This small coffee café is amazing! Their menemeh and simit bread always tasting fresh and delicious. Never disappoints.

This bakery is cute, tidy, and very clean! I popped in for something light and sweet. When I walked in I was excited to find they had baklava! One of my absolute favorites. It was absolutely delicious! I cannot wait to return and try some other goodies!

Perfect place to hang out with Family and friends. Great food and service. Paninis and pogcas are awesome! Owner is super nice too.

I’ve been dying for simit (Turkish bagels) and didn’t realize that there was a bakery in my own town! They bagels are delicious and even come with sides (hummus, feta cheese, and provolone). I ordered three and got each of the sides.
I also ordered a banana and Nutella pastry which wasn’t the best. I’d give it a ²⁄₅. You could barely taste the Nutella, the banana was too overpowering. Also, it was too doughy and like 65% bread.
I did like the bagels and would definitely come back. They have other delicious goodies that I would want to try.

We had an absolutely delicious lunch here. Our must-​haves for next time are the Carnivore’s delight panini (which had some amazingly spiced Turkish sausage — get it on EVERYTHING), the beef gozleme (not sure if that is what they call it, but that’s what I think it is) and the cheese — filled bun. They even have Honest juice boxes for the kids. The Simit was tasty too, perfectly crisp on the outside and beautifully soft on the inside. The cherry on top is that everyone there is super nice and passionate about the food. Oh yes, and prices are great too! Will be back for sure to try the Turkish baked potato, it is huge and has tons of delicious looking toppings.

We had the baklava and a chocolate chip cookie from here. The baklava was dry (not as advertised) and it was all filo dough and no nuts in the middle. Very disappointing. The cookie had no flavor at all. This was overall very disappointing so we sadly threw it out.

This place is great – food is yummy, staff is really nice. I often stop in to pick up snacks and sit with my son. The staff is very patient about explaining their menu.

A very elegantly styled Turkish café. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff serves authentic Turkish pastries and delicacies, along with a variety of panini sandwiches bursting with flavor. They also have amazing cofees, along with many herbal teas. Highly recommend Stopping by!

A must if you’re looking for a cute place to have brunch in downtown Montclair. It’s definitely affordable as long as you’re looking for something small – my boyfriend and I shared the Turkish breakfast and a Spinach pie (all delicious)! I also tried the Turkish coffee for the first time. A little pricey for the amount you get, but I was not disappointed. There’s also free wifi and it looks like a great place to do some work while enjoying a hot beverage or pastry.

Excellent place to either pickup and bring home the Simit or just sit down and enjoy it right there with a Turkish coffee.
They do have other items as this is Americanized version of the food, however they do have the traditional Simit which I love.
I also pickup Baklava here, which is pretty good. Its a bit pricey here, but its Montclair, so its expected.
If they run out on you be prepared to wait 30 – 40 minutes for the next batch or just call ahead or comeback when its ready. There are plenty of meters around in the area to park also.

Lovely little spot on the corner of Church Street and South Fullerton for coffee and Turkish pastries and sandwiches.
They have traditional very strong Turkish coffee or Americano. There are a variety of teas, caffeinated or herbal. The pastries I had were very good. My only complaint is that there is limited seating and it can get a little crowded in this small spot. But service is excellent and the pastries are the highlight of the place.

First impressions are important. Simit made a great first impression on me. Friendly to everyone, welcoming, and genuinely interested in making sure customers are satisfied and happy, it really is «from the heart» as its menu says.
I’ve come here a couple of times on my own and with my boyfriend. The bakery is located at the intersection of Church Street, North Fullerton, and Bloomfield Ave. Most of the space is designated for the bakery operation, but there are tables indoors and outside seating when the weather is nice.
I had walked by this place a number of times and been curious about it for so long. Then one day, I had some time to kill before meeting up with a friend, so I popped in spontaneously not sure what to expect.
When I walked in, the woman in the bakery was chatting with either locals or regulars. They were all having a nice conversation. I was looking at the display case and there were so many delicious looking goodies. So many things to choose. She told me what each was. I asked what there was to drink. I got this amazing iced tea (pic below — yes, that’s a real flower). I decided to sit down and have the drink with a spinach pie there. I made the right choice — it was perfect!
Since then, I’ve had baklava, olive pogaca, cheese pogaca, potato roll, simit (amazingly good! it really is this amazing hybrid between a seame bagel and pretzel), mango iced tea, and cherry iced tea. Regarding breakfast and lunch items, there are options for vegetarians (or those with vegetarian significant others). Menemen, spinach pie, pogaca (obviously the non-​meat ones), potato rolls, and the vegetarian (humus, olive spread, sliced cucumber, and feta). I’m not sure if the red lentil soup is really vegetarian yet, but will edit this review once I try it.
I haven’t been disappointed with anything I’ve ordered. In fact, each time I order, I realize there are other things I need to try. Stop by Simit House & Bakery and discover this for yourself.

If you need a snack or breakfast on the go this is a great place to stop. If you love Turkish food you have to try this place!

