I should have read the prior reviews before we booked them! HORRIBLE!!! DISHONEST and provided lousy service.
Where do I start… I booked them 3 days prior to our move and went with them because they were able to provide an earlier time slot between 12 – 3. At no time did they state they had a busy day or that they were just fitting us in.
So during the time of our move they called to tell me they would be closer to 3−4pm instead, and I pointed out that I was 7 months pregnant with a 14mo old toddler who needed to be in bed by 6pm. The dispatcher apologized and stated that the manager would comp our packaging material for the inconvenience.
When they finally arrived after 530pm my husband and I had all the boxes already in the garage ready for the move to try and speed up the process but yet it still took them past 10pm to complete.
All of our moving boxes were left in the garage and furniture was disassembled. Once we tried to piece our home together saw that they scratched up our hardwood floors and tried to cover up by leaving our furniture on top of it, they broke our 6 month old HD flatscreen, where it will not even turn on because the screen is cracked completely, and they dented in our refrigerator. So at 7 months pregnant I was so lucky enough to have to move boxes into our new home from the garage and put furniture together, try and get an overly tired 14 month to sleep over 4hrs past her bedtime.
We spent over $ 600 on the move, have over $ 1000 in damages, and not to mention at the time of payment they decided to back peddle and give us only half off of our packaging ($ 65) off for being almost 3hrs late. When I called and emailed them to discuss their disgusting service, they offered us $ 70 (took a lot of poorly written email banter back and forth. They even spelled ‘tomorrow’ as ‘2maro’) ! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
This company is a complete utter JOKE! I have reported them to the BBB and for those that had to deal with the lousy service (or lack of) that I have seen from these reviews, I suggest you do the same. The should not be in service!

TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO READ THIS AND SAVE YOURSELF A TON OF TIME, MONEY AND AGGRAVATION. After reviewing a few different moving companies for a move from Chicago to Memphis, I chose Liberty Moving. Karen in the office reviewed my other quotes and told me that other companies will low-​ball the customer, but on moving day, surprise the customer with a much larger estimate. She was very kind, and ‘sold me’ on the fact that their estimate was very fair. After a few lengthy calls with her, and a 40 minute video chat showing all of my contents, the estimate was $ 2910. I thought that was high for a 2 bedroom condo, but felt confident that it was a decent price, and was accurate based on the time spent going over my items. The movers show up on moving day and quote me $ 4000. I couldn’t believe it was over $ 1000 difference, especially when we had such a thorough review of my contents. Their customer service is absolutely horrible — aside from the men that did the physical move, everyone in the office is a nightmare to deal with. I never did hear back from Karen, the manager is unresponsive, and the guy in the office has horrible customer service skills. They don’t return calls, they act like they are doing you a favor, and they are extremely rude. No one could tell me when my delivery was going to be made (I knew it was 4 – 10 days) and then the day of the move, they call me three hours before delivery to let me know they were going to be here. Boxes were unloaded and busted apart, a dresser was split in half, my king size mattress dirty, and at least one item completely missing. I have yet to unpack the boxes in my storage unit but I can’t even imagine the extent of damage, just based on the condition of some of the boxes that came off the truck. I will fill out the claim form, with little confidence that they will respond or even consider paying the claim. I do not know how this company is still in business. I wish I had spent more time reviewing this company, because I would have never gone with them. Karen is really sweet upfront but once she makes her sale, she disappears. Don’t let their hold music fool you — We know how stressful a move is, we want to make sure your move is smooth, blah blah blah.” You’ll listen to it for quite a while too. They claim they were having ‘phone issues and high call volume’ the entire time I was dealing with them (about 2 ½ weeks). YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. Good luck in finding a professional, respectful and responsive moving company!

