Excellent. Service was great. Prices were reasonable. Portions were large. Everything we ordered was delicious. This is one of my new favorite restaurants

Finally had the chance to go to Mishmish. Liked it. Husband felt it was a woman’s place, since most of diners on a Wednesday were women. And maybe all those great healthy options. We enjoyed hummus, fried cauliflower, grilled octopus, fish tacos. Plenty of food. Wished fish on tacos had been broiled, not fried. Pretty good. Hummus truly nice. Lovely service. Nice meal for under $ 50. Will we return? Liked it a lot but not sure.

This unassuming place is a hidden gem of Montclair because of it’s location and it’s name as a café. Chef Meny is a master at his art(as proven by his win on the tv show Chopped) and watching him cook at the counter is poetry in motion. It’s BYOB, so if you like to drink, bring a bottle and get ready to have your tastebuds rejoice in joy. If you don’t drink, as for their sage, honey, and lemon iced tea. Completely refreshing, and absolutely delicious. Literally every dish is worth trying, and since it’s all small plates designed for sharing, you really can’t go wrong. For breakfast/brunch, the shakshuka with lamb meatballs is a must. It’s hearty, satisfying, and delicious. If you’re coming in for lunch, the Brie Cheese Sandwich is absolutely delicious. I recommend pairing it with the Local Vineland Beets appetizer. The earthy flavor of the beets is complimented by the brie cheese and mish mish jam. For dinner, I recommend the three course appetizer of Cauliflower, Eggplant Dip, and Hummus to start and followed by the Domestic Lamb Burger for an entrée but save room for dessert. The malabi(milk pudding) is an incredible combination of flavors topped with the berry filling, pistachios, and Israeli halva. Once you try it, you’ll understand when I say you’ll be back to try everything else.

Love their food. Mostly organic and the service is great. If you haven’t been to Mish Mish, what are you waiting for? Fried cauliflower and the Cowshuka are my all time favorite.

This place is great! Hidden on a side road in Montclair’s busy section lies a delicious Israel restaurant. The name is deceiving because it’s more than a coffee café. My boyfriend and I started with the hummus and octopus. The hummus was tasty. The octopus was pretty amazing. I’m not an octopus fan, but really enjoyed this one. I ordered the steak shawarma plate which was sliced steak over purée. It was really delicious!

I love this place… Their food is always consistently delicious, fresh and bursting with flavor. My husband loves their lamb burger and meatballs. Give me some fresh hummus, shishito peppers, and an iced honey mint tea and I’m one happy gal. Lots of loyal local followers. The staff is fantastic and friendly. Like most of my favorite places, I rather keep this place a secret but I also want them around for a very long time!

Nice little Mediterranean spot near the center of Montclair. Decent amount of tables but a reservation is ideal for the weekends. The menu isn’t huge, but everything we had was really fresh and tasted great. The trio of dips we had were superb and I really enjoyed the hummus and yogurt dips. For dinner I got the salmon special and it was cooked well and was flavorful and flaky. It’s a BYOB(liquor store a few doors away) and price points are about average for a Montclair restaurant. Parking can be a pain on a busy evening but I would certainly return.

The food was wonderful! We will definitely be going back. It is a little noisy and it has an open kitchen but if you are fine with that I would highly recommend going here!

Heard about this place from my Dentist who said it was one of the best new restaurants he ate at. Waited a few months and heard some more people talking about it. Finally a friend of mine who is a professionally trained chef posted a list of 20 places you should try in NJ and Mishmish was I think #7 on list. Went for the first time for my birthday dinner. Everything was fresh and delicious. I would definitely go back and hopefully very soon!

Went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night with my family. We go there around 6 and was able to take advantage of the pre-fixe option which was amazing. My husband and I spilt everything. My daughter loved the pickles and focaccia. We started with the dip trip(it is a must have) and tacos. My husband got the sea bass special and I ordered the Amish chicken. I had to bring my dinner home because I was already full from the other food. My husband had the dark chocolate pudding for dessert and almost licked the bowl. Service got a little slow towards the end of the meal since it got much more crowded due to the live music. Overall we enjoyed and will love to try again.

Great Israeli food with a twist, beautifully presented. Super friendly staff, from the chef to the waiters. If reservations are not available, attempt a walk-in and sit at the counter and enjoy the view of the open kitchen and a friendly chat with chef Roberto.

An amazing find just a few steps from Montclair’s main streets. It’s BYOB And there are two liquor stores a block away. Food was amazing and the service was even better. We spoke to the very friendly Chef Roberto and complemented him on their tasty and well presented Israeli dishes. Makes sure you order the fried cauliflower and pair up the lamb meatball shakshuka with the charred shishito peppers. They don’t have the shrimp shakshuka or the kanafe in the menu anymore but Roberto said to call in advance next time and he’d make the kanafe for us. Thank you all

This is an updated review since I only came for brunch before. I finally tried their dinner and was glad I did! My boyfriend and I went for Valentine’s Day and they had a special menu for the day for $ 62 each so we decided to order off the regular menu. We started with crispy cauliflower and tahini sauce which was very good although could be more spicy. They also gave us a bread platter with some pickled veggies which was really nice. For entrees we had the oxtail ragout which was a winner and grandmas Moroccan fish, also very delicious. The service was very attentive and and the presentation of the food was also nice. When we got the check they even gave us some macarons!

