My son and I take classes at Chang’s Hapkido in Naperville, right by the Jew-el over there. We’ve been doing it for a year and a half now, and it’s an EASY5 stars… as good as it gets. There are multiple locations(check out the website)… Master Chang, the owner, teaches at Naperville. It’s a real honor to have him as our instructor, and he is absolutely fantastic. He is especially good at working with and motivating kids and teenagers. Sessions are about an hour long. It’s a real workout! You also learn Hapkido holds and throws that can be used in self-defense. Finally, discipline is an important part of the lessons. You learn choreographed forms that demand specific, controlled movements. Another interesting thing that you will notice very early on… there is a real sense of camaraderie amongst all us Hapkido students. Everyone is very helpful, and we are all sort of going through the journey together. Exercise, self defense, discipline… all this is a real benefit to me, and I think it’s especially important in building self-confidence in the kids and young adults in the class. In going with my son, it’s been a wonderful father-son bonding experience for us to share. Master Chang is a unique individual and leader. It’s a real opportunity to have him as an instructor, right here in Naperville each day.