Happened upon Simit last weekend while exploring the cuteness of the Montclair Center neighborhood. I’m always down to try a good baklavah and luckily my hubby is always down to try it with me.
We went in for baklavah and came out with a few additional pastries and loved all of them!
The baklavah was sweet and soft and the feta olive roll thing was so scrumptious. This coming from someone who doesn’t even like feta is a true compliment!
Definitely plan on coming back when we are less full from brunch and getting stuff to go!

*Tabbouleh kisir (this bulgur that’s mixed with tomato paste, pepper, herbs and spices; it’s served cold; so good! I love dishes like this, it was texturely satisfying and the flavor was great. I loved how it was savory yet sweet from the tomato; in the display case it’s a huge ball but when they served it, they broke it apart and served it on a bed of mesclun salad)

This café/​bakery is super cute and has a prime location at the corner of Church St. The décor is quite nice, tables are pretty cool and windows are big so plenty of light comes into the restaurant. Service is good and you can always see people cooking/​baking in the back, so you know the food you get is fresh. I was so excited to try this spot because there’s really no Turkish bakeries in Montclair. I think they’re unique and a great addition to have in this area. Will definitely be back!

The grandfather of the bagel has delivered, and its accompanying treats won me over as well!
After reading many glowing reviews and finding myself hungry and parked just down the street, I decided to stop in. Simit House Bakery feels like a coffee shop, feeds like a luncheonette, and still lives up to its bakery name. A small corner shop set just off Bloomfield Ave makes for a great location in the middle of busy Montclair. There are a few small bistro tables that can fit 1 – 3 people. I loved that there are magazines alongside the front window seat that you can grab to read while sitting.
The owner and counter girl were both fabulous. They gave me a rundown of all the treats in the case and were patient while I read the sandwich board multiple times. Despite the tantalizing chicken and vegetarian sandwiches, the veggie and cheese pie (similar to a Greek spanakopita), and beautiful looking brownies and cookies, I settled on a meat pie with side of Russian Salad. GREAT CHOICE! The meat pie was a pinwheel of flaky phyllo puff pastry with ground meat cooked within it. It was rather hearty with a bit of grease, but the portion was enough to fill you without grease gut overload. The Russian Salad was new to me, and I don’t know how I’ve missed it all these years. It’s a simple concoction of peas and carrots mixed in plain yogurt (lots of it) and seasoned with dill and mint. I’m not sure this is right, but I ate it mixed with my meat pie and was fantastically happy. Together those two items were an easy $ 5.50. Sweet!
Of course there is the simit. Like a bagel but narrower in the dough and a wider center hole, more of a hoop shape. The toasted sesame taste also carries a very subtle sweetness below it. Texture is very bagel-​esque, but since it’s narrower across there is less doughyness in the middle.
This is a great place to read with a coffee, hang out with friends, or enjoy a meal. The staff is fabulous and will serve you at your seat or let you pick it up from the counter. The Unilocal reviews were right — this place is a winner. It may bump up to 5 stars in the future.

If you’ve never had Turkish coffee, this is a decent place to try it, with some above average baked goods to boot.
For reference, Turkish coffee is generally stronger than a regular cup of joe but weaker than espresso. It’s prepared by roasting and finely grinding the beans, adding them to boiling water in the stovetop pot, and allowing the grounds to settle in the cup. The flavor tends to be a bit acidic as a result of the process.
SiMiT’s coffee is a bit metallic for my taste, but there was a nice level of foam. The ground settled at the bottom as expected.
The muffin was good, not like a typical café muffin, clearly made by a specialty producer if not on premises.
The décor was nice as was the staff. Unfortunately someone was watching TV with a couple of kids in the room while we were there.
Overall, the experience was above average; not my choice everyday but something to change it up.

Located in a corner of the beautiful and endearing Church Street, Simit serves up Turkish styled baked goods and drinks. The shop is small, with enough seats for about a dozen people (tops) but that is part of its charm. Much of the shop is taken up by their wonderful display of food. I am going to give the young lady who helped me tons of credit for answering my dozen or so questions which basically amounted to «Oh what’s THAT?!» over and over.
I have purchased several items but I started by trying out the Turkish coffee and the basic cookie (it tasted like a light, butter cookie). The coffee was delicious and rich, with the expected grounds on the bottom. It was served in a super adorable cup and saucer too! The cookie went perfectly with the coffee and had a really nice texture as it crumbles in your mouth.
Heads up, there is a Nutella and banana based pastry with chocolate chips on top. We haven’t tried it yet but we were told it is one of the best selling items on the menu, something that does not surprise me!
The next time I’m in Montclair, I’ll definitely stop by Simit again for a visit!

The turkish coffee here is OK and tastes fresh as long as you get it early in the morning. I ended up coming here to get coffee another time later in the day and ended up getting a cup that was lukewarm at best.
My boyfriend and I tried this place again today hoping that we’d be able to pick up something for lunch. We ordered turkish pizzas (pide?) today and were disappointed to find out they were cold and somewhat stale.
The people behind the counter are super kind and maybe I’m just coming at the wrong time… but I’ve been here three times and each time I’ve felt that I’ve left with something to be desired.
