Antero Hot Springs Cabins

I’m torn! Part of me wants to give this the five stars it deserves, and part of me wants to keep it as secret as possible! WHAT a place! We had very high expectations for Antero, as we had heard good things and had been trying to visit for quite a while, and they exceeded our expectations at every turn! We stayed in the Cottonwood Cabin, which is absolutely adorable and more than big enough for one couple, or perhaps even two. Cute accents everywhere! Great amenities while being rustic still. BUT, let’s face it, we spent almost our entire weekend in the spring tub! It is beautiful, the perfect temperature, and bigger than I expected. We had plenty of privacy, although when you first pull up, the cabins might be a little closer than you thought. Not a problem at all! You have great fencing and more space than you need. I really can’t say enough good things about this place. A REAL GEM!

I set pretty high expectations for this place in my head and became worried I might be let down. That was not the case. My wife and I stayed in the Cottonwood Cabin for our anniversary and it was a fantastically relaxing 3 nights. The cabin itself is roomy enough and very quaint. The shower was a bit small but served its purpose.
The real treat was the hot spring. It was larger than the pictures led me to believe and very enjoyable. It was a bit warm at times but there is either cold water nearby or some snow to throw in to control it. We spent way more time in it than any hot tub or private pool I’ve ever had with a hotel or B&B. At night it was all starry skies and the peaceful sound of the nearby creek.
We will be back, it will be a task to try to out-​do this anniversary spent at Antero Hot Springs Cabins.

We really lucked out and were able to book the Hortense cabin for a couple of nights on short notice during this unseasonably gorgeous March. We loved it so much we came right home to book a cabin in Fall and they are almost completely full!
My experience with most travel accommodations is that their websites make them appear more spacious and idyllic than they are. However, the website for Antero doesn’t do the cabins justice: they are large, well maintained and filled with history. The springs for each cabin are clean, hot and beautiful. All you hear out there is quiet and the creek. The pricing is quite reasonable for the size and privacy.
The beds aren’t very firm, but if your back hurts you can always head out for a soak!

I really really wanted to leave a good review here! If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is not the place for you. The cabin is awesome, the hot springs are awesome, then come the dogs. You say, but wait, dogs are not allowed?! You’re right, they’re not… unless you’re the owner!!! What?! I have dogs, don’t mind dogs! Unless they bark at all times of the day and night. Not constant but at the worst times! Got out of the water both nights we were there due to dogs barking incessantly! They are not pinned up at all. They woke me up both nights I was there in the middle of the night, thank goodness I brought ear plugs! They would come and beg for food while we ate on the back patio area & used grill. They were pooping and peaing all in the snow around our beautiful cabin so our daughter couldn’t build a snowman! At two hundred and freakin fifty dollars a night, that crap shouldn’t be happening!!! And by the owner no less??? Couldn’t believe it, will NEVER be back, I’m sure you already knew that! And after paying so much I think it’s a little tacky to ask for housecleaning tip when it’s the owner that’s cleaning. And of course there’s a $ 25 fee if you don’t clean the kitchen yourself! Wow!!! wow!!!
So if you’ve got some people who don’t mind it’s not quiet and you guys are ready to party, perfect for you!!! It’s a killer setting!

We stayed at the Cottonwood cabin and were only able to get it booked for one night. If you are considering this place it would be nice to stay at least stay 2 nights. I did use my phone GPS to get me there and it took us around the back side down a county road and to a dead end of a a private residential drive. If you are like me and have become helpless without GPS just know that it is just past all the Princeton Hot Springs hoopla on the left side of that main road (at least our cabin Cottonwood was). I could have stayed in the water all day; the pool was large and clean and the atmosphere very tranquil. The hot springs water also does not smell like anything which I really liked. I liked the atmosphere because it was like stepping back in time with minimalist decorations and I don’t even think there was a clock radio. The place was very clean and comfortable. The hosts have thought everything out, there is a beautiful quartz fireplace, a propane stove, an electric blanket and plenty of space heaters about the cabin. I was warm and cozy the whole time staying here.

This might be a great place to stay, but the people are heartless. We had paid reservations, and a week before we were supposed to stay here we had a health crisis, as in heart surgery, and could not make it to the hot springs. Would they consider rescheduling? No. We will never make another reservation with these people.

We stayed in the lovely Hortense and could not have been more pleased with the cabin. The cabins are lovingly maintained and decorated simply, which is a great improvement on the typical clutter one usually sees in rental cabins.
The private hot spring soaking pool was the real star, and was worth every penny of the cabin rental fee.
As for practical matters, there is no television, but there is a local land-​line phone. An adjacent shed holds plenty of fire wood, and there are stoves/​fireplaces in almost every room. Salida is a quick 30-​minute car trip, Buena Vista is about 20 minutes away.

Oh Antero, I do love you. I just wish everyone else didn’t love you too! It’s so hard to book a cabin!
The cabins are amazing. I have stayed in the smallest of the cabins with my parents and husband. We were all comfortable. Just know that when you go here, the mission is to relax. There is no TV, no computer, no phone. It’s fantastic. You can do all sorts of day adventures in the towns and mountains and the river surrounding then come back at night, cook up a great meal then soak in your private pool under the stars. That, to me, is a perfect get away.
