My first time here and first impressions are everything. I ordered the Garlic Chicken. I got it «hot» for the spice level and it was perfect and it came to my table steaming hot and fresh. I also ordered egg rolls which were typical. Overall great food and fast service. I would recommend this place, especially if you need a quick to go order. Now across the street to Buster’s for a washdown.

I like Bill’s a lot. It’s a solid neighborhood stand-by. No frills, but the egg drop soup and wantons are a perfect 1 – 2 combo — karateCHOP!

I usually stop there for the shrimp fried rice and the chicken. It is worth the trip. The rice comes in two sizes the small/regular is enough for a meal all by itself. The Large is enough to serve three or four sides. I used to just drive past it until one day a friend got a small rice that smelled so delicious. He wouldn’t share but offered to buy the others some. Yes He would rather pay than allow us to touch his rice.

I’ve tried a variety of items on the menu. Kung pao shrimp, sesame chicken, egg rolls, wontons, LOVE the chicken wings, there’s nothing like it! The beef fried rice is amazing, and they pack your takeout box. Quality AND quanity ! :-) Pineapple fried rice +shrimp & cashews is one of my faves. Best chinese place yet.

It was our first time here and from reading the reviews I knew the service could be spotty, but I had no idea the wait for food would be sooo long. We ordered house lo mein, shrimp fried rice, Szechuan beef and a combo– chicken chow mein and egg roll. The lo mein and fried rice came out after a 45 min wait, the Szechuan beef 10 minutes later followed by the combo 10 minutes after that. Yes, you added right; an hour and 5 minutes to get our food. Their saving grace is the food was delicious. After a few bites my hulk rage dissipated, luckily. We will go there again, but it will be takeout!

Small place, but great food! Their fried rice is one of the best in the twin cities! Also their sweet and sour pork is to die for! I’ve moved to Saint Paul for 7 years now but whenever I am in Mpls, I always stop by. They are never greedy with the amount they would put on your plate or in your to go box.

I’ve always been curious about Bill’s Garden because it looks so «not-Asian» from the outside. I swear I drove by it 100 times before I realized it was a Chinese restaurant. I can’t order Chinese food without getting an order cream cheese wontons. It’s a requirement. Theirs are good, a little small but you get 10 in an order, I’ll definitely continue my tradition of ordering them every time. There’s nothing fancy about them, but that’s what I like. Just give me a good fried ball of cream cheese and I’m happy. I ordered the sweet and sour pork for my main course and I was quite pleased with it. The pork was not too tough which is something I tend to run into a lot. It was pretty tender. The s&s sauce was good too, not too sweet like a lot of places tend to go. You could smell the bell pepper in there. I just wish they had been a little more generous with the sauce. Others in my party got house special egg foo young, which was really good, super thick patties, and the lemon chicken, which I’m sure I would have liked if I liked lemon, which I don’t. But the person who ordered it was pleased but also would have liked a bit more sauce. The house special egg foo young was good and kind of made me regret not getting some of the house special fried rice, but we already had too much food. At least I know it will be good for next time. Portion sizes were very generous and I think overall everything was a great deal. I had ordered a combination that came with chow mein. Chow mein confuses me. What they call chow mein seems to vary wildly based on where you are ordering it. Some places it seems more like what I would call lo mein. Here it was… this. Reminded me of the LaChoy stuff you’d get in the can at the grocery store. But whatever that was it doesn’t taint an otherwise great Chinese experience. Bill’s is now in my top 5 Chinese restaurants. I will be back.

Was introduced to Bills Garden while attending Roosevelt High School, and still is one of my favorite Chinese Food places to date.(Which is a BIG deal, cause I LOVE Chinese food). Family owned/ran– Bill is the sweetest. Very affordable prices– even steady pricing! Writing this review made me crave it. If you haven’t had it, you have to go. Don’t let the humble entry/storefront fool you, the food is AMAZING!

Bummer of an experience. Really wanted to like this place. Garlic chicken sauced through bag and all over everything else. Very little chicken. Cream cheese wonton with no cream cheese and bad wontons. Took a lot longer than told over the phone for pickup. Great Wok better and they deliver.

