The Spa At The Heldrich

First time here — the spa is within a hotel in across State theater. There is street parking all over, but depending on the time of day, or semester, it can be hard to find. Since it’s winter break, I was able to find spots. I happened to circle back and found a metered spot right in front. Someone must have just pulled out. Woohoo!
Got to the third floor and checked in with the front desk, filled out some quick paperwork, and mentioned I didn’t need the robe/​sauna facilities. That takes off $ 10.00. Waste of money. A robe should be included. It’s part of the spa experience.
A lot of chairs and benches throughout. The spa is longer than it is wide, and doesn’t feel very spacious. The main waiting area near the treatment rooms (four in total) is small. A bench, a table with refreshments, hard candies, Tazo tea packets (chai tea, chammomile, china green tips). Some stacks of magazines.
Originally I had called for a 30 min scalp massage and a 30 min reflexology. I wanted a Sunday, but it was hard for them to coordinate the time we wanted. So we switched to Saturday. Over the phone, I kept repeatedly saying that, for two people. And then at the end of the phone call, I reiterated several times, «Sunday from 12 – 1, scalp and foot massage for two separate people». The woman agreed with me. But then when I got called the night before for the confirmation I was a little confused because they only mentioned the 30 min scalp massage. I called back and confirmed a 30 min scalp AND 30 min reflexology. Again, she agreed. So I assumed that was in the system, and maybe the woman read it wrong during the phone call?
I come to my appointment early — walked through the doors at 11:50AM. Our appointment was at noon. They asked if our appointments were separate or a couple room. I said preferably a couples room, but separate would be fine if that’s all they could do. Soon 12 came and went, and around 12:15, they said we would get the couples room, but the people ahead of us had to finish up, and then the room needed to be prepped/​cleaned. I appreciated them acknowledging the time and explaining it to us.
Our massages were done by Nadine and Victoria. The scalp massage was different than any other I’ve had before. Nadine held my head up a lot by the base of my scalp, applying hard pressure with her fingertips. She bent my head forward which was a little uncomfortable. However, the pressure she applied to the rest of my scalp was great! It wasn’t too hard, but not too gentle either. Then she moved on to my feet. I loved that she actually worked on my calves and ankles a bit (very sore spots for me) with solid/​medium/​hard pressure. Felt so good! My husband wasn’t as enthused with his massage — he said there was a lot of holding of his head and feet, which he felt he could do himself. Why pay someone to do that?
The beds weren’t heated, but they were comfortable. Given that our massages were for scalp/​feet, we were asked how we wanted to do it — keep our clothes on or take them off to be more comfortable. Victoria was thoughtful and concerned about our relaxing experience as she briefly left to tell some women in the waiting area to lower their voices.
However, I felt the treatment was a bit short. Only 45 minutes. So I brought it up to the front desk, and there seemed to be some mix-​up and communication errors, which was a bit frustrating because I tried to be very clear on the phone. They thought I had a combined scalp and foot massage treatment for 45 minutes instead of two separate 30 min scalp/​foot massages for me and my husband, hence the 45 minutes instead of full hour. At least they charged me correctly: I would be super pissed if I got charged full price for a shorter service. (That’s happened at other spas before).
They only do phone bookings, so there is no physical confirmation via email to show what I have booked. It would be easy to rectify any confusion or mistakes right away if I saw it on paper. I really wish they would upgrade to a booking system. Then again, I understand that it’s a spa within the hotel and the majority of the customers are guests who probably call on short notice or do walk-​ins.
Regardless, the staff is very friendly, helpful, and communicative. they never gave any attitude, showed any impatience and were polite whenever we had a question.
Very clean bathrooms. No garbage or toilet paper on the floor. A pitcher of water available. The sinks looked a little cluttered, but I actually liked that: it looked like a lived in bathroom with all the products around and the blow dryers, little hand towels. To some it may have seemed sloppy, but to me it seemed like a personal touch.

