JR Cigar – Mooresville

They have a good selection of cigars. Decent beer selection. They have good promotions on beers. The place is nice and clean. And a lot of parking.

Not a review of the discount brick n’ mortar store. A review of the cigar selection via the website and the slick catalog.
I’ve been smoking cigars since the 1970’s and have been a JR customer for more than 25 years. Right now I have over 50 JR cigars in my humidor. It’s granted that JR carries a lot of brands /​cigar bands that you will see no where else. These are private brands, commissioned by JR. And then there’s the JR labeled cigars that are made specifically for them out of the factories in Dominican republic and Honduras. Some of these labels are pretty tasty and have good value prices. And then some of the lower priced cigars are real clunkers with rough texture, grassy bitter flavor and disagreeable aromas. If you are a new customer I recommend that you buy a few sampler packs and see which cigars you prefer.
The slick magazine format catalog is a treasure trove of cigar information. Too bad that the owner, Lou, no longer writes his rants and raves throughout the catalog. I used to enjoy his sardonic humor and wacky take on almost everything.
Back to the review: If you’re a cheapskate cigar smoker like me, you may appreciate JR cigar as well. Prices are 50 — 75% lower than the few fancy pants cigar shops that remain here in the good ol’e USA.

One of my new favorite places to hang out at. There is a massive selection of cigars with knowledgeable staff. The atmosphere is calm, very relaxing. There’s a bar within the store stocked with matches and lighters to smoke your cigar at if you wish. What I find most interesting about this bar is the only serve local North Carolina beer and ale. I would recommend ordering a red oak my favorite

Overrated on the selections. Nice place to smoke and hang out but I liked the selection at the old facility in Statesville. Miss the people watching as well.

My brother in law was in from out of town, he’s a cigar aficionado. Great selection of beers on tap, place is absolutely relaxing and chic man cave décor. Outside is amazing with fire pits and tons of seating. I don’t smoke however I rather like the scent once in a while, feels like your in a old mobster movie lol…

Great selection and very friendly staff! I am new to the cigar world and have never been made to feel ignorant when asking for advice on cutters, humidors, etc.
The ventilation system is also much better than I’ve experienced in other cigar shops. Even with 10 people sitting around the bar with cigars, you will never be surrounded by a cloud of smoke, which makes it a place you can easily invite a friend who doesn’t smoke cigars.
Use a quality GPS app (Waze led me right to the store) the first time you check this place out, and you shouldn’t have a problem finding it.
Also, if you are looking for a specific cigar, I would recommend calling ahead. Though the cigar selection is large, they don’t carry every cigar ever produced in the exact quantity you might be looking to purchase.
It might save you from having to give a bad review to a quality joint… ;)

Found the staff to be friendly and professional. Nice lounge with a bar stocked with beers from the Carolinas. The location is a pain to get in and out of due to traffic congestion.

This place is amazing. Perfect stop for out and about days! I don’t agree that the review prior stating that it’s 24^th century modern. It’s rustic and classy. It’s luxury just as Winston Churchill would require-​seems like it would definitely be a lounge he would attend.
It’s if restoration hardware threw up all over this place in the BEST way possible. The staff is amazing and friendly and have been the most helpful.
Craft beer bar is coming soon also so that is a major plus. You can also order food from menus and have it delivered from local restaurants straight to your comfy leather chair.
I do have one complaint about people standing and smoking inside the humidor. That just doesn’t make sense… You’re surrounded by the best aged cigars in the world and they’re absorbing the smell of your ghurka– come on mannnnnng!!!
Definitely the best new hangout in Mooresville. It’s not uncommon to see someone come in looking for cheap cigarettes with about 10 kids. If you’re looking for cigarettes they don’t sell them! ****They’re bad for you anyways :) ***

Getting to this new store location is ridiculous. Took forever to find it, no signage, trouble turning in and out of the main traffic lanes. And after all that work just finding the place and not getting killed by oncoming traffic, turns out they didn’t sell the cigars my husband wanted individually; had to buy them in a packaged set. On the plus side, it’s very pretty inside the store. Good luck.

I love this new place. When you first go in you immediately step into a cigar lounge/​man cave replete with tv’s, tables, and leather comfort chairs. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They even let me borrow a cutter and lighter, which I had forgotten at home.
The store itself is a bit smaller than it was in its former Statesville location. The cigar selection also looks a bit smaller and the prices appear to have gone up a tiny bit compared to previous. Nevertheless, I was able to find my favorite «go to» sticks. This will foreseeably become one of my favorite escapes.
[Updated this review with a higher score to balance out the clueless review by a clueless Unilocaler which followed mine. The fact that she can’t work a map nor a GPS is not a reflection on JR’s. JR’s is NOT hard to find nor is the traffic pattern heavy in the slightest. It sounds more like she begrudged making a cigar run for her hubby.]

Gone is the JR cigar store in Statesville that I shopped in for over 20 years. Gone is the old wood flooring, the 6 ft tall wooden cigar store Indians, Gone are the antique cash register, Dr. Pepper drink cooler and barber chair scattered through out the store.
In its new reincarnation in Mooresville is a bright, ultra modern glass, chrome and leather store that makes me feel I’ve been transported from the 19^th to the 24^th century. If ultra modern is your style, you will love it, me I’m more of log cabin kind of guy than a Starship Enterprise kind of guy.
I walk in and the first thing I notice are the higher prices along with the higher end cigars and accessories. The second thing is the entire time I’m in the store, not one employee greets me, speaks to me or ask if they can help me. They are all just standing around, smoking and BS’n with each other. What a job! Stand around, smoking cigars, BS’n with your co-​workers and getting paid not to help customers! Finally after 15 minutes I had to ask one of them where the items I was looking for was at and of course, they didn’t have 2 of the 3 things I came in for.
Yes, the store is nice. Yes they have several indoor lounges with big screen tv’s and outdoor seating areas complete with gas fire pits for your smoking pleasure. They now even have humidors to rent so you can store your cigars.
It seems to me the new owners are now concentrating on the higher end customer that can easily spend $ 100 or more on a box of cigars or $ 10-​$ 12 or more on a single cigar and forgetting about the man a budget like me.
My first visit to the new store and it was not a good one. Customer service sucked because there was none, they are out of 2 of the 3 things I go in for and the prices have risen to a point that doubt I will ever go back into the new JR’s, and that’s sad after shopping in the old store in Statesville for over 20 years.

JR is a legendary discount big box chain that also features an awesome cigar selection at great prices. Locally, it was in Statesville in a big box but it has now moved to Mooresville. The big box is gone replaced by a sleek cigar only venture. It is well designed with inviting modern lounges and stonework as well as a huge walk in humidor with a broad selection of upper end cigars. The lounges feature comfortable furniture and big screen TVs. It is truly a cigar smokers fantasy hang out. Word is they may add a bar. The cigar selection at this location seems a bit more expensive than the previous location. Regardless, this is a must destination for any cigar lover.
