Sea Goddess Whale Watching

The best thing about this tour is they know when to get you back in — although they state up to 3 hours, 2 was more than enough and they brought us back after watching 2 – 3 whales popping in n out.
No need to boat very far, the sea life is right there once you leave the harbor — I would highly recommend Sea Goddess.

Saw lots of breaches and flips. It was exciting, after 3x and 3 hour round-​trip drives. yah! The boat tours are really a hit or miss. There’s no perfect day, but try to go on a clear and non –foggy day, which can be difficult during the winter months.

I went three weekends in a row. It’s great that you don’t need to go too far out before you see wild life. Each time I went was different and we saw different things. I always came back with great photos and awesome stories.
The naturalist seemed to know her stuff and tried to point is in the right direction.
I do need to say Kenny the deck hand was awesome with my 6 year old. By the return trip she was chatting with him and all smiles (she did get a little bored near the end. You’d think that swing humpback whales super close to the boat would never get bored. .)

Amazing trip!!! Saw several whales, tons of dolphins and sea lions. We had a Pelican land on our boat, which was a first according to our guides. They were informative and very helpful a must if you are in the area.

Amazing experience, highly recommend the Sea Goddess. Buy the groupon. We saw tons of whales and dolphins. Very exhilarating. Boat was safe and clean and not overcrowded. Park on the street over the bridge and save yourself the seven bucks. Our kids have a fabulous time and were not bored. They are 8 and 11. Take note that they don’t allow kids under five.

What a day!
The Sea Goddess does a great job! The ship and crew were wonderful. The naturalist was knowledgeable and very personable. The small group size made this one of the most enjoyable whale watching experiences ever.

What an amazing experience. Saw a bunch of humpback whales… It was a perfect day… The tour guide Evan was smart, funny and educational. There was another girl walking around giving answers to any questions anyone had and our captain was great at giving us the best views of the whales. Defiantly would recommend this to people and can’t wait to bring more visitors here :) great job guys!!! Thank you

I found a Groupon and took my father with me to scope out whales, per the website’s description. Signs in the parking lot were plentiful so it was very easy to maneuver around. Once signed in, we were ready to board.
The captain and crew were knowledgeable and helpful with any questions. During our 2 hour trip out on the sea, saw several pods of Humpback whales and their flukes were visible as they dove down. No breaching, unfortunately. That would have been an awesome sight.
No dolphins but lots of sea lions as well as a chance encounter with a Sun Fish, which we were going too fast to slow down and view.
A very pleasant trip out on the water to see marine life as it should be: open and free and untouched by humans.
Highly recommend the tour.

This is the second time in three weeks that we have gone out with them.
They go the extra mile.
We have seen so many whales and dolphins and other marine life. We’ve learned tons of things.
These people are great.

I’m so happy we took this boat whale watching! We bought the groupon and it was well worth it and more! Laura was very knowledgable and super friendly! She loves her job and it shows! We saw serval whales, even though it was out of season! Also saw some dolphin, jellyfish, otters and sea lions! Trust me, you won’t regret taking this tour!

My kids treated me to a Whale watching trip for my birthday. we went yesterday morning on the 7 am Sea Goddess trip. It was wonderful, we saw so many different and wonderful species.
We saw lots of whales and had great views of their flukes when they dived.
There were lots of interesting birds and seals and sea lions and sea otters.
I was particularly thrilled when we were joined by a huge pod of common dolphins who rode the bow wave.
The crew were great! Laura the naturalist was very knowledgeable and interesting and good fun too.
Oh and the donuts were delicious and much appreciated as we had to leave the hotel too soon for breakfast.
We have been before from Monterey which was great, but the exciting wildlife watching began straight away on this trip as Moss landing is right by the underwater canyon.
I can’t tell you about the cabin as there was far too much to see outside, but the boat was beautifully kept and clean.

Great crew! My girlfriend and I went on the 7am boat — Go early for less chop, go late for less fog. We saw the usual — seabirds, sea lions and otters, along with some humpbacks, dolphins, and even jumping tuna!
The captain gave us a smooth ride, and the marine biologist gave some interesting insights into the animals. All in all a great tour!

We went on the 9:30am tour today and it was fantastic!
The sign-​in process was easy. They offered free doughnuts & coffee. The weather was perfect. We saw so many humpback whales up close, spotted dolphins, sea otters and sea lions. Bora — the tour guide — was knowledgable about the marine animals.
My husband and I had a great time and captured good photos/​videos. Highly recommended :)

Met the Sea Goddess gang (@MontereyWhales1) for a day on the ocean, 9÷20÷2015. My companion and I saw a few dozen Humpback whale tails (flukes) as they dove down to put the Om-​nom-​nome-​chompskys on some anchovies. One whale even breached & did a cannonball. Show off!
Sea Goddess employees a fantastic naturalist who has her B.S. in marine biology. This was a great experience all around. We even got in on their $ 35 introductory groupon that they began offering in ⁹⁄₂₀₁₅.
Do go. You won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely perfect! This was by far the best whale watching trip I have ever been on. The whole staff was nice and helpful. They answered all my questions and were very knowledgeable. We saw whales right outside the harbor. They knew right where to go! They also got us so close to huge pod of dolphins! I highly recommend whale watching with Sea Goddess!

