BDR Construction & Remodel

This review is long over due. We bought a house in San Mateo that needed serious work. Bud was amazing! Since this was our first project we had no idea what we wanted or what would go with the flow of the house. But with Bud’s professional experience and aesthetic eye the pieces fitted together perfectly. He is very exact and skilled. Even our city inspector was impressed. Thank you Bud for our beautiful home.

We bought a house that needed serious renovation of both of its bathrooms. Both down to studs, sistering joists, replacing subfloor, moving a bracing wall, moving fixtures, etc. We needed to get a big project done as quickly as possible so as to not pay two mortgages any longer than necessary.
Bud was one of 10 contractors I talked to, and three that I got formal bids from. Bud’s bid was very reasonable, and he understood our need to get it done quickly. Most of all, Bud is an extraordinarily easy man to get along with. He’s an excellent communicator, and truly a gentleman.
His initial time estimate was downright aggressive, and was ultimately thwarted by unforeseeable complications with the existing plumbing and ordering the peculiar windows we needed, but I can’t fault him. He kept his subcontractors cranking. No time was wasted.
Several times the scope of the project grew: Our HVAC vents had to be brought up to code, and we discovered problems in plumbing unrelated to the bathrooms, and we decided to do more work in our laundry room than we’d originally thought necessary. Bud tracked them as change orders to the original estimate. Each one was easy to understand, so it was straightforward to track how the cost of the project grew with the scope.
Most important, the results are outstanding. He encouraged us to salvage a hardwood floor that looked like a totally lost cause, and it’s become one of the finest parts of the house. The bathrooms are excellent. The plumbing has been great. The HVAC has been great. We love living in the house. It’s hard to believe how much better it is now when I look back at the old photos.
I feel so fortunate to have found Bud. We’ve had him back recently to install a floating floor in our basement laundry area that came out beautiful. Even now, months after our projects concluded, we exchange friendly messages. Before Bud I’d had typical experiences with General Contractors. Bud raised the bar. I recommend Bud with absolute confidence, and look forward to the next big project we’ll do together.

When you trust someone with remodeling your home, it really is about finding the right PERSON — not a company or even a reputation. We bought our home in Downtown Mtn View late last year, and had 1 month to remodel the master bedroom and convert 1 central bathroom into 2 and redo the entire plumbing before moving in. After searching broadly for a contractor, I found Bud to be the right person for the job for 2 main reasons: 1) He is METICULOUS in the DETAILS. Doing a remodeling job perfectly requires incredible attention to the little things, and trusting someone to work at this level on your home is very difficult to find; 2) He has an EYE for DESIGN. The project took countless exchanges over phone, email, and in person. (Btw, he’s very responsive in communication.) He was able to give us very specific recommendations that would work well with the era of the home, and his recommendations (based on the options we gave him) were always well-​fitting. He understood our vision, and did everything to execute that plan.
In summary, Bud was the perfect person to partner with as we completed our master bed /​bathroom remodeling project on a timed schedule. He’s attentive to details, responsive and personable, and has keen perspective on design. This combination of qualities is rare indeed.