Ordered takeout Kung Pow Chicken, Orange Chicken and Sesame Chicken. All delicious especially the Kung Pow. The portions are HUGE next time splitting one order between two people. The staff is SUPER friendly and I will be going back after seeing the menu.

When I crave for my Americanized Chinese fried rice and cream cheese wontons, this is the place to go! The price is very reasonable with huge portion size. The deep fried items like Chicken wings and cream cheese wontons were so good. The food is always made fresh. I tried to avoid the long wait times by going in early after work to pick up my dinner. The customer service was always friendly and put a smile on your face after a long day at work. The restaurant has also been updated since the last time I went back to Minnesota.

If you’re looking for better quality food than Hop Wong, Ming’s, Crystal Palace, China Wok or the Teppanyaki Grill, well, keep looking. Despite the brief and pleasant customer service interaction I had picking up my take-out, there was nothing to distinguish the hostess-recommended«sesame chicken» from any other reddish syrup-soaked, grease-dripping chicken and white rice combination from countless other Sysco-based Asian cuisines. Not even a sprinkle of sesame seed. Nor did the appetizer sampler with wontons, pork, chicken wings and an eggroll show any evidence of love or art in Bill’s food. Be forewarned: Use of «Garden,» «Chinese,» and«Gourmet» are false advertising. I wonder if there’s even a «Bill.»

It’s not a posh place with fancy lights and table cloth dining but it does have amazing food and friendly service. I’ve been going to Bill’s for, well, I want to say at least 20 years. I’m a creature of habit and usually order the lunch combo of chicken chow mien with fried rice and chicken wings. I’ll eat it all and be way too full with their big servings. Sometimes I don’t feel I’m paying enough for such great food. They really are affordable. Bill’s will always be my favorite hole in the wall Chinese restaurant… always.

Tried the place for the first time. Told the lady who works there that it was our first time there and she didn’t even ask us if we wanted to dine in. She showed us the menu and we ordered thinking that was what we had to do before we dine in but that wasn’t the case. Ordered 2 lunch combos. Overall, the food was OK. Chicken wings and lemon chicken have a hint of mini donut flavor; a bit sweet. Not too fond of that. Service was OK. Probably won’t go back.

Oh, Bills. How I want to like you. I’ve been here a handful of times, and each time leave disappointed. I live down the street from the place, yet find myself driving to other places when I have a hankering for Chinese food. Service: Slow. If they say 15 minutes, they really mean 30 min. Atmosphere: I’ve only seen a handful of people eating inside in the 8 months I’ve lived nearby. It’s truly a take out place. Food: Try the fried rice. It’s actually pretty good. Everything else? Not so much. The sesame chicken sauce tasted like ketchup. The meat was overcooked and didn’t seem fresh. Overall, not good. But not horrible. Service and atmosphere make the overall rating a 2. Sorry, Bill. I won’t be back. Even though you’re down the street.

I have been coming to Bill’s Garden for years. I have always gotten the sesame chicken lunch special. It comes with chicken fried rice and cream cheese wontons. This is my favorite chinese restaurant. It’s not fancy or pretentious, it’s just good food for a reasonable price. The best part is that the chicken is white meat and large pieces, it’s not that typical small chunks of dark mystery meat that most chinese places serve. Bill sometimes can be crabby and take a while to get your food ready, so make sure to call in your order 15 – 20 minutes ahead of time if you’re in a rush.

All of the other reviews are pretty spot on with their observations and opinions. I completely agree. The interior leaves much to be desired, but if the food is good who cares? In my experience, most of the hole in the walls have the best food. Chairs in the waiting area are beat up and torn. Décor is non existent, but it was still pretty full with regulars. Ordered the house special fried rice; beef, chicken and shrimp. Very good. Not greasy at all and rice is light and fluffy. I appreciate not getting a big box of grease like other places and it was filled to the brim and then some. Huge portion. Egg rolls almost seemed like they were baked. Not greasy at all either. Crunchy and well stuffed. Will certainly return. I wish I could have taken a menu, but they were out. Service was good and staff was polite.