It has been years since I’ve enjoyed Israeli food. Lebanese, Turkish, Afghan, all are similar but none the same. What great fortune for my girlfriend to bring me here on Valentines Day. The food, unquestionably, five stars. We tried the Merguez sausage and smoked eggplant for appetizers. Both were superb, but the eggplant was transcendent. You will not have a better baba ghanoush or similar anywhere else. Must eat. The sausage came in a delicious sunchoke purée, literally the same day I was trying to explain to my girlfriend what sunchokes are. The table bread is chewy and fluffy yet dry, and dips well into the olive oil so pure it stings the tongue. The eggplant comes with fresh baked pita. Pro tip: ask for feta on the side and make extraordinary cheese pockets. For the meal, we both got the lamb meatballs. It looked to be a popular dish despite being the cheapest on the menu. It was rather salty to my taste but we each devoured every bite. Impressed, I had the special halavi dessert. It’s a shame this isn’t a regular offering. With a vanilla crème base, topped with fresh blackberry sauce, pistachios, and halva, it is a rare delight. In my book, the food will justify many return trips regardless of other factors, but my review must account for them. The atmosphere ought to be classier given the menu, prices, and location. We only got three utensils the entire meal. At least there were cloth napkins. Service was attentive but with the tables spaced so tightly to pack everyone in, our personal space was invaded numerous times to take orders, deliver food, and refill water. You can’t make a small space bigger without paying for it, but it’s needed here. And with food like this, they should soon be able to afford it.

I’d never been here before and came in to get dinner to go. The place is really cute, well designed and inviting. Each of the staff with whom I interacted was warm, friendly and helpful. Patricia spent the most time with me, sharing in wonderful detail the evening’s specials and letting me know what were some of the signature dishes. I opted for the octopus and the lamb meatball shakshuka. Waiting at the bar while my order was prepared was thrilling because I was able to watch my food being prepared in the open kitchen. The chefs were fun to watch and took great care in making my to go meal look just as good as if it was plated for me to dine there. Everything tasted delicious. Bold flavors and well seasoned. I will absolutely be back.

Came here to catch up with some of my friends for brunch. We’ve never heard of this place before but we were feeling adventurous. I’m so glad we did! The area is pretty cool and it’s close to some good places to walk to. The food was delicious and the staff is friendly. What more can you really ask for? I got the lamb burger and it was pretty flavorful. The fries were good too. The only real weird thing about the place was that they share bathrooms with some other places in the building. The wait was a little annoying so it was just inconvenient in my opinion. If you ever get a chance to come here, though I’d recommend it highly.

Definitely more low key(and better) than some of the neighboring brunch spots namely Raymonds. The menu is small and changing but offers a very sating and savory one. One perk is the byob which seems somewhat common in the area but as far as I know not brunch spots. The iced coffee and latte were good — I could taste the mocha in my iced coffee and the latte is made with so milk so it requires little or no sugar. I had the egg sandwich which is sizeable and has tomato, chive, scrambled eggs and aioli dip on it to spread on the sandwich. The aioli is very good and the actual sandwich hit all the marks. There is also a garden salad on the side. I had a taste of the shakshuka was also very nice and I normally don’t care for poached egg. The portions are also quite nice too. Service wasn’t bad either, glasses were kept full and the waitstaff were friendly. Very good tasting food and service. If meditteranean is your thing, this is good food.

Marvelous Modern Mediterranean Meals! Located right off of Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair, Mishmish is completely unassuming; that is until you try the food. The store doubles a café and eatery. From my experience, when a restaurant tries to do too much it ends up losing its identity; this is not the case with Mishmish. The shop is small and modest. The walls are painted in a red-orange hue and are adorn with odd-looking portraits. The restaurant is lit softly giving it a relaxed vibe. At times the restaurant can be a noisy due to the small space and proximity to the kitchen. Seating can be troublesome, especially at peak hours. There is regular seating, which can accommodate 20-ish patrons. There is also bar seating, which can accommodate another 5 – 10 guests. The bar area overlooks the kitchen, and allows you to banter with the head chef; I highly recommend sitting here! The food is sublime! I ordered the Shepherd’s salad and the fatush. Both salads were refreshing and zesty. The green had a good crunch to them giving both salads a great texture. Next up was the hummus. The hummus was perfect; it was smooth and creamy. The pita bread that was served along side the hummus was soft, chewy and warm. For main course, I order the lamb kabob and the lentils. The lamb was cooked to perfection. The texture was remarkable; the meat had a nicely charred exterior along with a soft and juicy center. The lamb was seasoned to perfection. The lamb is a must have. The lentils were good and hearty. The lentil broth was light, not too salty and not too bland. For dessert I ordered the kanafeh, a filo dough and cheese pastry. If you were to have one dessert for the rest of your life this is it! The kanafeh is the perfect dessert for those who enjoy a crispy sweet treat. I also had some turkish coffee. Turkish coffee is like espresso times a million. The Turkish coffee, with its acidic taste, rightly balances the sweetness from the kanafeh. Mishmish is a bit pricey. What you can get at Mishmish for $ 14 you can find in Paterson for $ 5. However, Mishmish puts its stamp on Middle Eastern cuisine by adding a modern flare. For instance, incorporating quinoa or tiger shrimp into traditional cuisine. Mishmish does coffee and food right. Not many places can boast such an accomplishment. I will definitely be back for more!
