Loving Hut

Started with the Saigon rolls with peanut sauce, which were excellent. I had the Walnut Cha Cha and my dining partner went with the Rolling Tango. Both dishes were very good — flavorful and fulfilling. We split a slice of the Mango Cake for dessert, which was very light.

Food comes out crazy fast. Ordered the gourmet fried rice, eggplant clay pot, and orange treasure. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ on the eggplant. So delicious! Gourmet fried rice was also yummy. Orange treasure was good, but probably not Merit Vegetarian levels of good. Service was friendly and efficient. The menu had a large variety of vegan pan-​Asian dishes to try. Loving Hut has so many locations, it’s definitely one of those staple chains for vegetarians and vegans alike.

Came here with a Groupon and had a very pleasant dinner with my parents. There’s quite an array of items. but if you’ve done veggie Chinese before, the assortment is about the same.
We got the bun hue thanks to some recommendations on Unilocal — this is a must! Spicy, warm, tasty, and not too oily or salty like most noodle soups.
The general tso’s chicken was pretty whatever. It was good, but I’ve definitely had better.
We also got mango and green tea vegan ice cream and it was super yummy! A nice ending to the meal because it was so light with the lack of actual heavy cream.
Overall, it was good and I’d 100% return, but I wouldn’t say this is mindblowing (also the complex is huge and crowded so kinda annoying). Unlike most cheap (albeit tasty) asian restaurant, this place had good service from young college aged kids, and a clean brightly lit ambiance. Entrees are about $ 12. With tax/​tip, our total came to about $ 55 pre-​Groupon.

Used a Groupon to treat a great friend to lunch — wanted to try something new. I am not Vegan but cannot rave enough about how delicious the food was that we ordered today. We started with the fried spring rolls — the dipping sauce and rolls were tasty and tantalizing. I had the green curry and my friend had the eggplant stir fry. The wait staff are super friendly, attentive and just plain wonderful. Our dishes were both visually appealing and so well seasoned. I loved every bite. This location has an awful parking situation — but it was all overcome by a fantastic meal. I will definitely return.

This is my first time at this location. I usually go to the Valley Fair/​Oakridge sites.
I ordered the pesto sandwich here and the meat substitute was SO hard. Felt like I was chewing on tanbark. I had to pull a some out of my sandwich because they were too hard to chew. I was basically eating a pesto, tomato and lettuce sandwich.

Waste of money. Very disappointing.

Everyone is so friendly when you walk in! I love the food, very tasty!!! I absolute love coming here or ordering food out to go! A must try!

This is place is awesome. Great food. I am a non vegetarian and this place can easily convince me to move to vegan good.

I love the Loving Hut and I have been to a couple of them, BUT this location has disappointed on so many levels.
I usually get the Rainbow Salad (which at any other location I can recommend to the fullest), but here I realized a couple of bothersome things:
1. this location’s Rainbow Salad is half the size of other location’s for the same price.
2. they use a different dressing than any other location, which is weird and confusing.
I haven’t tried any other dishes there, but I usually really like my Rainbow Salad, and judging by that I won’t be back.

Second time here, it’s just meh. I prefer then at Westfield’s Willow Glen Mall. I haven’t tried the one in Valley Fair but heard it’s better too. I usually get the Royal Spicy Noodle I believe? Before I got «beef» in it, but this time it was tofu and their patty. Not sure if they’re menu is different or they forgot to serve the meat. Overall it’s just okay.

Clean. Big variety of food. All Vegan. So yummy. VERY nice people. Reasonable price.

We have been going to this place several times. This is one of my favorite go-​to place when i’m hungry. They are very courteous and the food is very tasty.
I recommend to try all the following dishes:
Appetizers — Saigon rolls, Basil fries
Main course — Spicy cha-​cha, Gourmet fried rice, Guru fried rice, Tom yum
Curries — Szechuan eggplan, lucky curry, Crispy mushroom
Deserts — Walnut cha-​chat, Vegan Flan

Food’s cool, either hit or miss. Do not recommend the Kung pao. I like their pad Thai, but I find the lack of tofu so bizarre, as all pad Thai dishes come with tofu… Wouldn’t you expect a specialty vegan restaurant to include it?! I also recommend walnut cha cha and bun Bo hue.
Service sucks– tonight I counted three servers and seven tables, yet our waters were not refilled, we were checked on only after we finished everything only to be asked by the three servers if we wanted dessert (we said no; the piles of dirty dishes were left on our table; no one brought the check…).
I only come here for emergencies.

The décor is very nice! Went here with friends. All food is vegan and delicious! My friends and I were satisfied with what we ordered. I ordered the Singapore Curry and added the yams crescents. The yams looked and the texture was like shrimp. The noodles had amazing flavor that I was not expecting. Defintely a place I would go to again.

Very mixed feelings about this place. While they serve the best tasting vegan Pad Thai I have tried, the service was really appalling. It looked like the waiter was half asleep, walking through a waking dream, very absent-​minded, distracted. The desserts are really hit and miss. Their version of tiramisu has nothing to do with tiramisu (I am still not sure if the waiter brought us tiramisu or some other unspecified cake). The frosting on the cake was just gross, it consists of faux cream that just tastes unpleasant and has a weird sticky consistency.
If (and this is a very big if) I’ll give them another chance, I think I will probably stick to Pad Thai and takeout.

Very clean restaurant! My favorite dish is the Spicy Cha Cha and the Tom Kha soup is really yummy and creamy, though it can get too salty. The pesto sandwich was okay, but not something I would order again.

