Five Star Beach Properties was started in 2008. There was a need in the market for a boutique rental management firm that catered to high end vacation rentals in Destin, Florida. Five Star Beach Properties provides travelers the ability to choose from only the finest vacation rentals on the market.

Josh McLean began working in the real estate market in Destin, Florida in 2005. Previously he was head of a large manufacturing company based in central Mexico. The hands on experience in management and marketing has helped Five Star Beach Properties grow very quickly since 2008.

My experience with Five Star and Bliss beach rentals was NOT blissful or five star quality. Our yearly vacation is something we all look forward to, and spend a good bit of money making sure that we have a relaxing and great time. One week before our arrival date, they called to let me know that the unit that we had paid for in full 6 months in advance had sold and we were not allowed to rent that unit for our vacation. My husband and I have 6 kids, so their solution was to rent us 2 smaller units at another location. The purpose of a family vacation is that we go together — not stay in separate rooms. Not only was I treated like this was my fault, but they were not willing to help me find anything else suitable for our stay. I do not work in real estate, but I do know they HAD to know more than one week before our arrival date that the unit was going to sell.
I scrambled, but I was able to find something else for us to stay in, but it wasn’t ocean front or even ocean view, but the new people were very nice and very shocked that had happened to us. This is obviously something that doesn’t happen all the time, like 5 star tried to convince me that it was.
Not only did they treat me like this was my fault, but every time I asked to speak with the manager, he was either «not there», «handling another problem and he’d call me right back» (which he never did), or he was «in a meeting».
I will NEVER rent from them again, and if you are reading this, I would advise you to not either.

Five Star set up me and my family– 15 in all at Kate’s Porch last week. The whole experience was over the top! The home was gorgeous, clean, well maintained. Any little phone call with a question about anything and maintenance buzzed over to take care of us, even when we just needed help lighting the grill. Our access to the beach, our own little shower to rinse off body or feet, pool right out on the porch, beautiful view, plenty of TVs, nice laundry facilities. We also used the concierge services and their recs were super. We were totally spoiled, it was hard to leave. I believe if we come back we’ll just stay in the same place. Fabulous!

We rented a Seacrest home, Hakuna Matata, paying nearly $ 20,000 for last week’s stay, but had several issues:
1) It took 3 days to get a remote so the the DVD player could be used
2) There was insufficient propane for the grill. We barely got enough for 1 meal.
3) My bedside table was in pieces in the closet, so no light on my side of the bed.
4) The beach set up they arranged for us never came.
5) The gas fire pit was disconnected by the owner (not 5 Star’s fault but disappointing.)
6) The door to our bedroom stuck so badly that I had to leave through the patio door and ring the front door bell to get in one morning.
7) They instructed us to take out all our own garbage before we left or risk being fined.
All in all, we expected more for such a big investment in a vacation home.

Wow What a mess. Five star lost the appreciation for people that work hard and save for a small vacation. We were shuffled from house to house do to gas leaks, broken and out dated smoke alarms, broken steps to the beach, smashed tiles around so called pool. Even there pool guy leaves a half bag of shock open next to the pool for kids to get in to. You and your family are at serious risk if you rent from these people. The furniture was so filthy we had to lay towels on them and wash them every day in order to sit. Keep the lights on at night in the kitchen otherwise the bugs will take over. Bring your own filters for HVAC units because they will be filthy. Bring some tools to make minor repairs so your family is some what safe. I spoke with the maintenance man, he said they have over 100 large properties, there is no way they can maintain and clean all these properties between 10 and 4 on a Saturday. 5 star had the cleaning lady come to our property on her day off to try and help clean, she is so over worked and says the same thing, entirely to many properties. I called the office gave the lady the address and name of the property, she said hold on we have so many properties I have to try and find that one. How the state of Florida allows these people to operate Ill never Know. Ive done my duty by reporting this, if you rent from five star its on you.

I had the best experience working with Five Star Beach Properties. I had to book a condo for 6 people pretty last minute. They went out of their way to find us an amazing beach front property for a very fair price. They place was cozy, clean, and in a wonderful area. We were able to walk to most places we wanted to go. I’ll definitely be working with Five Star again and highly recommend them!

Our family and extended family stayed in a lovely property at Destiny by the Sea. We were in a spectacular beachfront three level home. The home itself was in beautiful condition and accommodated the 13 of us in style. Beds were cozy, living and dining areas were spacious, and views were amazing. We had very easy beach front access from the first floor. The third floor beach side bedroom was particularly spectacular with a reading alcove facing the sea and an outdoor patio. Our main complaint was that this management company is cheap as all get out and was not responsive to our needs in the least. Compared to other properties at which we’ve stayed the service on the unit was deplorable, especially given the amount of money we paid for a week rental. The rental company did not provide enough towels, enough toilet paper, no paper towels, no salt/​sugar/​pepper or a single basic item that a rental home should have. We also had a broken grill that the management company failed to come and fix despite a request. Midweek clean up or fresh towels were not provided at all. Concierge was just not helpful in the least.

My husband and I stayed in the «Utopia» condo @ Silver Shells Beach Resort in Destin booked thru Five Star Properties. It was absolutely amazing!!:) for our 20th year Anniversery. Tiffany met us and there and walked us thru (so nice!) I give Five Star 5 stars because of their professional attention to every thing concerning our Anniversery (thanks guys you have made this the best Anniversery ever, we will def be back)

This was our first experience with Five Star Beach properties. We had previously used a competitor the prior year — Ocean Reef Resorts.
We stayed in the Sol Mate property and it was a wonderful experience. The elevator working was especially helpful for the disabled senior in our travel party. The last property we stayed out with Ocean Reef did not allow the elevators to operate.
The master bedroom was very comfortable with plenty of closets, and the mattress very comfortable.
The kitchen was stocked with a welcome gift (another touch not done by the other firm). There was some disrepair with the home, ant problems, lights not working, a toilet/​sink not working as soon as we checked in. The property responded quickly to these problems and were very positive and helpful throughout. taking care to attend to us and check on the home and any needs we might have.
This property did not provide chair/umbrella’s at no charge like Ocean Reef, nor did it provide free movie rentals from a local store. another plus for Ocean Reef and a negative for Five Star.
We would definitely stay at this home again and use Five Star Beach properties. I would like them to make sure their homes are better kept/​cleaned in advance and that is why they get 4 starts and not 5. I would also like them to include more free perks for their guests. There are a lot of places competing for beach front rentals and free perks go a long way.
Overall Five Star Beach was cleaner and more comfortable and would use again for sure.

First time in one of their properties and we were disappointed to say the least. The property was very tired. The fridge had food stuck to the inside walls, one of the two deck chairs had the bottom ripped out, the stove had food crumbs left on it, kids killed roaches in their rooms, no sheets for the hide-​a-​bed, had to reboot the wireless router many many times, stains on the carpet, etc.
Spending $ 15K for the week, I had higher expectations.

This was our second experience at a Destiny-​By-​The-​Sea property in Destin, FL. Our extended family chose to stay in the same 2nd-​tier beach home as we had done last year. While the views remain spectacular and the property help friendly we were quite shocked at the deteriorated condition of the home… stained and ripped stair carpeting, recessed lights in master bath hanging out from the ceiling, at least 11 lights out in the home the day we checked in, a ripped-​out cold-​water faucet in the master bath which made the sink unusable, the air conditioning didn’t work, and ripped wall paper in the lower level bath. The only thing addressed after our complaints was the air conditioning was fixed and the lightbulbs replaced (but the one ‘can’ light fixture still hung from the ceiling). We would probably rate this as a 2 ½ stars rather than a 3.