This review is just for their mani/​pedi service.
I got a gift certificate to the spa for my birthday back in October, and decided to use it on a spa mani/​pedi right before I left for Christmas break. I scheduled a 10:00 appointment about 2 weeks in advance to be sure I could get that spot, as I was on a very tight schedule and wanted to be positive I could leave by 12:00 for a different appointment.
They called me to confirm the morning before, however that night (the night before) I received call #2 from the receptionist informing me that the manicurist had «something to do» on her way in to work, and had to push my appointment back to 10:30, but that she would give me a massage while I waited. This should have been the first and only flag.
I arrived at the spa promptly at 10:00 and was able to walk right in, however there was not a soul in sight. Literally, I could walk into every room, but there was not a receptionist or masseuse to be found. I waited 30 minutes before both the receptionist and the manicurist walked in. So much for my massage.
So I told the manicurist that I needed to be out of there by 12:00, and asked if we could scratch the «spa» mani/​pedi and just do a regular mani/​pedi instead. She insisted that she could do the spa treatment in time. I blame myself for for trusting her. Not only was she INCREDIBLY slow, but proceeded to take the tools out of her purse that she walked in carrying. Why they didn’t have any manicure tools at a SPA is completely beyond me, and probably unsanitary as well. Long story short, I didn’t end up leaving until a quarter after 12:00, with paper flip flops on my feet, wet nails, and nail polish all over my fingers. For such a pricey spa I would not recommend this service to anyone. Go to your local nail salon, I can guarantee they do a better job.

The Spa was very nice and the staff was very friendly. I cannot recall my massage therapists name (possibly Victoria?) but I had an 80 minute package and it was wonderful. She missed no spot on me including toes and fingers!
I am giving them 4 stars because for such an «upscale spa» in a hotel, there was no relaxation room and they do not offer you water at the end of the massage. These may seem petty but considering I have had massages at chain locations and small private salons, the relaxation rooms and lemon water usually given afterwards really adds to the whole tranquil experience.
Also, if you don’t feel like throwing down an extra $ 10 just to throw on a robe for a few seconds and walk to your assigned massage room, just ask them to skip it. Waste of money in my opinion.

I won a gift certificate to the spa and finally got a chance to use yesterday. This was truly the best spa/​massage experience I have ever had. I chose the raindrop therapy massage since it wasn’t something I had tried before. This was very cool because my massage therapist took various oils and sprinkled them along my spine and feet. Then she applied hot towels to the areas and did a regular full body massage. Julia was my therapist and she truly knows what she is doing. Receptionist was very friendly and accommodating and made me feel very comfortable. Spa had a very relaxing atmosphere and I wish I had more time to hang out after my appointment. When I can afford it I will be back again!

Went in for a massage and had an overall good experience. Unfortunetally left on awkward terms.
The massage was given on a heated table under blankets. Which was great until halfway through when I asked for some water. I got grief from the lady who gave me her bottle of water she paid $ 1 for. I would have waited for a cup.
Afterwards when I went to pay I declined to add a tip and she gave me a death stare. $ 75 is a lot for 55 mins.
Like I said it was a great massage but the professionalism is lacking. It felt like it was her massage and I was inconveniencing her.

I am new to Unilocal but not new to the Spa at the Heldrich. I always enjoy my facials with a sweet young girl, Julia who is very professional. She has been doing my micro derm facials for about 2 years now. The spa is a relaxing place with mellow spa music, a sauna, and lockers. Looking forward to my next facial with Julia.

It’s was my second time there and it was just as nice as the 1^st time. Nichole did a great job on my 55min massage. I asked her to go a bit deeper and she did just that. I did a couples massage for my 3 yr anniversary. my hubby enjoyed his massage as well. The massage got 5 stars but the hotel brings it down to 4. I wish they had a jacuzzi, the pool area is ok. I also wish the waiting room was a bit bigger with comfy chairs. Besides that I enjoyed my visit.

Nicole was amazing! She did some work on me yesterday and I have never had hands like that before. She didnt talk and just let me do my thing. She is my dream woman

Would like to give more stars but the receptionist has too much attitude for my taste. I am going there to relax and want to deal with friendly people. Dealing with someone with a nasty attitude doesn’t set the right tone for relaxation. According to the reviews I am not the first person to mention this.

