Specialties

Not your normal Bed and Breakfast. The Five Continents is a reflection of the owners’ world travels and life experiences. Both the founding and current owners have lived in or visited five of the seven continents of the world, hence the name. Located just six blocks from the French Quarter down the historic Esplanade and close to the Race Track at the Fairgrounds where the world famous New Orleans Jazz Festival is held, the Five Continents is perfectly situated for a memorable visit to the «Big Easy».

A full, hot gourmet breakfast is served in our formal dining room according to the guest’s schedule. It is a two course event beginning with fresh seasonal fruit or fruit and yogurt, freshly brewed coffee or a selection of fine teas and a choice of juice. The entrée is truly a treat for the palate… Russian Eggs, French Toast with Carmelized Fruit, Eggs Sardou, Louisiana Shrimp Benedict, Crawfish Hash with a Baked Egg and Hollandaise Sauce, or possibly an Omelet to order.

History

Established in 1998.

The house is a two story Greek Revival Mansion with the original carriage house and a dependency. Built in the late 1880’s by Jean Francis Del Corral-Monent, it reflects a by-gone era in New Orleans history, enhanced with contemporary touches. Significant architectural features include the 14 foot cove ceilings that terminate in a delicate plaster shell motif, the original ceiling medallions and the original gasolier crystal chandeliers in both the parlors. The eight fireplaces, all with the original mantles and ceramic tile hearths are set into hard wood floors. The property became a B&B in the 1980s and has been named the Five Continents since 1998.