Was quoted about $ 500 but they ended up charging us close to $ 1,000 to move a one bedroom apartment. Charged about $ 300 for just supplies. They used a ridiculous amount of tape to wrap everything up just so they could drag and not have to carry the furniture. Rip off and never using again!!!

it’s our second time to hire, «liberty moving and storage «to move our office. As the other time we called them, they were quick at the phone knew how to do their job, and most important I felt comfortable … We agree for 6−8pm arrival time, and they shoed up around 6:15 pm which was great. this company is highly recommended .we will hire them again for all of my moving need

I used this Company to Move From Chicago to FL. First I had to call the Day of pick up to remind them that I had a pick up. When I called they seemed to have forgot that they had my move scheduled. They told me they were going to be late on this phone call and arrived 3 hours after they told me they were going to arrive. Upon Delivery they told me one time and showed up 5 Hours later then tried to charge me a fee for making them wait… I had to go to work so could not be at the house when they arrived. When waiting for my stuff they arrived a few weeks later than planned. Save yourself the headache and use a more reliable company. I would NEVER use this company again

I just received my stuff in CA from Chicago. IF THE COMPANY RESOLVES MY ISSUES I WILL BE GLAD TO IMPROVE MY REVIEW AND WITHDRAW MY BBB COMPLAINT.
My issues: Increased charges by more than $ 600 after the phone quote.
*I requested my belongings to be sent JUNE 18^th with RYAN at 2:00pm. He did not send them out until JULY 2^nd. I received my goods JULY 8^th at 10 pm. WE HAVE A CONTRACT STATING YOUR MAXIMUM DELIVERY WINDOW IS 14 DAYS. So, unless you plan on giving me a partial refund, plan on seeing me in small claims court. It’s free for me, and I have all of the documentation I need.
*I packed my belongings in Sterilite storage containers– they all arrived either crushed or cracked open. How many heavy boxes did you put on top?
*My floor lamps should have been wrapped in «free moving blankets», they were not, so they both arrived broken ($ 150 each).
*The bottoms of my sofa had floor protectors which your movers broke off! Then they put it on the brand new living room wood floors and scraped a huge piece of wood off.
**************They quoted me $ 55 per month for storage and then charged $ 208 for two months.
TRUST ME, I’M THE LADY WHO NEVER GETS TIRED, so do something about this now or see me in court.

This was my first move with movers. Not sure if I just had different expectations but I received a call the day before my move to tell me that the movers would be at my home at 8:30am… Well, 8:30 came and went. I tried to call the office (which of course didn’t open until 9:00) and when I finally got ahold of them, they said the driver would call me. The driver did, to tell me that he would be there at 10:30/11:00… Ummm… that is hours after I was told. When they finally showed up, they smelled of pot. Not kidding at all. What was I going to say? Couldn’t get another company, had to move that day, and these people were about to move my things. The driver blamed the office and said they had another move that morning. I stayed quiet… Good news is, nothing was broken but had I known how movers moved things, I would have packed differently. So after everything was said and done, I was charged $ 100 extra in tape and wrapping material which had they not been late and rushed thru all the paperwork, I would have understood better.
The best part of it was when I called the office to speak with the manager, he seemed to not care. He sort of blamed me for not calling that day (Friday) and waiting until Monday. In my defense, it took all day to move since it started late, office was closed by the time I could call, and when I did call in the middle of the day on Monday, the message also said the office was closed. I had to send an email to get a call back. I told the manager not only where they late, but they smelled like pot. He didn’t seem phased at all, said he would talk to the foreman. Because the foreman would tell the truth on that one?!? I should have read more reviews before I booked this service.
Update: After I posted this, the manager just called me and said he was going to give me a discount but after the owner saw my review, he won’t give me the discount. I said to him, that was fine, but my review was still an accurate representation of the situation and that experience wouldn’t change weather they discounted the service or not. For me, it isn’t about the money, it’s about people taking ownership for their company. The guy finished with saying, they get thousands of companies but only 2 reviews a year. Well, maybe people just are not posting their experiences.

