History

Established in 2012.

The owner has over 6 years experience in the paver/​design industry. He is ICPI Certified and has worked for other large companies before deciding to start his own company with low over head to provide a low cost, high customer satisfaction option to this growing industry.

Business Owner

Originally from New York, Bob relocated to the Bay Area with IBM who he previously worked for over 18 years in the high tech industry. He decided to pursue a career change in 2005. Upon working in the Real Estate and Home Improvement industry, Bob found his calling. Designing and installing beautiful paver stones and hardscapes.

He is passionate and dedicated to building relationships and ensuring great customer satisfaction. He enjoys all aspects of his work, from the initial meeting with customers, to seeing the final project completion. He enjoys being able to see the final products of his work.

I contacted Pavers By Design through Unilocal.A few days later, I got a phone call from Bob. We talked about my project and set up an appointment for him to come to my home and give me an estimate.
Bob came by and measured my yard and then we sat down and discussed a lot of options. He was very knowledgeable! He gave me so many ideas on what do with my yard as well as lots of information on how I might want to landscape the remaining area after the pavers. I had lots of questions and he had lots of answers.
We settled on a design and a price. The next day, he emailed me the drawings of the plans and the estimate.
He and his crew were at my home 3 weeks later to do the install.
The demolition and install went very quickly. They were done in 3 days.
I LOVE LOVE the look of my new backyard. I am so happy that they took out the cement patio and grass and replaced it all with textured pavers. I am looking forward to summer parties in my backyard.

About a year ago we had Bob from Pavers by Design (PBD) and three different other firms bid on a small sideyard project for pavers. The project was delayed and I can say at least one of those companies is out of business, but Pavers By Design was still available and agreed to honor their quote from 12 months earlier.
It was a pleasure to work with Bob and his crew on our project. Bob took the time to actually sit down with my wife and consider various options for pavers, borders, brands, textures, and colors. Bob spent a considerable amount of time overseeing the workers; he did not simply sell the job and disappear. He ensured that any questions were handled when the inevitable construction issues which arose around our demolition and around the final layout of the pavers (our prior hardscape contractor didn’t leave a straight line for the pavers which impacted the original plan).
If you are looking at stamped concrete, I would encourage you to get a bid for pavers. We are disappointed that we did not find Pavers by Design sooner because the result of the pavers is far more stylish than the stamped concrete elsewhere on our property. The price is comparable and the benefits of pavers are superior to concrete.
By the way, I find most of the 1-​star reviews for this company to be based on perceived phone etiquette and not actual work completed. If you let those reviews persuade your decision you are making a mistake in my opinion.

I placed 2 calls on 2 separate days to get a bid for our patio. Bob responded to the second call with «thought you were a vendor» that’s why he didn’t respond to the first. He came out the next day. Measured and gave me a verbal bid. I requested an email bid. Gave him my email address.
He never provided a business card, or brochure.
He never sent a bid. I placed 2 additional calls on 2 days. Never have received a call back or bid on email.
Guess he didn’t want our business.
I would not recommend this guy.

We recently had Pavers By Design do an update of our patio. This entailed removing an old double deck area that had lots of dry rot and installing cobblestone– like pavers. During the demo, we discovered that our redwood pergola also had some dry rot issues under the deck line. Bob Traina was extremely helpful in finding a contractor to resolve those issues quickly. Then his crew did the paver work. They are very hard working guys who know their trade well. The whole job was completed in a week and we love it. Bob is excellent to work with. competent and conscientious. He communicated throughout the project so we knew what to expect and made several helpful suggestions. Highly recommend.

I contacted Pavers By Design to get an estimate on installing pavers on our walkway and stone on our front porch area. Bob came out to assess the area and the job. He promised to get us a quote. We never heard back from him. After repeated calls to the owner, I was called back and told that he needed to get the foreman out to see the job before he could give us a quote. Fair enough. He said he would call us back. We never heard back from him. After further calls on my part, he called back and said he was just so busy, he couldn’t take the job. I would not recommend him to anyone.

We had a patio installed by Mr. Traina and crew. While we were satisfied with the work, our after installation service has been less than professional.
My wife and I have left NUMEROUS texts and even have seen Bob in person with some concerns; chipped pavers and sealer. All the while he assured us he’d «have someone right on it»…No ONE EVER showed UP.
We hired someone else.
While Bob talks about keeping the customer happy he falls well short.
Over promised and under delivered!

After interviewing several paving companies and being somewhat frustrated, I called Pavers By Design. Mr. Traina conducted and evaluated the area, terrain slopes, sub-​base requirements, and most importantly, proper drainage. His staff proved to be completely knowlegeable, hard working and extremely well versed in every aspect of paver installation. His staff proved to be honest, reliable and completely professional in every respect. They were on time, clean and went well beyond our expectations. We would not hesitate to strongly recommend Pavers By Design for any project, large or small.

Bob Traina of Pavers By Design is fantastic. His design was unique in comparison to the other two contractors that came out… and best of all, a WHOLE LOT LESS MONEY without pressure.
The job was clean and took less time than expected. Bob Traina was on the job making sure everything went smoothly and the design changes I wanted was quickly done at a more than fair price.
My wife and I are thrilled with our new driveway and patio. I highly recommend Pavers by Design to anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bob is not pushy and will save you money.
