Anchor Moving & Storage

This company has moved me twice — once from Glassboro to Philadelphia, and once more about a mile and a half down the road in Philadelphia.
The first move was in September on an uncharacteristically sweltering day (I think the high was 97 degrees!). Bob had come a week or two prior to give me an estimate that seemed high, but I hadn’t moved before and had no one to help do it without professionals. He walked me through the process, gave me detailed but concise instructions on what was going to happen, and even gave me some really helpful tips on how to pack. On the day of the move, a large truck and three guys arrived at 8am on the dot and immediately started working. For the most part, there were two guys running up and down my stairs with boxes and helping each other with the big furniture and one who seemed to be organizing my things in the truck. My one bedroom apartment was completely empty within an hour and a half. Overall, I was very happy. The guys worked hard and efficiently despite the heat, the move was timely and with no damage to the apartment or two my things, and the estimate was right on the money. There were two things I wasn’t happy about with this move: one, I’m an inexperienced packer and struggled with how to package certain items, so I had some «free» objects that the guy organizing the truck somewhat rudely refused to take. Two, the one younger guy was hitting on me and toward the end of the move asked me out, which I declined, but which was unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. But again, I’d rate this move four out of five stars.
The second move was a different story — I wish I could give 4.5 stars total because this second experience was stellar. An estimate was given (over the phone this time) and we set the date for yesterday. Again, the weather had its own plans… It was 34 degrees and sleeting and snowing (in mid April!). Three different guys arrived promptly at 8am and after they had to fanagle the truck a bit (my street was very narrow) they immediately started working. This time, all three guys were up and down, and they had no problem taking the bagged items the other guy wouldn’t take. The crew leader or sorts was very friendly and professional, and I was entirely packed up within two hours. Here’s the kicker… My new apartment is on the third floor of a row home with very narrow stairs and on a busy and narrow street. The crew handled these hurdles well — there was a point where I didn’t think my couch was going to make it, but by some magic, they made it happen! The second leg was a tough move but they did great. Again, no damage to either apartment or my things. The snow and stairs set timing back which jacked up the cost a bit, but overall, this second experience was five out of five stars.
I would recommend Anchor Moving. They take the time to set you up in the new home, something I found to be extremely helpful, and I had no issues with unprofessionalism or damage to my belongings.

I just uploaded 35 photos of my experience with this company. Unfortunately, my wife and I made the choice to contract UPack to move our stuff from Philadelphia to Seattle. Actor Moving and Storage is who they put us in touch with to pack our home in Philadelphia. When we arrived in Seattle, basically all of our belongings were crushed. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves… I think it is pretty clear.

After we contacted the Better Business Bureau, Mike (President of Anchor Moving) reached out and mailed us a check for the $ 850 in damages. He also wrote us a detailed and sincere apology.

We had a terrible experience with Anchor Moving and Storage! They were hired for a two day move — so load up our old house on April 27, storage for two nights, unload into our new house on April 29.
Anchor damaged our carpets so badly that we ended up paying an extra $ 300 at closing to the new owners. Anchor refused to refund b/​c we did not put it in writing. Ok, my bad — not happy, but I can see their point.
You can be sure, then, that when multiple walls, the hardwood floor and the paint also on multiple walls were damaged, that we put the damage in writing on the invoice. We submitted a claim and an estimate from a professional contractor with photos for $ 850. Since then, Anchor has blatantly dodged numerous calls and emails. I called 3 times last week and actually spoke to the woman handling this situation once. She assured me she would be in touch by last Wednesday at 3 pm and was not. When I called, I was told she was in, was put on hold, and then was asked, «Oh I guess she didn’t pick up then?». My husband has dealt with the same situations.
When they actually talked to us on the phone, we were told:
A) the damage wasn’t that bad, really. (Our house is BRAND NEW and really, is any damage from a professional moving company acceptable?)
B) The driver would call us. (He did not)
C) They would send one of their own people to make the repairs (Even if that actually did happen (which it did not), I told them I am uncomfortable with someone unlicensed in that profession to make the repairs)
and
lastly d) the guy they had wanted to send to make the repairs was one of the guys from the truck.
We have been dealing with this for a month. I can’t believe how much they are charging for a move (close to $ 3000) and how much damage they are causing while refusing to reimburse.
This is absolutely appalling. We submitted claims to the BBB after our last ignored email/​unreturned phone call.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

I used Anchor Moving on September 13^th, 2014. The three men who moved me were incredible. The move went seamlessly with no casualties. They got everything in before the rain came. They were very nice and polite. I highly recommend using Anchor.

Roy was the Gentleman who come over for taking a survey for our three Level town-​home. He took his time doing the detailed evaluation and came up with a estimate. His estimate did seem more than what I intended to spend for the move. (Pretty pessimistic with all the moving horror experiences that we typically run into). So got a few more quotes. At the end, went with my gut-​feel and decided to try Anchor Moving and Storage.
Roy had mentioned that the team would come out between 8:00am and 9:00am. The team of four led by Kevin, arrived fully equipped and arrived exactly at 8:00am. Pretty impressed with that good start. It was snowing on Saturday (¹⁄₂₅), but they were so very fast on the move and did not waste *any* time at all. The complete move was DONE within the promised time frame (7hours moving. 4 men. 1 hour for travel).
Not a single damage on the walls of our older townhome or to the single home to which we were moving to. They moved pretty heavy home furniture with great ease and absolute professionalism. (No abusive language, ‘rolling of eyes’ and unpleasant experiences at all!!!). Excellent packing of all the glass furniture and not a single casualty.
No-​brainer choice — Guys!!! Ask for Roy for an estimate and Kevin as the lead mover!!! You wont be making a mistake with this choice and wont regret the money spent!!! I am so sure that I will be recommending this company to any friend, who might be looking around for a reliable mover…

moved recently in the Mt Laurel area. Used the Unilocal coupon — which was great. pricing over the phone was very organized and detailed. MJ came out and looked at the stuff to re-​confirm quote and that was reassuring.
However the 4man crew that showed up was not very professional. One guy had just started in the moving business and after the first hour was struggling. The driver (lead guy) left mid-​way as he twisted his foot. The replacement guy (Frank) was stellar and had it not been for him the move would be in bad shape.
The crew took way longer than the estimated time and I ended up paying $ 700 more than the estimate (even after MJ came out, reviewed the boxes etc. and confirmed the estimate). The crew took much longer breaks than the normal 30mins for 4 hours. They started late and tried to add original time into the cost — which I pointed out and had Frank correct.
They also ended up dinging the furniture and walls. Like I said, Frank was the ONLY guy who seemed to know what he was doing during the move. The stuff he handled was perfect. All other furniture that the team handled had scratches, dents and dings. After a while I just gave up and wanted to get done with it already. Not a good feeling when you are shelling out upwards of $ 2k for a 3mile move.
In any case, I was left feeling this was a typical bait-​and-​switch giving me a great estimate and loading in high costs after the work was done. This tactic really gets old and tiring. If they want to lead on quality service at reasonable prices, then they need to deliver. With the internet these days one bad experience like this will damage the reputation a lot more than the $ 75 discount on the coupon.
I’m sorry but would not use them again.
