Jeanette Kern, DDS

When I moved to Monterey 8 years ago, I immediately had an issue with my implant crown. I read a lot of reviews and decided to try Dr. Kern. She got me in quickly and helped me problem solve my issue. In the following 8 years, she has cared about me as a person and a patient. She has the most up to date equipment and can really think about an issue and help you come up with a solution. I would recommend Dr. Kern to anyone, especially if you are hesitant to see a dentist. She and her staff will make you feel welcome and comfortable.

Dr. Kern, has been our family Dentist for over 15 years. We could not be happier with the services that she provides. It is not only the dental work that she does so well, but the incredible work that her dental hygienists provide our family. My wife is dental phobic… so having the sensitivities that Dr. Kern and her staff have in dealing with an anxious patient has taken what had been fearful visits to a helpful and healthy dental regimen. But the true strength of her dental practice has been her immediate response to any dental emergency, or concern that we had with prompt and professional service. When you go to her office, the reception staff, the hygienist, the total office atmosphere shows an attention to detail that is present in every step of her practice. Dr. Kern is one of the finest Dentist in the Monterey Bay area.

I just moved back to the area after living out of state for many years and needed to establish with a dentist. I have heard nothing but great things about the office and her work so I decided to give her a try. After seeing one of her hygienists I had a few teeth that needed work. Dr Kern was so calm and patient with me and walked me thru everything that was going to be done. I was so pleased with the work she did and would absolutely recommend her to other people. She has such an inviting office with a very nice staff and not one time did I feel pressured into doing any work I didn’t want too. I also had my teeth whitened by her assistant and was extremely happy with my results, I feel like I have a lot more confidence with my smile and it is an amazing feeling!

Dr. Kern is the most unprofessional dentist I can imagine. If you’ve read any of the other reviews you will seen some familiar characteristics of her office and practice. Her practice is based on greed and getting her patients to spend thousands for her work. My wife and I

That we only wanted Maintenance done, which was imitated by her, within a year she sent us each a letter that she was dropping us as her patients. When we tell people what she did, they were astonished. When you see her, bring your gold bullion!!!

Dr Jeanette Kern is one of the best dentists I have ever had the pleasure to know. We first connected almost 20 years ago, when she was located in a small office on Cass. My immediate impression was noticing her attentiveness to my needs and very importantly her warmth. I never had a fear of dentist’s, thank goodness, but I did fear a dentist that wasn’t confident with a plan for me. I want my teeth & bite treated uniquely because I have smaller teeth and my bite hits harder towards the back of my mouth than most people where their bite is equal pressure on all teeth. Jeanette was the FIRST ever to point this out and it has guided her technique in my care ever since. I have had on & off dental insurance and at the times when I didn’t have it she would offer me alternative options (like doing one or a few x– rays & not a full mouth & there were other situations where she got creative on cost savings too) this was a big help to me cost wise and it was a great relief. I believe if you can honestly and openly talk to the professional you are dealing with you will get the help you need — many just don’t have the patience and words to discuss their needs and then they run & complain. Whose fault is that.
I have always tried hard to express my needs to professionals I am paying good money to and make sure we are completely understanding my needs & situations.
Jeanette has always worked whole heartedly in listening and caring to me. She is an excellent dentist!
Her staff is outrageously competent, they work SO well as a team. Her highly trained staff have taught me tips on better care techniques & products available such as dry mouth gels, the tip don’t forget to brush way in the back etc., (which i am forever thankful.) All of these lovely women are always willing to hear tidbits of my life story and laugh or cry a tear with me. I LOVE the warm neck pillow and all the amenities offered — I would rather go to a dentist who offers small pleasures to make my important visit comfortable than a cold office senario where your-​just-​another-​rear-​in-​the-​chair. All in all Jeanette has taken superior care of my mouth and I am so GRATEFUL we connected many years ago. Now my family and I are moving out of state and my goal is to find a «Jeanette» with an outstanding staff and a clean, well run office (it will be a big challenge) to continue the special care of my 55+ teeth that I want to remain in my mouth forever (my motto– NO dentures!) THANK YOU ALL for the many years together.

