Dayton House Resort

Just stayed 4 nights at Dayton House, Myrtle Beach, SC. Several families from our team also stayed here. Room was rather dated and had way too many pieces of furniture in it for the size. Had to continue to shift things around to make room for luggage, bags, etc. Upon arrival we noticed a horrible smell of methane coming from our bathroom. Sporadically throughout each day and night it became so strong not only in the room but also in the hallway and lobby. When we asked the lobby what this could be, we were told public works was working on the area nearby and had some issues with backup. Other families from our team were told the same thing. At points in the nights it became so strong I had to open our balcony door for fresh air. Not healthy to be smelling this! We also had to ask for towels after our room was cleaned the 2^nd day. Beds were made (not changed), but no towels or wash clothes left. Side view room means you must lean over the balcony and look between two buildings to see a sliver of ocean. Definitely not something you can sit on the balcony and enjoy any view except
of parking area or street (strip). Overall, this was an older outdated facility that has been attempted to be updated. You truly get what you pay for with an inexpensive rate comparatively. Thankful we were staying for a ball tournament and this wasn’t our vacation as it would have been extremely disappointing. Also, there is no swimming in the ocean at Myrtle Beach at this time… something in all honesty should be being disclosed to those booking any rooms in this area!

You get what you pay for. I read lots of reviews and was a little worried about staying here. Yes, it’s a bit dated, but the room was clean. New carpeting would be a huge improvement in both the rooms and hallways. Housekeeping was fine; front desk the same. Loved having the kitchenette. The location is perfect. We didn’t want to be on the noisier section where the boardwalk is. It was great having our choice of pools and my younger child loved the lazy river. The grassy area with umbrellas was nice, as was walking right out into the beach. I had no problems with parking.
Cons — Not sure how often the pools chemical levels are checked, but they were a bit cloudy. One of two elevators in our building was out of order. It was a pain to have to walk all of our stuff down 6 flights of stairs because the wait on the one working elevator was ridiculous. The elevators also need some ventilation. Not only that, but the hotel needs to invest in some more luggage carts. There are not nearly enough between all the buildings.
I would stay here again. I didn’t come to hang out in my room. I came to see a new city with my kids and have fun. We did that. If you want fancy accommodations, go elsewhere. Dayton House is basic and fit our needs. It was clean and comfortable at a decent price.

Rating this one star is probably a stretch. Only booked here because we saw 4 stars for it everywhere else. First off, early check in is not an option even when calling in advance. They were a half hour late in even letting us check in. The room is very dated. The microwave is missing a panel and has exposed screws on the outside. Thank goodness we don’t have children staying here. The wifi doesn’t even work. Next to no parking in the 4 lots they have available. In my opinion this is a half step above a motel and very over priced. Literally the only positive thing is the view we have. Would never stay here again and would never recommend this to ANYONE.

Stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel has direct access to the beach, a pool and a lazy river. Our room had a partial ocean view and a full kitchenette. This rooms are perfect for families at a reasonable price. The rooms were clean but outdated. There was never enough towels and at one point the front desk ran out of towels completely. I needed to take a shower right after swimming so I forced my husband to go down and not to return without a towel. This is a beach resort, after all, how in the world do you run out of towels? It was also only two of us, so I can’t imagine getting enough towels for a family. You also had to use your room towels at the pool, which we found very weird. Most resorts provide thick pool towels at the pool so you don’t waste your shower towels for swimming. We ordered food from the Yellow Umbrella snack bar one day. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and my husband got the chicken strips with fries. After waiting for over 20 minutes for our food, I discovered my burger was COLD after the initial bite. Had to walk all the way back and request a new burger be made. The hotel is north of all of the Myrtle Beach action and it’s about a 20 minute walk to the wheel. When it’s almost 100 degrees out with humidity, it feels like a lifetime! I do not recommend walking from this hotel with small children to restaurants/​wheel. Order Über. You will thank me later. ;) Overall, it was a decent hotel that was somewhat centrally located in Myrtle Beach. We mostly relaxed in the sun and swam the entire time we were there so it worked for us!

