Al’s Hubcaps & Wheel Repair

I’ve been to Al’s for rim repair and I’m actually going back today for my Chrysler 300S. I was very happy with the previous job he did for me and will continue to come back. Guy runs a busy place and has a professional attitude.

I don’t even want to give this location a star. I’m not sure how this guy is in business. He is very rude and sarcastic could careless about customer service. He has a sign that says «what do you have in common with a subway groper… do not touch» Horrible. I would not go back there nor would I recommend anyone to go there! Good luck!

Horrible place, im sure he’s still open for business because majority of the people in long island and particularly in the area of his shop dont know any better. Very bad work quality but he will sit there and tell you how he has this machine and that machine. He does alot of blend jobs NO REFINISHING. Also very rude and disrespectful, like I said if your reading this save yourself the trip and dont go there. Al you are full of yourself.

I got recommended here by Don from Speedwipe Detailing. Thanx to Don I got my wheels powder coated and rotars and calipers painted here at AL’s. Truly a honest and straight forward guy. AL knowledge is out of the world, he is definitely a pro at what he does. Plus to top it off he put Black Mercedes hubs caps on the wheels on the house. I Definitely recommend him for all your needs.

Good service. Brusque but efficient. I’ll go back again. Blew my tire on the Long Island distressway. Pulled in at 830 am. Diagnosed the problem. Needed a new tire and he found it. Took my wheel off, put on the the donut spare, told me to come back after the tire arrives, and sent me on my way. When I came back the wheel and new tire was ready to go back on the car. Very happy. Go here if you want it done right.

I read some of the reviews here and was hesitant about going to Al’s but I heard he is very good at fixing wheels so I took a chance. Al could not have been nicer or more helpful. He looked at my wheel and took the time to explain exactly whet needed to be done to repair it. It was actually one of the best experiences I have had when it comes to car repair. I will be a customer for as long as I drive on these horrible NY roads.

I love Al. He has unparallelled knowlege in his field, and he is honest as the day is long. He doesn’t waste money on frills. His shop is all-​business, and he tells you what he thinks without varnish. What he thinks, like, «I’m not going to fix that wheel because it would be unsafe,» may be something one doesn’t want to hear, but in his place, that’s that. And I like it that way. He is totally-​committed to doing things right, and safely, which I have seen in the more than five years and dozens of wheels I have brought to him.
I like the description of the environment in the front of his shop as «like a barbershop». Nailed it. People come, they get worked on, they leave. In the meantime, they talk about cars and wheels and whatever else they feel like talking to Al about. This is a very, very smart man and a talented, supremely-​competent businessperson who for me is fun to talk with. He takes his work and his business seriously, and for this I have a huge amount of respect.
I wouldn’t buy or refurnish a wheel anywhere else, because you will never get better work or a fairer price than at Al’s. I have to assume that the negative reviews are competitors, trolls or people who think they know better and don’t like to be told that they don’t.

I rarely write a review, Al didn’t ask me to write one either (honestly, i dont think he cares). Long story short, he’s straight forward and somewhat blunt, but he gets the job done, and well… The end.

Over a year ago I paid Al to do work on my rims for my Ford Crown Vic. I failed to keep my appointment. Fast forward to April of this year & I again scheduled an appointment with Al’s Hubcaps and Wheels. Without hesitation Al took in my car & immediately went to work: All four wheels were professionally sanded down cleaned & painted w/​4 ‘new’ OEM center caps installed, the chrome valve stems were a very nice unexpected touch! To cut to the chase the rims, center caps look really amazing! It brought this old Crown Vic. to life!

I knew this place was good ever since Mavis Tires sent them my wheel to repair after they damaged it. Recently had Al’s Hubcaps install four new tires shipped directly from Tire Rack. He also mended the inner dents on all four of my 19″ wheels. They used Hunter Road Force balancing to make sure my luxury sport sedan was in best performance. They even did my alignment for about 30% the cost of the dealer. All in all, great work from these guys at a fair price. Not to mention, they finished my car in one work day during a busy tire repair season (just make an appointment)!

Do yourself a HUGE favor and don’t come here. The first time i went i was over charged and i actually got my rim back more damaged than when i braught it in. When i asked about it they just made excuses. It looked burnt and as if it was hammered. I used to work in a repair shop so i know what a repaired rim should look like. The second time was a mistake. A tire shop across the street sent my rim there after i had asked them not to because of the experience i had before. Well that being said i now have to send both of those rims out to wheelfixit because i dont feel safe the way my car drives with these rims and the damage Als has done.