If I could give them a zero, I would too! I agree with every single bad experience a person has had on Unilocal and say they did ALL the same to me. However, first they doubled our original rate, then when we said we were moving to florida, raised it again another 2000… so we’ve gone from a 2,200 estimate to over 6,000 now, then we were going to move to California (obviously we had some issues) however, we were then informed our 2000 dollar move, was going to cost us 12,000 yup folks, THATS TEN THOUSAND dollars more than originally quoted. I said I don’t have 10 thousand dollars to give you I’m sorry. He agreed to a payment plan, starting with 1000 dollars, which we brought up to Morton Grove, to which he said no now I want 4,000. So he puts our stuff up for auction, after sending us a letter, he is supposed to put an ad in the paper for two weeks (15 days) telling when and where auction would be. Instead, the DAY after our two weeks of receiving the letter, he sold all our stuff. We’re now suing him!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! i IMPLORE YOU AND YOU WILL BE SORRY!!! and don’t let Eran tell you he isn’t the owner, he and his brother own it and the manager seems to be the only one without his head up his ass. Excuse the language.

I had a very negative experience. If you are a woman, do not be by yourself. I felt sexually harassed, took 2 hours more than quoted and the cost was nowhere near what I was originally told due to the excessive amounts of tape used.
A lamp was also broken and I cut the move short due to feeling uncomfortable for such a long amount of time.

I have moved with Liberty movers on several occations and have been extremely happy. However, when I called them for one last move this month I was purely disappointed with the results. We have lived in 2 bedroom condos/​apartments and large town homes and they alway sent a three man crew that works hard and works fast. Moving us easily within 3 ½ hours. When I called around for quotes they were not the lowest hourly charge but because we had used them in the past and been pleased we decided to go with them again.
The crew were obviously tired and I understand as they did not get to us until 8pm when we were told they would come between 6 – 8 and earlier if possible.
The company accepted my late moving time and I was quoted a 3 ½ hour move based on previous moves. (mind you I still live in a small 2 bedroom condo and have the same nubmer of items as before) it took the crew 8 hours!
There were mutiple cigarette breaks, cell phones being plugged into our outlets, items being dropped and dumped off the dally and my dresser was even dropped off the truck lift onto the pavement. By the time they stopped for gas and arrived at the new location it was so late and way past our 3 ½ hour quote already so I told them to just unload all boxes into the garage. The only thing they actually brought into the house were the furniture peices. Several of my items were damaged including my dresser, my dining table, coffee table corners, book shelfs that were chiped and floating shelfs with damages and cracks. When the movers left it was 3am and the move was not completed. There was still a SUV truck load of items left at the condo and all the boxes were in my garage. (Typically they deliver the boxes and items at least to the area the box identifies the items to go ie; KITCHEN)
Because the dresser was dropped in front of us I asked them how do I go about reporting damaged items. They told me to take a picture and send it in with very little regard for the fact that they just dropped and damaged my only dresser!
When I called to complain saturday the gentleman on the phone said that 8 hours is a very long time to move a 2 bedroom condo and he would look into it.
After my complaints were turned into the claim department I was told they would refund me $ 30.00!!!
My $ 400 quote that turned into $ 820 and a damaged dining table, damaged dresser, damaged coffee tables and damaged book cases that now have to be replaced and they offer me $ 30.
I just bought my first house and it is ridiculous that with all the expenses and money I paid these guys to move me that I now have to go out and buy a new table, a new dresser and new coffee tables because I hardly think I will be able to find a match to the other one they did not damage!!! Than they made sure to comment that they do not replace IKEA furniture… the only thing from IKEA was the bookshelf all other items were purchased at major furniture retailer and were not cheap furniture. To say the least, I AM LIVID!!!
The buck stops here, thanks for the customer loyalty after all the years we have used your services and the multiple times we have referred your business this is how you treat us? I dont think I should have to pay for the fact that you booked a job for a crew of movers that had been moving all day and ran out of gas for my move! How was I to know the same crew you sent to me at 6−8pm had been working since 6 am… sorry but thats poor booking on your part and I am the one who pays ALL of the consequences.

My husband and I were having problems because his company changed our moving destination 3 times before deciding on a location for us. I was in contact with Ben from Liberty Moving and he was very patient and checked in with us often.
When we finally knew the date and locations of our move, we only had three days to get out of our apartment. Ben set up everything right away with no problem.
The movers arrived exactly on time on the day of the move and finished so fast that we ended up paying less than the quoted amount. Ben also went the extra mile to scan and mail me additional invoices and receipts for my husband’s company to make sure that everything worked out for us.

