Description

Specialties

The Olde Buffalo Inn is a large, friendly bed and breakfast located in the heart of Amish country in Nappanee, Indiana. Steve and I (Lucy) are the owners/operators. We have lived in this community our entire lives and love to help people find the areas hidden treasures.

We have 7 eclectically homey rooms, all with a private bath. I love to cook, and we bill our full, hot breakfasts as «worth getting up for.» Our most requested dish is Orange Almond French toast, served with local maple syrup, sausage, fresh fruit and homemade muffins. Or maybe I’ll be in the mood to make Heavenly Eggs and Apple Sausage Coins. Or how about Bacon Potato Fritatta?

I also love to garden. The house is surrounded by a large perennial flower garden. Check out the weekly garden and/or recipe updates on.facebook.com/oldebuffaloinnbb.

Steve is an antique dealer and will open his Carriage House and barn if you’d like to check out his primitive antiques and yard décor.

History

Established in 1995.

The Olde Buffalo Inn’s history began over 150 years ago. Built in 1840, the house precedes the establishment of Nappanee, Indiana in 1874. By the turn of the century it had acquired the name «buffalo farm» during a time when bison were raised by the farm owners.

In 1866 the red bank-barn was constructed. Along with more conventional uses, Amish families from the surrounding area held church services within it. The barn is 10,000 square feet of history, and you can still see ax marks on the beams and rafters. Other outbuildings followed the construction of the barn, including a windmill and a carriage house, in which Steve houses a small gift shop.

Today, the original farmhouse still exists, after having endured restorations three decades ago to preserve its historical character. At that time additional rooms were constructed to surround the original part of the house, together creating the 7000 square foot structure guests enjoy today.

Business Owner

Steve and I have been married forever. We have 3 adult children, 5 wonderful grandchildren and 4 grand-cats.

We began going to B&Bs about 20 years ago as a way to get away for a long weekend several times a year and grew to love the whole B&B experience. About eight years ago we decided owning a B&B would be a great way to be able to work together and Olde Buffalo Inn found us.

The 3 acre property has allowed me to give full rein to my passion for growing perennials and we have begun growing some of our own fruit. This year we picked many quarts of strawberries from our patch and have begun picking red and black raspberries. These find their way into the muffins and pancakes on a regular basis.

We love life and delight in meeting new people and hearing their stories. We look forward to meeting you!
