18th Ave Train Station

If you enjoy watching people hock loogies and snot rockets on the platform, you should check out this station.

Ehhhhhh it’s a train station. It does have some nice mural artwork on the wall, but they’re not pretty enough to make you forget about the droves of people getting off at this station… Seriously, how does SO MANY people live here? wtf?
Anyway, this neighborhood is becoming way less Italian and way more Asian, with the addition of several new Asian fish markets right at this train station’s doorstop. Which of course means disgusting fish smell from seafood rotting outside in plastic buckets. (Glad to be vegetarian.)
The station is normally kept somewhat clean, and on cold days they turn the heater on; note that you have to stand right next to the radiator to take advantage. They will notify you when a train is coming and give you more than enough time to get upstairs to catch it.

It’s been my train station for over 12 years now and there really isn’t much to say but I will try. The 18^th ave side always has a 24 booth operator in case you need help, along with the metro card machines.
However, I always use the 17^th ave side and there is no booth or machines there. that is a big negative for me because they should have at least one machine for each entrance. Other than that, the place needs to be cleaned up big time. Obviously, that could be said for all train stations in NYC.
The home of the N train, 2 blocks from my house. For me this is a great convenience. Outdoors can be both a plus and minus depending on weather conditions.

24 hour booth person, clean station, waiting area inside with seating — for the cold days, seating on the platform in 2 areas, nice view from the platform on the Manhattan bound side, nice stain glass art, on occasion you do see teenagers asking for a swipe in the afternoon, overall a safe station.

This is my home station or «stahp» as you guys say here. I have to agree with the two previous reviews, this is a pretty nice place to wait for a train but jeez, the D line wait can be long… I’m not used to that. The subway system in NY is much slower than my hometown so it’s taken some getting used to, but I kind of prefer the outdoor stations to indoor ones now because indoor ones tend to be so much dirtier and get way too hot. 18^th Ave is good location, but in the summer there always seems to be some construction that doesn’t allow for both directions to be open at the same time and then you have to take a bus or go all the way to Coney Island which is a pain in the a$$. This isn’t the fault of the station itself, but those bigwigs at the MTA so I still give the place a ⁴⁄₅ rating.

Wow just saw my station get reviewed so figured I would toss my 2 cents in. Been my station for 8 years now. My biggest issue is that this really should be made an express stop. It is right in between the two express stops (62^nd and Bay Pkwy) and actually more people get on and off here than at 62^nd by far. Its a pain in the keester when it goes express and you gotta get off at 62^nd and wait (usually this is when its freezing out).
The good thing is the constant «no Manhattan bound on the weekends» seems to be easing. It was so annoying to have to keep going to Coney Island every time I wanted to go to Manhattan. I sweaar Markowitz was behind this figuring people would just get out in Coney and spent their money there. Another issue with the station is when the Coney bound trains let out at rush hour everybody goes down the staircase to the right, even the people that end up crossing that way anyway. Stop being lazy and right brain dominated people!
Other than that I cant complain, it’s my station and love it or not Im stuck with it so be it.