I trusted them to pack and move me across the country and they packed all my expensive breakables without bubble wrap. They put them in cardboard boxes, stacking one expensive plate on top of the other. Of course, many of my breakables arrived shattered. When I submitted my claim, they tried to say they used bubble wrap even though both I had specifically asked them to use bubble wrap and they said they didn’t have any.
They scratched up a near-​perfectly finished 1940’s antique sideboard and dining table. They won’t pay to have it repaired. They packed expensive lamp shades at the bottom of boxes, unwrapped since they did not bring bubble wrap, and piled books on top of them. Of course, the lamp shades arrived scratched and smashed but they are refusing to pay for them.
Even though I have photos of all the breakage, and it was a lot, they are refusing to pay for the damage.
There was at least one box that did not show up at all and it contained very expensive lamps and a Gucci purse and mysteriously they don’t know where it is and are refusing to cover it as well.
I am contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce about them as well. I have had other clients of theirs contact me to say they also did not receive their belongings and are pursuing action through the appropriate legal and government channels.

I have moved with Liberty Movers twice in the last 2 years and had good experiences both times. The movers are VERY nice and professional– they know what they are doing and move quickly! They did not damage anything while moving, either. The staff in the office were also very helpful and flexible because I had to change my move out/​in date multiple times.
They have really fair prices. I just used them in July ’12 and here is what to total cost was: $ 513 for a 4 hour move (within the same city) for a one bedroom apt with many large pieces of furniture, 3 men, a truck, and tape/​bubblewrap fees. The breakdown: $ 94/​hr, $ 47 for the truck, tax, and $ 90 in tape/​bubblewrap fees. If I had used more tape myself I might have lowered this cost… maybe.
The only reason they do not get 5 stars from me is that BOTH years they were late! The first year they arrived 2 hours past the end of the arrival window and this year the arrived one hour past the end of the arrival window, which caused some stress moving into my new building. I was also the first move of the day so I know the responsibility is on them, not a prior move. However, I think that all movers on planet earth always arrive late– no matter who people use, you always hear this. Overall, good experience.

I used Liberty Movers 4 years ago when I moved and would have given them five stars then. Because of that, I booked them for my move yesterday. They are getting two stars because the guy Dave who makes arrangements for moves via phone is great.
The movers, however, were not so dandy. Not only did they take time to take cell phone calls and repack many things, they spoke in Spanish the entire time so that we could not understand anything that they were saying. My quote was for 250 and it ended up being 390 which is fine because we had a lot of stuff, but now I have to pay $ 200 for new plates because those jokers didn’t know how to read FRAGILE when it was clearly marked. Once we started unpacking I picked up an UPSIDE DOWN box and could hear the broken glass inside. Upon opening it I found my entire set of plates was broken Another box was placed upside down in our new place as well. Although it wasn’t fragile, it came open when I tried to turn it back over and my entire toolkit went everywhere.
To top this whole experience off, the main guy guilted me about tipping on my credit card and insisted I go to the ATM to get cash for them. Fine whatever.
Find other movers if you can. I’m sure there are some movers who, even if they’re foreign, have been taught to read the word FRAGILE.

This moving company was the absolute WORST WORST WORST I have ever dealt with in my entire life! They were 4 hours late, and VERY rude! They were very rough with our things. And here’s the cake topper. We had an arrangment with the company to pay by credit card, when the move was finished. 2 hours after they finished at 9PM!!! They asked me for cash!!! I told them no, because they were suppose to charge my card when they were done unpacking the truck during NORMAL business hours! So when I told them, I wasn’t giving them the $ 200.00 in cash, they took off with my stuff!!! I called the police I was so upset! My husband called the company and the manager was such an idiot. He first said the guys would be back with our stuff in 10 mins. Then he said they were on a break. I was livid!!! So needless to say, we didn’t get our stuff back that night. So Monday rolls around, and we drive to Morton Grove to get our stuff back. They didnt charge us for the move, but I’m just glad we got our stuff back!!! This was the absolute WORST moving company EVER. Please don’t get caught up in these idiots! Find a better moving company!!! BEWARE!!!

