Dance Quarter is a haven for dancers in the New Orleans area, especially those of us who thought our dancing days were far behind us, left way back in our high school glory days. If that’s what you think, how wrong you are! Get yourself over to Dance Quarter and check out their schedule. There’s something for every dancers taste– Tango, Salsa, West Coast Swing and much more. It’s even the home of the Les ReBelles dance troupe which takes on the vintage dance styles like the Charleston, GoGo and Can Can and infuses them with a French Twist — all to celebrate the empowerment of women. The 4 studios in the 2 story building are large and well lit and are available for rental for any type of artistic endeavor; from dancing to performance art rehearsal space, photo shoots and more! The owners and staff are super friendly and live to be creative. They may even inspire you to rent their space for something you wouldn’t have considered. I’ve even been to a wedding reception there! Parking can be a bit of an obstacle some nights but that’s just because the word is out that Dance Quarter has a lot going on. Check it out sometime their motto is «If you can walk, you can Dance!».

Love It! I’m thrilled to have so many options for dance in the city now and Dance Quarter is a great addition. There are at least 4 studios varying in size. Class variety is great. I personally love Dance Trance, but would like to try out some of their partner dancing sessions and Hip Hop. They offer space for private events, and have a wonderful café. Some of the floors can be a bit slippery, but I’m guessing this will change over time. Great Space!

Their address is actually 1719 Toledano, between Carondelet and Baronne. Great, simple space. You walk through the double doors and into the café space. It’s well stocked and they even serve hot food, like crepes for example. The day I went, I was going for choreography, though, so I had to bypass the café. I’ll definitely try it next time I’m in, now that I know it’s there. The dance space itself is well-lit and a very good size, deep and not too narrow. There are sitting areas on both the right and left as you walk into the room. The floor was decent to dance on, not too sticky or too smooth. The only thing I would have liked it more mirrors on the walls.