As stated by some other reviewers who gave her one star, Dr Kern is EXTREMELY persistent about offering you unneeded services. She appears to be guided by greed. In my case, one of the several services performed by this dentist was an orthodontic cosmetic procedure which was not only useless but potentially harmful as determined by real orthodontists. Another procedure was performed by Dr Kern with a serious defect that she herself was utterly unable to correct and I had to have someone else do it. Dr Kern became unstable during my attempts to discuss the issue in person but promptly refunded the money upon receiving a written demand. If someone could only refund me the time and reverse all of her «work»…

Jeanette is a fabulous dentist. She and her team go above the line of duty to make you feel at home and provide the best dental care possible.

I continue to be extremely impressed with every aspect of Dr. Kern’s office and staff! — a feeling that is reinforced with every appointment. Starting with the doctor’s expertise, skill, care, and wonderful «bedside» manner — to the competency, care, consideration, and concern of the entire support staff — to the continuous updates & improvements to the office’s equipment, technology, and staff training to provide patients with the latest advancements and highest level of dental care… It’s clear, from the staff as well as all the various amenities available, that excellent care with the utmost focus on patient comfort, all while providing the most positive dental experience possible, is always a priority — and this is seen throughout all parts of the practice. My highest complements, recommendations, and thanks to Dr. Kern and her entire staff & office!

Well long story short, I’ve always had a problem with the dentist, I have traveled through a few of them. At one point I gave up and decided not to go anymore and to not trust anyone with the health of my mouth. I was crestfallen :\
One day I met Dr. Kern, at first I didn’t want her near my mouth, however after talking to her she made me feel like I was home. She gave me very warm and welcome feeling, so I give it a shot. OMG! She is amazing! She helped me fix many things that were wrong with my mouth, and now I’ve never felt better :) she is a professional and incredible doctor with a spectacular personality, she really does care.
Even her staff members are caring and trustworthy. Not once did they make me feel like a was in a dental office. I have always felt like I was home :)

Please do yourself a favor and see another dentist or at best get a second opinion…
iIhave spent thousands of dollars with dr. kern and have finally left her office. I have many friends that left before me and i stuck it out and should not have. the minute I was unhappy with a very expensive outcome she did not want to fix it. I went to another dentist whom had to fix her work.

I finally left Dr Kern and greatly satisfied with my new dentist. I came back to write another review because I wanted to share my regimen at Dr Kern in case any of you are in a similar situation.
When I first came in to Dr. Kern, I was initially impress with the complimentary SPA options and her clean professional uptodate office. But as time progress alot of things slowly changed my mind.
She first recommended to remove all my mercury fillings and replace with resin. It cost me an arm and leg — I had to take a loan for it! All my mercury fillings were fine condition. She told me no cracks in my teeth but the mercury fillings potentially can cause that due to the hot and cold of certain food over time etc. In addition, deep cleaning in all quadrants were done as well. Because of «my high plague and tarter buildup», i was coming in for cleanings every 3 months instead of 6 months. In my past, i have ever had seen a dentist this often for cleaning ever and i saw my dentist regularly.
Second, my gum readings were always terrible. In fact, on my last visit, the numbers were 4, 5, even 6 and even «it looks infected». During this last visit the hygienest even schedule me for another round of deep cleaning (this is after 3 years with Dr Kern, dont forget when i first came Dr Kern I had deep cleaning at that time as well). One day later, i went to my new dentist and my gum readings were 1, 2, 3! (I made no mention of my numbers from Dr Kern because I really wanted to see what my new dentist would assess my gums to be) I even asked if there was any «infected area» and was told no. Also I was told by my new dentist that deep cleaning was not necessary.
At my new dentist, rountine cleaning cost is a fraction of what Dr Kern charges me. Don’t get me wrong, my new dentist is great, up-​to-​date technologies, great office staff, professional… does comestic procedures just like Dr Kern and has similiar setting but … yes I don’t need to go any further.

I’m moving to the East Coast, and one thing that I’m most sad about is leaving Jeannette Kern’s practice. She and her team helped me dramatically. When I first moved to California (2 years and 9 months ago), my teeth were horribly sensitive, due to enamel erosion, and my gums were inflamed. Cleanings were horribly painful.
HOWEVER, after 2+ years of Jeanette Kern and her wonderful colleagues, I had my first pain-​free cleaning in years!!! My teeth are so much whiter and stronger and my gums are pink and healthy.
Thank you!!! Also, the paraffin hand treatments are awesome and I love that they let me listen to my headphones during treatments.

