History

Established in 2007.

Rick Bern specializes in everything from CEO’s to celebrities, Red Sox to Runway, while maintaining his personal commitment to donating time to philanthropic foundations including Pitching in for Kids, Geared Up for Kids, ALS-​TDI, March of Dimes and a number of other amazing organizations.

The studio has grown over the years to now comprise an elite team of a dozen highly trained and artistic event photographers who are widely recognized as some of the top wedding, bar/​bat mitzvah and corporate photographers in New England.

Business Owner

Photography is my third and final career. Previously I was a psychiatric social worker who after several layoffs in the 1990’s turned my people skills toward become a recruiter/​trainer for 9 years. Upon settling back in my home town of Boston, my wife challenged me to pursue my passion and long time desire to become a photographer. Luckily I took up the challenge and today I have her support to thank.

Most remarkable photographer ever. Tried a different photographer two years ago for our management team and pictures were so bad we never used the pictures. I am approaching the big 50 and was worried about wrinkles etc. I need not have been worried. I don’t know how they do it, but dare I say I actually «liked» my picture. Shocking. Somehow he makes you look better. Don’t hesitate — just call.

Rick is amazing. I really don’t think you can get a better headshot anywhere else. He made my husband and I look amazing! The photos ended up being so much more than a headshot. He’s great and fun to work with as well. Gives great direction so even if you don’t know how to take a good shot you’ll get up getting there! Highly highly recommend!

This guy is outstanding! Truly amazing. You always figure that the shots will be a bit better because they are a pro and have good equipment. Nope, this guy did headshots for our whole management team. They were wonderful quality and it was a really positive experience. He keeps everyone relaxed and it really makes a difference in the output. I would definitely recommend him.

I hired Rick and his team in 2010, 2011 and 2014 to photograph all three of my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah celebrations. I cannot say enough about how professional and friendly he and his staff were before, during and after the event. We absolutely love the pictures, but beyond that it was nice knowing that I didn’t need to worry about anything on the day of our events because Rick had everything covered. He helped me with the photo books afterwards, and was very easy to work with. Always a professional and a gentleman. If I could give 6 stars I would. I will definitely use him again. Highly recommend!

It’s evident in Rick’s portfolio that he is an excellent headshot photographer. He communicated well and the experience in his studio was great — I say this as someone who really did not want to get my headshot, but my company made me do it. Given my reluctance, the process was easy and the result was better than I expected.
I didn’t take the time to read his website thoroughly to really understand the pricing; my assumption was that it was one fee for the shoot and a photo. Rick has a fee for the shoot and then prices the photos à la carte. Like most things, you get what you pay for and I’m glad I went with him.

Rick did an awesome job making sure that I got exactly the type of photos that I was looking for. We took photos both inside and outside in order to capture just the right mood for each shot. I’m very picky about photos of myself, but Rick made it easy to get multiple great shots. In fact, I walked away from the shoot feeling beautiful. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I will definitely use him for my future photography needs for sure.

Rick recently took corporate headshots for our company, and I have nothing but great things to say about the entire experience. He spent hours with our team in the studio ensuring that we were each happy with our individual results, and that we had a great time during the shoot.

Rick photographs corporate headshots for our company. I was immediately impressed by the portraits around his studio: vibrant images capturing priceless expressions. The colors are rich and immediate.
Rick is an efficient artist. He prepares subject, setting, and equipment while maintaining a pleasant conversation. He keeps his subject comfortable while adjusting poses, expressions, and shooting angles. After helping his client select the best photos, Rick quickly and skillfully enhances the images in post processing. There’s no wasted motion in his technique.
As a self-​confessed camera geek he uses top of the line equipment to create images with amazing color and detail. Rick creates portraits that will become cherished keepsakes.

For too long our company (CloudLock) got by with whatever we could crop from a cell phone photo. But when we started doing high-​profile speaking gigs and events, we decided we needed something a lot more professional when it came to headshots.
I did a few quick Google searches and found a bunch of local photographers, but nothing perfect. After doing a Unilocal search for headshot photographer, I was lucky enough to find Rick Bern’s profile, and I’m really glad we did.
As a young company selling to enterprises, we wanted to both appeal to the big company crowd, and portray an edgy, startup style. Though seemingly a contradiction, Rick pulled it off with ease, incorporating our style, the character of the building we work in (exposed brick in the Waltham Watch Factory), and was able to keep 6 people with 6 separate opinions happy.
As someone who loathes having his photo taken, the idea of a photoshoot is somewhat of a nightmare. It may sound like I’m reviewing a dentist, but Rick was able to make a very uncomfortable situation not just tolerable but easy. And the work speaks for itself.
The guy is incredible, and I’d recommend him to anyone.

I needed a recent professional headshot. I tried to take it myself on a webcam and it was a disaster, so I looked on Unilocal and round Rick Bern. I scheduled a one hour session and met him at his professional studio in Needham, MA. He had all the equipment (different backgrounds, lighting, variety of lenses, large-​screen display to review photos).
Rick did a wonderful job. He tried out various poses, angles, and lighting. His personality also helped me relax and as a result my photos were more natural. Within one hour, he was able to take several photos, review the photos with me, process my desired photo, and send me home with the picture that I wanted. I would recommend Rick Bern, and I plan to return for future needs if I am in the area.

Looks like it’s all been said but, I’ll say a few things again: excellent photographer and great guy. I met Rick Bern at an event he photographed and he did a fabulous job on the event photos.
He also had a slide show running on his computer to display some of his work and it made me very sad. Sad that I didn’t meet him before I got married. If I had, I would have had him photograph my wedding for sure. (I’m still bitter about my wedding photos but that’s another story).
He also took some pictures of my friends beautiful babies and he did a great job — though he did have the advantage of some really cute kids to work with.