Went to Al’s with two tires busted from pot holes. Tire Rack had sent me the new tires but I needed them mounted, balanced, and my rim repaired. it was late in the day and it’s pot hole season in NYC so they were jammed. They worked me into the schedule and got it all done. Al runs the front desk and is a bit eccentric, but then this is NYC, so everyone is a bit different. Al laid out my options and recommended what was the safest solution. Which was not the most expensive, so I appreciated the options.
The waiting room is basically chairs in the store/​office. If you don’t like the smell of grease and rubber, you might want to want a couple of stores down the street to Panera Bread and wait there. My though was that I’m paying them for wheel and tire expertise, not interior decorating. If you have to have a posh waiting room and more robotic service, go elsewhere. But I wouldn’t count on getting as personal service.
The price I was quoted is the price I got. Not much more to say about that.
Their equipment is top notch for mounting and balancing. Most big box tire stores don’t touch fixing rims. So their technical expertise combined with their equipment make then fairly unique in this area.
So if you have a tire or wheel problem and need a solution, these are your guys. If you need emotional validation or a spa treatment, you may want to look elsewhere. These guys fix tires and rims and they are good at it!

Stay away from this place, They are very unprofessional. They quoted me one price than… when I went to pick up my car they said it was a higher price. Shame on them for trying to take advantage of a woman. They are a RIP OFF…

Would never recommend this place. Had my boyfriend take my hre rim with my tire. They fixed the rim and tossed the perfectly new tire, and took no responsibility for it. The guy behind the desk was very rude and arrogant claims the sign states they discard after 14days. Now I’m out of a new 300 $ tire and still responsible for the repair. Horrible buisness if it was worth taking it to court I would

VW dealer said my GTI rim was bent. I went to Al’s and they found that to be untrue! All I needed was some weight on my wheel

I’ve been going to Al’s since 2006 and he’s handled my wheels for my BMW. He does a great job, he does need to keep tabs on his workers. Otherwise, he’s upfront and honest. Gets the job done.

Customer service is horrible. Came in just to pick up hub rings for my car during my lunch break. Took over an hour for them to finally tell me they didnt have what I needed in stock. I saw my wheel just sitting in front of Al for 40 minutes before he decided to take a look and tell me he didnt have it. Complete waste of time.

I am writing this review after 2 weeks as i was observing the tire performance. My allow rim had a crack and its a run flat tire. Did lot of research online in NY and LI area to fix it. read mixed review on various forums about Al’s Hubcaps & Wheel Repair. so Took a risk and went there. the guy who actually worked his name was Jason. he was very patient and helpful explained how he will do it and approximate cost. But the final decision was done by the guy in the front who i think is the owner. he seems eccentric but technical sound.
Got following done
welding of crack rim– done
rim was bent — fixed
wheel balanced– done
took them 1:30hrs to finish
I would say the rates are comparable to other wheel repair shops
So great work so far and there is panera nearby 2 min walk so I enjoyed nice breakfast

I went to Al’s Hubcaps after a recommendation from another tire shop. I had called in for a quote to have 4 tires (sidewall 45, 17″ diameter) mounted and balanced, and was informed it would be $ 24 /​tire. Tire disposal was $ 2.00 each. It was slightly more expensive than other tire shops, but they used some of the best mounting (Hunter Auto34 & TC3500 State-​of-​the-​Art Runflat capable) and balancing (Hunter GSP9700 State-​of-​the-​Art Roadforce Balancers) equipment on the market. Most others did not so I decided to check out Al’s.
When you enter, it’s a small room. One wall is stacked with hubcaps, another with shelves of lug nuts, and another with wheel locks. There are also two vending machines, and a TV. Al was sitting behind the counter, with his long rock-​star style wavy hair. The phone was attached to the collar of his sweatshirt along with wired headset. When I mentioned I had called in about changing my tires, he immediately got up and told me to meet him outside. There’s a small parking lot beside the building with 4 spaces where they do the work right there. He brought one of his staff, Jason, a large black dude, and told him that I needed my tires replaced. Jason immediately got to work, taking my tires out of my trunk and brought out two industrial floor jacks. I hanged around since I had no where else to go, and found that he was a really nice guy and easy to talk with. While he was changing my tires, he let Al know that one of my rims was dented and it would cost $ 55.00. I told Al to have it fixed too, which George, the shorter mechanic repaired fairly quick.
It took about an hour and twenty minutes to mount & balance 4 tires, and have my rim repaired. Al cut me a deal, and it cost me only $ 123.00. An awesome deal that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a shop to address their tire and rim needs. With top of the line equipment, and a great staff, I will definitely return for any other future work that I need.
