Krav Maga Self Defense & Fitness in Milwaukie (SE Portland) is the place to be for practical, reality-based self defense and high intensity, functional fitness training. We have been teaching Krav Maga, the official hand to hand combat system of the Israeli Defense Forces and many Law Enforcement agencies in the U.S. and around the world, since 2003 in the greater Portland area. We have an experienced team of 14 patient and professional instructors, trained and certified by Krav Maga Worldwide, the first and largest Krav Maga association in the U.S.
We have been instrumental in the adoption in greater Portland of Krav Maga as the official defensive tactics system of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the Canby, Woodburn, and Gresham Police Departments, Portland TriMet Transit Police and the Oregon Dept. of Corrections. Krav Maga techniques were designed to work, for men and women, large or small, young or old. The tactics are proven to quickly eliminate threats and keep you out of harm’s way. The moves are simple to perform because they were designed to work powerfully with your body’s natural instincts. With Krav Maga you will become physically fit and gain the peace of mind that comes from not being afraid. Krav Maga saves lives!
Our students have fun working out in a cooperative, safe, often intense and always motivating environment. We welcome you to join us today!

Mark Blake began training in traditional shotokan karate in 1976 during college. His main interest was in self defense, but he also wanted to improve his physical fitness. He had been attacked several times as a teenager, once held up with a gun pushed into his throat. He didn’t want his good luck to run out and thought that learning a martial art might be a good idea to improve his chances for survival in the future, and not just depend on hope and luck. Mark’s love for karate lead him to teach it as a full time occupation for almost 20 years. He competed in and won in many tournaments, but when he retired from competition at age 45, he began to question why he spent so much time practicing and teaching a martial art that wasn’t very practical for self defense. Although karate had provided excellent striking and kicking skills, he realized he was still quite helpless in a groundfight or against attacks with guns or knives. When he first saw Krav Maga, he knew what he needed to do…
