Specialties

Fharzana teaches Indian hands-on cooking classes out of Old Mountain View in the Bay Area that focus on North and South Indian dishes. With her help, you’ll overcome the challenges of cooking Indian dishes at home. Each class has a full menu that may include appetizers, main courses, and desserts — anything you cook, you eat at the end of the class.

These classes are great for date night as couple’s cooking classes, as a team building exercise, for seriously learning to cook real Indian food, simply for fun, and as a creative gift idea.

You’ll actually roll up your sleeves and make the dishes in each class! This isn’t a show where you watch her cook. Guests end up picking up extra knowledge on knife skills, how to shop for fresh produce and meat, what ingredients are safe and why, and what kitchen gadgets are worth investing in. I Heart Curry offers pre-designed classes, but Fharzana also works with you to custom design a class for you or a group with dishes that you want to learn.

History

Established in 2011.

San Francisco Bay Area is very diverse. There are so many Indian restaurants that offer a variety of great Indian dishes. Even that isn’t scratching the surface a little! South Asian cuisine is very broad; there many traditional dishes that you can’t find at the restaurants, and there is a lot of space for creativity. Fharzana knows how to cook many North and South Indian dishes — she set forth to teach some common and uncommon Indian dishes to those that are interested in learning to cook Indian food at home.

She will teach you the recipes, explain why certain spices go well together, and how to understand each spice, so that you yourself can be creative soon enough! Her goal is to teach you to cook awesome Indian food at home, nothing like the greasy restaurant food that is often full of oil, cream, and other taste enhancers.

Hi there!

My name is Fharzana — I am the founder and culinary instructor at I Heart Curry. I have been cooking for over 15 years. I have spent quite a bit of time learning to cook, I have made mistakes, and have made some delicious food. I know how to teach you to cook; I know the challenges you’ll face, the questions you’ll have, and the solutions that you’ll need. I am from North-East India and my husband is from South India. I have mastered both North and South Indian cuisine. Learning to cook has been such a rewarding and satisfying experience for me that I love teaching everyone around me how to cook and eat well (and right).