This is my first Vegan Restaurant ever!!! And I love it! I think if this is truly Vegan than we should all start eating at the Loving Hut daily. Super clean, super fast, super fresh, super delicious and I would almost say the best food in SJ! Really. I’m a foodie and a health nut so being in healthcare administration for the public at least try the Loving Hut once before saying no to Vegan. I’ve changed my mind totally and I’m from Austin TX. Where grilling steals is part of our weekly family time. Most homes are built with outdoor grills in my neighborhood. Because outside BBQ is part of life… now I just have to figure out how to grill Tofu?
I’ll take some advice but I can see it falling into the pit of fire. Come try the Loving Hut. It’s a dive but kinda hella cool. Lol. I’m trying to be Californian Cool. I am sure I am not with my southern accent but at least I am part of the 90% Asian population. Lol. Come and try it out… because I said so. Dr. Kathy

A very good friend of mine (who is also vegetarian) introduced me to Loving Hut. I had never been to an authentic vegan restaurant before, so I was really interested to see what kinds of food they had.
Loving Hut is located in a large plaza in Milpitas that has Fantasia, Quickly’s, Mayflower Restaurant, 99 Ranch, 85C Bakery, and a plethora of other eating establishments. It is actually one of the larger restaurants there with large white booths and white table sets. You can either sit in and dine or order take-​out at the cash register. A lot of young people work as the waiters while the older people work in the back.
Service swayed from good to bad. We weren’t properly greeted at the door nor were we seated until we finally flagged someone down. It took some time for a waiter to take our order and get us our waters as well. But once the food was served, service improved. I personally liked how easy it was to use a Groupon I had bought beforehand.
For the food, we ordered the rolling tango and bun hue. The rolling tango was made with protein strips in this sweet, spicy, and tangy sauce. The bun hue was a noodle dish with spicy broth and pieces of tofu, protein strips, and mushroom. We loved both of the dishes.
The noodles packed a good amount of heat and I couldn’t believe it was 100% vegan, even down to the broth. I have eaten bun bo hue many times before and even without the beef, the dish was vibrant in flavor. The dish was also a good size to share between two people. But the rolling tango was my personal favorite. The strips look like they would be soggy from all of the sauce, but they actually had a nice crunch. I couldn’t stop eating it. Thankfully, it was also a large portion so my friend was able to eat a lot too. The one thing I didn’t like was the broccoli on the plate that seemed to be more for decoration than for eating.
For dessert, we ordered two scoops of ice cream: chocolate and cherry chocolate chip. It didn’t hit me at first that this was vegan ice cream until my friend pointed it out. The chocolate flavor seemed to have a coconut base that surprisingly heightened the richness of the chocolate. As for the cherry chocolate chip, it was made with soy, but honestly, I couldn’t even tell. It tasted like real milk!
Overall, the prices at Loving Hut are very reasonable, and it’s for very delicious food nonetheless! I never thought vegan food could be so appetizing, but Loving Hut proved me wrong. While the service was so-​so, I’m quite sure I’ll be back for the food.

I really want to like this place, been there multiple times in the last few months, and EVERY time something was wrong. In general, the food is bland and uninspired, more specifically:
1) Ordered dish «without cilantro» because I’m one of those people for whom it tastes nasty and basically ruins a dish if included. When dish arrived, waitress asked «Are you allergic to cilantro?» Why?, because they forgot and had sprinkled cilantro all over it and then «removed it.» Well, you really can’t successfully remove all cilantro from a saucy dish, so I spent a good part of my meal picking it out or tasting its awfulness. Note to chef — if you screw up the order, start over again.
2) I ordered a sandwich that came with a salad, and according to menu if I wanted to «add fries» there’d be an additional $ 3 charge. Order came without salad, when I inquired they said what the menu meant was you could pay $ 3 to replace the salad with the fries and then made it seem like I had been in error. Sorry, but in English when you say «add» it means «add» not «substitute.»
3) Ordered takeout. They packed my slice of cake on top of the piping hot meal, so by the time I opened it, my cake was a melted mess.
4) Ordered «rainbow salad.» It turned out to be the most colorless salad I’ve ever had. How can you call a pile of shredded white cabbage with tan peanuts and tan tofu and a few strands of carrot and purple cabbage «rainbow?»
And these are only the examples I’ve managed to remember. Oh, and that their pad thai has no right to be called pad thai. No resemblance in taste whatsoever to the real thing.

I came back for the spicy cha cha and it was lacking the same texture as the other times. The yam cresent was a little mushy today.
I always try at least 1 new dish here. Lucky for me, I was very happy with the crystal palace entrée. It’s a steamed soft tofu dish with slices of shrimp (yam crescent), sweet peas and carrots in a light sauce. Normally I would eat this with rice but I’m watching my carb intake.
I would definitely get these dishes again.
Minus one star for the yam textures that day.

Loving Hut is a chain of Vegan pan-​Asian cusine restaurants.
I had the Saigon Rolls ($ 5.95, lettuce, rice noodle, yam crescents & herbs rolled in fresh rice paper
) The yam crescents are shaped and colored to look like shrimp (
). I wasn’t sure what to expect from the crescents, but these had more flavor than many shrimp summer rolls and I would never have guessed from the taste /​texture that it was yam.
For a main I got the Clay Pot Sensation ($ 12.95, Bean curd wrapped in seaweed, braised in a rich gravy, sprinkled with green onion and black pepper, served in a metal pot
) which is their take on a catfish claypot. There’s the fake-​fish and fried tofu in a tasty carmelized sauce. The pot is metal, but I guess Metal Pot Sensation doesn’t have the same ring.
The fake fish was. .. remarkable. The seaweed emulates the fish skin and the bean curd has a flakiness to it (
) There was even a «fatty» layer between the «skin» & the «flesh» (see strip at top of picture
)
I thought it was a little pricey, for what you get though making that fake-​fish does look labor intensive.
Service was so-​so, but I guess on-​par with many (most) Asian spots. .. I’m Asian, so I can say that ;-)
