History

Established in 1993.

Russell’s became a restaurant after Hurricane Hugo wiped out Nance’s Restaurant in 1989. It used to be the upstairs waiting area and after the wave surge went through Nance’s the top part was taken off and placed on the ground. It was moved across the street to where it now sits as Russell’s. Russell grew up in a house behind the Wayside restaurant (previously the Hot Fish Club), which his family owned for 30 years. Russell and his Dad put this restaurant together and opened it in 1993. Started out as a little local joint, serving fresh Seafood and steaks, the way they did at the Wayside, with good food, service and personal attention to details it has turned into a booming business, mainly from word-of-mouth advertising. Russell is known to meet you at the door with a friendly handshake, introducing himself and welcoming you in. With the help of the kitchen staff that has been with us most of the 18 years (so far) in business and the great wait and bar staff, Russell’s is the best!