I went in for a bikini wax. The spa is on the 3^rd floor of the hotel. It was really quiet and they took me in right away. The staff was perfectly friendly and the woman that waxed me was sweet. The waxing was done the way it’s supposed to be done: no double dipping in the wax! So, I was pleased with that. She did a great job, and I left happy. When I first arrived, I was shown to the bathroom where there is a sauna, clean robes, slippers, and towels, a shower and other amenities. All very clean. Oh and lockers with keys for your stuff. Anyway, I highly recommend this place for waxing.

If I could give zero stars… I would. I arrived 30 minuets before my appointment time and the door to the spa was locked. No one was sitting at the front desk either (I could see the front desk thru the glass doors.) I decided to call the spa and no one answered. After standing for 20 minuets between knocking and calling the spa someone came and opened the door.
I was a little standoffish. I told the person that I was standing there for about 20 minuets. She was apologetic and brought the manager to me. The manager was not really apologetic and full of excuses. And she told me that I was early from my appointment. UMMMMMMM… isnt it standard practice to come early to a spa appointment. Anyway, I was still fired up but I tried to cool down. She led me to the changing room and said she would be outside waiting for me.
I changed and walk to the front desk. I asked the receptionist (who now appeared) if my room was ready. The girl must of just graduated from high school. She had bad bedside manners. She quickly responded and said, ‘I don’t know… I just got here’. That is when I FLIPPED!!!
I told the girl that she and the rest of the staff here are soo unprofessional. And I will not waste my money at this establishment. I changed. And stormed out. Luckily they did not have my credit card on file. Now, if the receptionist who made my appointment did his job properly, they would of collected my credit card information while booking my appointment. And they would of been able to charge me for canceling my appointment the day of service. oooooo welll. their LOSS!!! :-p

If you’re staying at The Heldrich, a visit to their spa is a must! After our wedding weekend in September, we decided to relax and pamper ourselves at the spa. Call ahead of time and leave a message if you don’t hear from anyone. They’ll get back to you. We got lucky and scored street parking, but if you don’t feel like fighting the parking, just do the valet. They don’t validate, but they should offer discount parking. I’m live in New Brunz and I agree; parking is a pain!
The Spa is located on the third floor inside The Heldrich. Upon arriving, you are promptly greeted and ushered into the locker room where you change into a robe and slippers. he staff is friendly and professional. The Spa, though small, was quiet, tranquil, and clean, not super high end, but beautiful and modern. They sell a few items in their shop. There’s access to the fitness center, which is included with any spa appointment. They also have a pool to relax in. My husband and I had facials and massages. Unfortunately, we were a little late, (my fault) so they were cut short, but both the facial and massage were super relaxing! Our estheticians and massage therapists knew what they were doing! I didn’t want to leave. They use natural/​organic products and after both sessions, my skin wasn’t irritated! Usually after a session at Massage Envy, my skin is itchy, so it was a nice surprise. Make sure you arrive a few minutes early to fill out some paperwork and don’t be late like we were!
If you need a place to relax, the Spa at The Heldrich is a great place to relax, rejuvenate, and pamper yourself. Follow it up with dinner at Christopher’s or any other nearby New Brunswick restaurants, a good night’s sleep in The Heldrich, and you’ll have an awesome weekend!

After lugging a 50 lb duffle, an insanely heavy diaper bag, dragging a wheeled suitcase and pushing a child in a stroller through two airports, trams and rental car facilities, my back ached. Since we were staying at the hotel I decided to book a last minute massage. The spa is small as some had mentioned and its not super luxurious. But it is relaxing and everyone at the desk is really nice. My massage was good– not the best massage I’ve ever gotten but certainly good enough that I would go back if I am in the area again.,

I’ve visited the spa many times. First of all, I’m not a guy that uses public bathrooms often but I can honestly say the men’s locker room is as good as it gets as far as being clean. The spa is very nice and the staff does a great job. Every massage I’ve had there has been very good. Staff is very friendly too. Definitely recommend it.
