I’ve lived in the Bay Area for about 15 years about anytime I have gone to the local hardware store with a tricky lighting need, I have always heard «you’ll need to go to Stanford Lighting, they are the experts». Well I did that today for a couple of things I am trying to solve and I sadly left feeling rather disappointed by the service. Just a whole lot of «don’t know, don’t have it, can’t help». I walked away thinking that I would have been better off with Google, some judicious online ordering and maybe a trip to Home Depot.

Stanford Electric handled the installation and inspection for a 240v outlet for electric car-​charging. I had already gotten the permit myself. Their electrician Russ was professional, knowledgable, and skilled. He answered every electrical question I had. His workmanship was meticulous and breaker panel relabeling was neat. He even installed a breaker that had some extra ports and recommended an energy-​monitoring solution. It’s always great having Russ work on our home because I learn a lot.

Don’t be deceived by the size of their show room – Stanford Electric Works has an amazing selection of light fixtures. You can order from several brands. I recently worked with Ramon on a big house I am remodeling. Ramon was extremely patient, always answered my calls or followed up with me – and he even helped me decide which lights would look good together. He knows the inventory very well, just by my description – he can pull out a catalog and show me exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you Ramon!

I brought in a backup battery system for a sump pump and they were able to replace the worn-​out batteries in 3 days! Very prompt and excellent service!

I place an order for a light fixture xmas gift which would be ordered from Europe and place an order for a part to repair a lighting system at work. I paid in full but was called promptly to be informed that the light fixture was backordered for months. I cancelled the order since I need the fixture sooner and asked for a refund to my credit card. The parts order I did not cancel. Months later I called to check on the parts order and it was not done. After 2 more calls, no one again had placed the parts order. Also, I had to call my credit card company to get my refund on the European light fixture which i discovered was not done as I had requested several months prior. Working with the electricians on other jobs on location is great however.

These folks provided excellent advice, helping me navigate the complicated world of LED lighting. I will continue to work with them due to their expert advice.

I’ve had a couple of under-​cabinet fluorescent lights die on me over the past two years, and have been happy to discover Stanford Electric as an efficient option for getting them replaced. In both cases, they set an appointment and were able to come replace my light fixture in under an hour. (The other option is to replace the ballast, but this turns out to actually be more expensive in my case than just switching the fixture.)
Actually just had a third light go out this week, so called them again and am in the queue. I think they tend to spend more of their energy on larger jobs, so sometimes you have to be willing to wait a couple weeks for a time window to come available. Nonetheless, I’m definitely finding this preferable to either (a) flailing at the the installation myself or (b) paying a generalist handyman to learn it on the job (which I’ve done once before and would prefer to avoid).

We are re-​doing our kitchen and decided upon using commercial LED flat panel fixtures. All I can say is that Geoffrey at Stanford Lighting has been the most helpful, kind, supportive and efficient sales person I have ever encountered — in a rather long life of buying stuff. Thanks Geoff and thanks Stanford Lighting. We will be back.

Stanford Electric Works is a great place to shop with an excellent staff who is very helpful. They do go out of their way to help you find what you are looking for.
Easy parking as well as next door to Bauer Lumber, which is another great place.

Great selection and great people — Paul has been AMAZING to work with. Even when we’ve had a few issues, he’s walked us through trouble-​shooting, replaced broken parts, etc.

Took in my old halogen pole lamp trying to trouble shoot whether I had a bad bulb or a faulty lamp. I had mentioned I was leaving town in a week so if they took more than a few days to look at it, I would have to get back to them in 3 weeks. To my surprise, they finished 24 hours later and replaced the socket and it works fine! Price was reasonable and service couldn’t have been any better. Definitely my new place to go!

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They have helped us in our renovation to convert to all-​LED lighting, advising about color-​temperature and color-​rendering-​index specs that helped us to get the quality we were looking for.

I highly recommend Stanford Electric. I have been wanting to replace my fluorescent light bulbs and Chris took time to listen to to my concerns and spent time explaining possible solutions to me. Russ (their electrician) came out to my house and was extremely skilled, professional, patient, prompt, efficient, and friendly.

Nice staff in house, great techs. They did a really nice job rewiring some antique lamps from my grandparents, and a great job replacing ballasts in my kitchen.

I couldn’t be more impressed with how well and how quickly Stanford Electric Works renovated a 45-​year-​old brass table lamp I inherited from my parents. The shop had all the parts in stock and was able to completely rewire the lamp in only two days. All the parts match, so that the lamp retains its vintage look. I thought the price was reasonable (about $ 87) considering the lamp’s age and value. Would recommend this heritage local business to anyone wanting fast, quality work.

I can’t say enough good things about Ramon, the general manager at Stanford Electric Works. We recently had our kitchen remodel and the city where we live has serious and complicated lighting regulations which comprise of how much low energy light vs incandescent light allowed. I was totally frustrated with the codes. Ramon was of BIG help in coaching hubby and me on selecting light fixtures (which goes with what), which was a lenghthy, boring, frustrating, and somewhat hopeless exercice for some, including myself. Ramon’s deep knowledge of the products, friendliness, and patience were what we needed. I gave his professionalism and integrity an A+++. I hope anyone who is facing my kind of issues gets Ramon at Stanford Electric so that you can get your problems solved.

Prompt, courteous. Electrician arrived 15 minutes after I called them. He fixed the problem in about 10 minutes. I should have called them a long time ago. The ceiling light fixture had been broken for months.

A few weeks back we discovered that the ballasts in the light fixtures in our kitchen went bad. When Russ from Stanford Electric came, he explained that we had something special because we had florescent lights that actually dimmed. Since these ballasts were not in stock anywhere, Stanford Electric called the manufacturer and ordered them on our behalf. Though it took about three weeks, Russ came back to install them. He also told us if ever we were to update what some good options were to save energy and $! The great news is we were charged for the labor portion only. Would definitely use them again :)

Bought a reasonably priced light fixture today from a clerk who was knowledgeable and tried to help me find an appropriate piece (rather than just an expensive piece). All in all a good experience.