Well just for starters I’m not impressed, when booking online I was aware I was not getting a beachfront ROOM, completely unaware this place is separated into four buildings and they would stick me in the back one across the street. The bathrooms are also very small and all the appliances and the kitchenette are outdated. Will update.

We stayed only one night and found the room acceptable. The front staff was nice and found us a room an hour earlier than check in. The room us old, but we have seen worse in myrtle beach. It is a shore resort and we were pleased. The air conditioner does not keep the room cold enough, hence only 4 stars. The view, pools and beach access were wonderful. Would stay again.

We had a partial ocean view. The room was clean but needs updating. The bathroom was way too small. If you are taller than 5ft the bathroom will make you feel like a giant! The parking was across the street.

Lost our reservation Poor wifi. Have been here for a meeting and always something happens. Front office staff is very rude. Will not ever come back. Have been coming to myrtle beach for 13 years but the staff and manager at the dalton house have changed that

Rooms little dated beds were little lumpy but not bad slept well. It has a handy little kitchen area, pools were great they were clean and felt heated on the chilly nights, free parking, good customer service. No fancy restaurant inside plenty around though within walking distance. Did have little laundromat and free computer use to print those airline tickets… Rooms all had a nice view of the ocean :)) price was good :)))

Nice place to stay in Myrtle Beach! It isn’t «perfect» per se. It’s a little dated, but we stayed in the suites part. That includes a kitchenette, and a pull down bed in the other room. Great for families, a very short walk to the beach, nice hot tub, lazy river, wifi access, all amenities and restaurants close by. It’s a little pricey for what it is, however, considering I haven’t had a vacation in 6 years, and the fabulous ocean view from the 9^th floor, and hearing the ocean every night. well it’s not bad!

The worse!!! As always first thing I do when I walk into a hotel room is check the bed well one of the pillow shams had a yellow spot and hair that means they didn’t change it, room super dusty strong paint smell sand on the counter top where the microwave is located plus coffee spots, napkins from previous guest behind the night Stand, I had to grab soap and towel to clean everything my self. Nasty room 108 in front of the pool.

Okay. We were told to book here because our cheer group is booking here; so we did…
The pools and the views from OCEANFRONT are nice. Everything else is awful!!! I like to go to the beach and stay at a nice place, this place would not qualify. The facilities and rooms are just old!!! They could make some upgrades and this would be a nice place.
Paint; replace carpet; fire cleaning staff and hire a new one. Our room was disgusting! Smelled terrible, humid as crap, and dirty to the touch and look! Hair in the freaking bath tub… really…that is one of the easiest places to clean! I opened a drawer to unload our clothes… lots of hair and a freakin tooth flosser! You talk about gross!!! Our ceiling has this gross black stuff all over it. I will NEVER NEVER stay here again!!!

This hotel is dated, small, and a bit grimy. The four pools were heated and very nice, but that was about the only upside. There’s a short walk to the sand which is nice. There’s not much parking at all and the four buildings get a bit confusing. The grassy area had some litter and things that needed to be picked up. The rooms are decent but the shower curtain was gross. It’s okay for a one night stay but if you’re really looking to take a vacation, go somewhere else.

The price was awesome the view was amazing.
Clean but dated. Housekeeping didn’t leave enough towels but that was pretty much the only issue.
Location is great could walk to shops restaurants etc.
Parking left some to be desired but over all a pleasant stay.