Going to the dentist has never been a favorite pastime since having a horrible experience at age 10. Fortunately, tooth decay was never my issue. When I began going to Dr. Kern, it was after driving my 89 year old Godmother to her appointments — and waiting for her in the office. You see a lot of client and staff interactions just siting there. I was impressed. My 1^st foray to that office was getting my teeth cleaned… since then, I’ve had work done that I would consider important for my health rather than cosmetic (replaced metal fillings and crowns) I did call other offices, and Dr. Kern’s prices are comparable. The service and attention however, is beyond anything I’ve ever experiences — and it’s genuine.
Yes, you can always find a less expensive dentist (or doctor, or car mechanic) but this is my mouth! I want my teeth to be in my head and looking good for the remainder of my life! I feel confident that Dr. Kern will help me achieve that goal!

Dentists and physicians who excel at their skills and defensible care do not need sophisticate marketing packages and spa gimmicks. I do have to agree with posters below that Dr. Kern provides excessive and unnecessary care offered with disarmingly warm smiles and relaxation treatments.

Been going to this office for many years. Spent thousands here. After this time, I have realized that while the office is pleasant and Dr Kern very bubbly and nice, her marketing skills are better than her dental skills.

Nice front office, charge us $ 650 for my daughter, then said she could do the job. Total rip off, be very aware. Should be written up by dental board. Stay away !!!

Went in for ZOOM teeth whitening and I had a great experience. The office is very comfortable and relaxing and all the girls in the office were so nice! Dr. Kern stopped in to introduce herself and check up on me while I was getting the trays done. They even called the next day to check up on me to see if I was still experiencing any pain or sensitivity and told me to call them if I needed anything. I definitely recommend anyone who is considering the ZOOM treatment to come here.

High prices and limited office hours are a big warning sign to me and should be to everyone else! I am new to the area and scheduled a routine dental cleaning to later find out that it takes 2+ hours. I do not have that kind of free time with a 9 – 5 job. I called today (⁹⁄₁₂) at 12 pm to cancel my Monday (⁹⁄₁₆) appointment due to a last minute meeting. When I called I was told that while I am still calling in on a Thursday I will be charged a cancellation fee since they had a half day today and could not reschedule someone for my time slot. I understand cancelling the day before and having a cancellation fee but SERIOUSLY a charge for calling well in advance. I will not go back nor will I refer any of my friends or family to this practice. Also to have a routine cleaning cost over $ 450 is extremely insane. They should rethink how they treat new clients.

I can’t rave enough about my experiences with Dr. Kern. I went in to see her several months ago — my first dentist appointment in years. I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness, professionalism and aesthetics of the office and staff. I wasn’t sure if I was in a dentist office or a spa when I first walked in the door. When it came to the actual dental care, everyone was through, informative and gentle. The technology used in the office allowed me to see the inside of my mouth where they showed me what looked good and what needed improvement. It was very cool, I was impressed.
Typically, when I go to the dentist, I don’t get to spend much time with the actual dentist. Dr. Kern, on the other hand, barely left my side. She and I went over all my paperwork and we worked together to develop a treatment plan to fix the damage that my years of neglect have inflicted. She also takes a very proactive preventative stance about what she thinks I might need done. For example: I can spend a few hundred to fix my teeth now, or spend thousands on crowns later on (If I make the decision not to change what I’m doing). I appreciated having options, and Traci, her financial person on staff did specific legwork to make sure that my insurance will cover as much of my treatment as possible.
Oh yeah, the icing on the cake? She’s a total philanthropist. She’s on the board at the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center. She’s doing a fundraiser right now where she donates a % of money to a local nonprofit organization that teaches local kids to dance. I don’t know if that makes a difference to any of you, but I feel really good supporting someone who is such a positive member of our community.
Long story short: if you are looking for a dentist, look no further. She and her staff are completely fabulous.

Dr. Kern is highly knowledgeable and is always on top of the latest dental techniques. After knowing her for the past 10 years, I can say she has very high standards which she is dedicated to meeting. Not only does she do beautiful dental work with a serious attention to detail, she is a specialist in cosmetic dentistry, so even when having basic dentistry, you benefit from her expertise in aesthetics.
Her staff is friendly and attentive. If you’re nerves are on edge, they’ll provide you with head phones and an iPod to choose music from, a warm neck pillow, calming essential oils, and even homeopathic remedies for stress-​relief.
Although I don’t enjoy the idea of going to the dentist, when I go to Dr. Kern’s office I know they will make it the best experience possible and I know the dentist herself stays abreast of the very latest in dentistry.