They showed up more than two hours early, were angry that we hadn’t finished packing all the little things (which we’d planned to do that morning before they arrived, I’m talking PJs, toiletries, air mattress, etc).
When I booked I explained that the couch and bed couldn’t fit in the elevator and they’d have to use the stairs, and the supervisor assured me there was no extra charge for the stairs. Of course they angrily insisted that we had to pay extra for the stairs.
They re-​taped and re-​boxed almost all of our boxes (we were charged for all that tape & boxes too!) and complained loudly how they didn’t like the way we had packed and said we hadn’t used enough tape, etc.
Finally when they finished the head guy made me fill out a survey while he watched (and wouldn’t let me do it privately) and then demanded a tip! In front of all his crew no less. He even told me how much I should give them!
They damaged several items though nothing was severe. They also scuffed up the walls in the hallway of the new apartment building.

As an update, I just received an email from «Dave» who states the company is under new management and would like to pay me to remove my original review. Strangely, I wrote this review almost 1 year ago and my horrible experience didn’t seem to bother them at all. To Dave: I will not be bought out to make your reviews better. If you had wanted to apologize or reimburse me for the horrible service that I was forced to pay for, you should have said that. The point of Unilocal is to allow others to see what kind of service and customer service they might be paying for and I am not going to be paid off to allow others to fall into the same trap. This is just more evidence that Liberty Moving and Storage’s unprofessional business practices have not changed.

UPDATE TIME! So if these guys were not bad enough for the moving job they did (or lack thereof depending on how you look at it), after they read my scathing review they tried to bribe me money to take it off Unilocal… BRIBE ME! We signed a packing and moving service contract with Liberty Movers on May 20, 2010 for packing and moving service priced at $ 0.80 per pound from Chicago, IL to San Francisco, CA. Scheduled pick up was Wed 6÷16÷10. I spoke with Arthur Fomin, a sales rep, who had told me that he was the manager. He guaranteed delivery within 14 days from pick up. It is now July 7^th. My wife is 7 ½ mos pregnant and we have been left with no furniture in our home. We’ve made 10 call attempts to get updates on our delivery with no success. Once we were told by a sales rep that a voice message was left for our truck driver on ⁶⁄₂₅. Since pickup of our items, our sales rep Arthur Fomin, we were told, has been «MIA» and had not been showing up to work. I finally spoke with a Mike Toledo, the long distance dispatch manager, on ⁶⁄₂₆. He was rude and hung up on me saying the package would arrive in the next few weeks and the driver would call within 24 hrs of delivery. I tried again the morning of 7÷7÷10 to get an update and was told by a different associate that the items are estimated for delivery on Wed 7÷14÷10. This date is well beyond the 14 days, let alone the 14 business days the movers have been arguing about. No explanation at all regarding the delay or status of all our belongings.

We were informed on Fri July 8^th by Mike the dispatcher that our things would be delivered by Wednesday July 14^th and that he would confirm on Monday July 12^th with the truck driver. I called Mike Monday ⁷⁄₁₂ morning and no word from the truck driver. Later that afternoon, I called again and one of Mike’s associates told me that the movers would be here before the weekend now 7÷17−7÷18. This is absolutely unacceptable. We are now beyond 4 weeks from pick up of our belongings and well beyond the contractual 14 business days from pick up.
Now they are holding my belongings hostage. they will not deliver my things this Sunday ⁷⁄₁₈ unless I make full payment, even though its taken them 34 days to deliver my things compared to 14 days. Shady, incompassionate, unprofessional, unpredictable. Stay away. No nightmare is worth the couple hundred dollars savings.

Think twice before using them. Make sure you read the contract regarding boxes, moving extra feet, etc. Read the contract before you sign it. What was estimated to be a $ 1,200 move for a client, ended up being $ 2,200. An additional $ 1,000. I will never use them again. If you need proof, email me and I’ll be glad to share it with you.