Stayed here for two nights with my family. Right off the bat they couldn’t find our reservation, not a good start. When finally ended up getting a room. Not the room we wanted but same amount of beds so it had to do. I will say, the room had an awesome view of the beach! It’s nice that you can walk right out, but there’s a lot of surrounding hotel that looked nicer. It has a couple separate buildings and I had family members in the building next to ours which made for an awkward and inconvenient commute back and forth. Pool outside every building and it had two indoor pools. Too cold for the outdoor ones but the lazy river looked like it would be an awesome treat in summer time. They had a nice outdoor pool that appeared to be heated! Great view of the sunsets and sunrises.
The place wasn’t very clean. Each building has its own «lobby» area (staff not included). The difference between which building you’re put in is pretty wide. My microwave was about half the size of my family members’ and double the years old. Furniture and décor seems pretty dated. Wifi was suuuuuuper slow and didn’t seem to work at all in some of the other buildings. Wasn’t the cleanest hotel I’ve stayed in, but all in all is okay. Room wouldn’t be worth any of it without the view!

We knew we weren’t in for any real treat when booking a 3-​star beach hotel in Myrtle Beach. Figured it would be nothing more than an old Best Western-​style hotel much in need of a renovation. We booked it for the pleasure of being right on the beach, hoping that we’d at least get a clean room. We booked an oceanview suite — how bad could it possibly be?
Turns out, not terrible but I’ve certainly seen better places. In fact, just about every hotel surrounding Dayton House appeared (from the outside anyway) like it would be nicer. I was jealous of everyone around me.
To be fair, price was very inexpensive and you get what you pay for. Furniture was very old and outdated. Beds were not that comfy. The Wi-​Fi was terrible. I tried sitting out on the balcony with my iPad and a Straw-​Ber-​Rita and everything shut off. Well, so much for relaxation.
Parking garage was a nightmare. I was in a compact sized car and as I was going up the first very steep ramp, I scraped my axle on the concrete. Scared the living daylights out of me. From that point on, we parked across the street in one of Dayton House’s designated outside lots.
If you’re ambitious, you can walk to the boardwalk in about 20 – 30 minutes. Next time — if there is one — I’d stay closer.
Some positives: the beach area is very nice, the pools are nice, and the outdoor tables with the tiki umbrellas look nice. This hotel would suffice for a lot of people, especially those who want an inexpensive beachfront property.

Price was good and staff was good, the hotel was steps away from the beach. Have to give it a three because this hotel is very old I don’t think anything in it is from the decade.

We stayed in 3 bed efficiency. It was great for our girls trip– we were kind of a noisy group of 6 girls and the walls were thick so we didn’t disturb anyone. The hotel is clean and the staff is exceptionally friendly. A friend we were with had a raft she wanted to lay on at the beach– the front desk actually blew it up for her by hand (the air compressor wasn’t working at the time). The hotel is secure but laid back and we were able to pack a cooler for the lawn, pool, and beach. We had a blast!
Walking distance to free shuttle to Broadway, not far for adults to walk to Boardwalk (maybe too far for kids), beach is easy access! We spent most of our time at the beach– not the pools.

This is the second time we’ve stayed here. We loved it few years ago when we didn’t have toddlers to watch after. The room had wall to wall furniture. We had to rearrange the room to get a spot the pack and play. Our mattress seemed worn out on one side and I felt like I was about to roll off the mattress.
Also the stove knobs were on the front and in easy access of my toddlers. The table was for 4 people but there was no room to fully pull the table out to actually use all four chairs and table.
The outside pool had ALOT of sand in it and needed cleaning it was super cloudy.

Perfectly fine all around! In fact, we were quite impressed at what we got (room-​wise) for $ 80 a night. Two queen beds, a small kitchenette area and balcony right across the street from the beach. The location is unparalleled if you prefer a calm, quiet vacation. I took my parents away for a long weekend since my dad is retiring, and this was the perfect stay for beach time (paired with stunning weather!) and some all around fabulous golfing (Dayton is just 15 min or so from some lovely courses). The pool area is appointed with tons of chairs & umbrellas on the lawn, which adjoins the stunning beach. Going after Labor Day was another bonus, as the rates were low and there were practically NO kids around.
Overall, I’d certainly recommend a short stay here and would quite likely stay here again. It’s definitely a bit dated and «no frills» (and the bathroom is claustrophobically tiny) but clean, comfortable and convenient.
