History
Established in 2005.
The creators of BONSIGNOUR, Philippe and Maud Bonsignour opened this west village institution 1993 and sold it to their manager to move back to France, in the basque country with their two children. They came back in 2005 and opened 11th STREET CAFE, who became quickly another neighborhood institution, a real village mom and pop. In 20 011, they decided to open BAKEHOUSE on Horatio street and the west street where they bake artisanal organic bread and pastries on premise, and provide their baked goods to 11th street café and other business. Philippe and Maud opened BAKEHOUSE, a warm and beautiful space that is a bakery, a french bistro and a bar. The restaurant was built by Philippe and Maud, their kids, friends, the bartender, the baker… everyone jumped in. The couple didn’t have an architect or designer, they built up the whole space from scratch, furniture included.