Unglaubliches Erlebnis! Buckelwale, Delfine, Seelöwen und Seehunde — alles in etwas mehr als 2 Stunden! Das Meer war bei uns verhältnismässig ruhig, es musste sich auch niemand übergeben. Kann es jedem weiter empfehlen — es ist jeden Cent wert!

FANTASTIC BOAT. The crew was made up of down to earth folks that really seemed to know what was out there and shared lots of good facts. The deck hand was gentle and assuring with the sick woman inside the cabin. The star of the whole event was the whales. They really put on a good show for us and the captain was able to stay with them.
Be sure to get allow extra driving time. The two lane road does get backed up and you won’t want to miss the trip!!!

We went out on the 12:30 excursion yesterday. It was a beautiful day and not much wind.
The boat is nice and clean. We stood in line and waited as the boat came in with the earlier whale watchers. As soon as they got off we were able to board. What’s funny is that people try to get to the front of the boat and get a seat but you really might want to get near the edge because you can get crowded out and what happens is when the whales are visible, they are either in the front, left or right side. I stayed on the right side and did get to see a lot of whales spouting, tails, and the best of all — an entire whale jumping out of the water and landing of it’s side. It was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever seen!
I only had my phone camera, however, I suggest you bring one that can be around your neck and have it handy because I missed a lot of good shots. I kept my phone in my purse because I was afraid I’d drop it in the water which ended up happening to someone else :(
Wear comfortable (closed) shoes because the boat rocks a lot and you need the stability and safety.
Wear layers.
Bring your own water and snacks. (They have 16.9 oz bottles of water for sale @ $ 2.00 each but nothing else for sale)
Take Dramamine a good ½ hour before you get on the boat (I got the non-​drowsy and it worked just fine). I don’t think they sell Dramamine there so don’t forget to buy some beforehand.
Eat some protein before too. My understanding is it’s supposed to help you not get sick :)
Bring a hat and sunglasses
Bring a hair clip or scarf if you have long hair.
Ear covers or a hoody would be good if you have sensitive ears (because it can get windy).
Get there early to pay for parking ($ 7.00), sign in, etc.

Yesterday I went on my first whale watching excursion and I was lucky enough to pick the Sea Goddess team to take me. It was a perfect day. The owner checked me in and had a bit of spare time and showed me all kinds of wonderful sea life he had filmed that morning on his iPad. The crew were super friendly. The first mate/​deck hand was always chatting with folks around the boat. The naturalist really knew her stuff and gave us all kinds of fun and interesting facts about the sea life and the Monterey bay itself. And the captain was great.
Right out of the harbor we saw whales and sea otters. For the first 45 minutes we never went more than a couple of minutes without seeing whales really close to the boat. Then the captain headed way out into the bay. The first mate said he was looking for dolphins. I don’t know how he did it since there weren’t any other boats out there to tell him where they wee, but he got us right into an amazing pod of probably 50+ needle-​nose dolphins. They were everywhere for a good ½ an hour.
The weather was as perfect as could be. Warm and sunny with almost no wind. I was still glad I had my jacket though. On the way back in I used the toilet and it was super easy to use and exceptionally clean.

I’ve been on a several whale trips at Moss landing so far and I know every trip there is a lot of luck involved, but there also quite a lot of skill and technique incorporated to provide the viewers the best experience. As we exited the harbor immediately we saw some whale, but while other tour boats were right near the whales, we for some reason stayed in the distance… After that we spent a while just looking at them. The lady captain did not really changed her position much to get a better view, get next to the whales route. I understand we shouldn’t bother those beautiful creatures, but I’ve seen better techniques… After we spent some time getting farther to the sea and we encountered quite a few Dolphins pods. Now, on my previous tours we had the captains go a little faster, turn to make it more attractive for the Dolphins to swim in our wake. This time the captain kept a steady slow speed which resulted in very brief Dolphins swim next to the boat. Usually this sighting is the easiest to take pictures of, but I heard many people didn’t get the chance.
The boat is very clean, well kept, and nicer than other boats uv been on. But I go there to experience the whales and sea…
We took the 9:30 am trip and were told to arrive at 8:45am and said that the boarding is at 9:10. We boarded at 9:22 and went out to see at 9:53. Docked at 12:05.
And they gave us doughnuts! Which was very nice since I didn’t get the chance to get any breakfast…
