Alexander’s Import Auto Repair

I’ve been going to this repair shop, almost exclusively, since the 1980s — three different imports during that time (it has changed ownership during that time, I believe). They aren’t the cheapest place, but I do trust them. They always call to let me know what the problem is and to discuss costs and options before completing the work. They also have let me know when it was most cost effective to let an old car go, rather than continuing to try to keep it going. They have loaner cars, so I can drop off my vehicle and easily get to work. Always good work. They also change over my winter to summer tires and store the out of season tires — at a reasonable rate. Can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Please! do yourself a favor do NOT go here! I live down the street and because of the convenience of that I’ll go but I ALWAYS regret it. These guys are total robbers. Horribly expensive! a complete rip off. Recently, just to have them tell me what was wrong with it they Charged me $ 55 and when i put up a protest they pretty much told me they wouldnt give my car back, not okay. they told me the job (broken taillights) would cost me over $ 500 I went down the street and got it done for $ 120. Just dont go here. There are way to many places down the street and on Lake street that will do thejob and not try to steal every last dime you have. These guys are really dishonest and andare totally not worth it.

I called ~12 mechanics in the area before taking my Volvo to Alexander’s; hands-​down the most knowledgeable and helpful service I could find. Two places I called recommended them to me. Their shop is clean and organized; a top-​notch operation with top-​notch customer service. The price was more than fair and I was able to talk with the mechanic at length about what he found. In the waiting room there is a huge window that allows you to see your car as it’s being worked on. If I didn’t live in Texas I would come here every time.

Can they fix everything? Yes.
Will it cost you either an arm, leg or ear? Also yes.
If you have an emergency, yes, this place is an option.
If not, go elsewhere.
My wife went here, crazy overpriced estimate on her old carolla.
Friend got an estimate on his subaru outback. They have no idea how that engine works, estimate was over $ 6,000.
Needless to say, neither of us went there.
Now, perhaps someone who fixes their own cars and has a serious issue could go here when there’s something out of their reach but even then, there are other options.
Thank god I have a VW and never need to go there. (South Central Imports down the street only handles VW and Audis.)
There’s a reason they advertise so heavily. They have to because repeat business doesn’t happen as far as I’m concerned.

Car Accident… closest repair shop is Alexander’s. Hurrah! Lovely people, prompt service, pricey but oh well. Plus they send you helpful postcards FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE with service reminders. It worked! I kept going. And the second or third appointment after my accident I noticed my car was pulling to one side. A friend suggested I get the tires rotated. The next time I go to Alexander’s and ask them about a tire rotation, they say sure no problem. Fantastic! I’m in control of my life! I’m solving problems.
Tires rotated, car still pulls, I tell them. They say, well rotating the tires wouldn’t have solved that problem. Your tires didn’t really need rotating.
They didn’t? Why didn’t they tell me that? «The customer is always right,» the guy smirks; «You asked us to do it so we did it.» Hey, never again, guys, thanks.

These people are really reasonably priced. I used to go to Sandbergs on Minnehaha and have switched to Alexander’s because of their good service. They actually send you emails and phone calls just to see how everything is working out like a month after you have work done. I recommend them highly.

If you have an imported automobile in need of service, do it and yourself a favor and take it here. These guys are the best– honest, knowledgeable, all that junk you want from a repair shop. They are friendly, too, and don’t make you feel like an idiot for not knowing everything about cars. You know, if that would apply to you. It doesn’t to me. So I’m just basing it on conjecture at this point.

Edit. I have to adjust my opinion (and remove two stars) after a bad experience. I got an estimate from Alexander’s that was ten times (!!!) what I eventually paid for the repair. I won’t return.
