A&S Foreign Exchange

A great find thanks to fellow Unilocal reviews. I did my due diligence and esear he’d the current exchange rate online. Went to my bank and they were offering me € 20 below. I went to A&S and got only € 8 euro below. Big difference. Quick and super friendly service with a smile. I will be back and refer any friends that travel that this is the place to go!

Purchased Euros with my USD. This place had the best rates and the guy working the booth was friendly. Couldn’t ask for more in a currency exchange place. A+ !

Located inside a souvenir shop, A&S offers relatively good foreign exchange rates.
Waiting time was rather fast. The guy handling the currency exchange was friendly & professional.

Best rates on foreign exchange. Usually a couple of percent higher than that day’s bank rate.
Quick and efficient transaction.
This has been my go to place for foreign currency for three years now!

Used them twice, both times great. Priced around for Euro (12÷28÷15) and this is what I got:

Omnex: 1.12 (plus fees for transactions under $ 300)
CXI: 1.168 (plus fees) — this is the place in those Apple Banks
Choice Forex: 1.185
Don’t listen to those other sites, this place actually does have the best rates.
And as for customer service, who cares, you’re saving a lot of money. It’s one dude in a glass booth within a souvenir shop — sometimes he’s late. Just don’t wait until the last minute, otherwise you’ll redirect frustrations because of your poor planning.

Abraham is my man! Whenever I’m lucky enough to get to travel, I look forward to exchanging money NOT solely for the excitement of having different currency in my hands, but because I get to see Abraham every time. This is one jolly, funny guy and he’s as nice as they come. There’s pretty much no profit made for the exchanges.
Recently I went to him to exchange some money to British pounds, and because I noob-​ed and forgot my other bank’s debit card at home, I couldn’t get more money to exchange for Euros for the other part of my trip. So a few days later, I come back with more money to exchange, and the dollar became a few cents weaker than the Euro, this may sound like no big deal, but when you’re exchanging hundreds, we’re talking about the cost of a few street food meals. Abraham was so kind to give me the rate it was when I went the previous day, which came as a loss to him. Bless his soul! There’s no one else you can go to, if you like keeping your money, he is the go to guy!

I only use this business to exchange money in NYC. Always the best rate and no crowds.
I’ve used for Mexico and Europe. Highly recommend.

These guys are more expensive than TD bank. Also rude, he hung up on me because I asked if he could do a better rate than the bank.

Never again, A&S is truly A$S, I went there because it’s 4.5 star reviews and close to where I live. This time Unilocal fails. The owner is so nasty and rude.
I wanted to do get some Baht for my Thailand trip. 2k Balt should be good.
Some reviews said there was no fee which is misleading, there has to be service fee for them to make business, but I got charged for almost 18% Just for fees which is ridiculous. For USD to Baht is 1 to 35.5, so for 2k Baht should be $ 56.35. After I told him I wanted 2k Baht, he said it will be $ 66.71, seems to me it’s a little steep, I opened my phone to double check the rate, he got really upset and aggressive, starting to lecture me that he had to pay a lot for currency to mail out from CA, kept going on saying” how much you think I am making huh?” I was desperate to get it done and get out, I said fine. I accepted the charge for $ 66.71.
Coming next was the most NASTY DISGUSTING thing a business can ever do to a customer. He said «Let’s round it up to $ 67». Then he manually changed the total to $ 67 on his computer, I was literally thinking to myself what the F? It’s not OK even it’s a dime, that’s not the way to run your business. Before I decided to step out, I told him no need to wrap it up I got the exact change, he saw me digging in my purse getting the change, he said «fine just give me 66».
So gross that I swear will never ever go in there, I took the 2k Baht and stepped out, on my way back saw a currency exchange place within Apple Bank, out of curiously I went in there ask the lady how much is for 2k Baht including everything. She told me it was $ 63.88. I took a business card from there. Guess it’s better to call to get a quote before you go so to make a better decision!

Supposed to open at 9.30 went there at 10.40 he was not there. Shop owner said he should be in 10 – 15 mins and had no reason for why he was late. I waited 20 minutes he still had not shown up. I spoke to shop owner again he said to call him on the number on his card. I did and went to his cell phone no answer left a message. Waited 20 more minutes no one showed so I left. It has now been all day and this person who works here still has not called me back. Lucky I didn’t wait any longer!
According to shop owner he told me the guy worked back 1 – 2 hours late last night. So that apparently excuses him not coming in 2 hours past when he said he was open. He hasn’t even called to apologize. I strongly recommend Omnex Foreign exchange on 33^rd. Guy there was great. Was open on the hours he was supposed to. Also charges no fee and has as good as rates.

Very good exchange rates for Euros and British Sterling.
The exchange booth is inside of a small souvenir shop with all sorts of New York memorabilia displayed all over the place. Look for the little friendly gentleman with white hair.

I came here first time, I usually go to the other place but Japanese yen which I was trying to exchange was sold out there, So I decided to go to this place because rate on Unilocal was really good.
Owner here, he is nice guy and it was really good rate and no fees!

Wow! I just got back from England and had a lot of British Pounds. I went to my bank and called other places but they gave me crap rates.
I got the best return rate here. Also, the man who works here is friendly and the transaction was fast and easy. Highly recommend.

Great exchange rate, super friendly service, and very conveniently located a few blocks away from Penn Station and MSG. The exchange booth is located inside a souvenir shop and is run by a very sweet, older gentlemen.
Remember to bring ID if you’re planning on exchanging more than a few hundred dollars. They ask for a SS card if you’re exchanging more than $ 3,000 and apparently are very strict about this.

Very speedy and efficient. I came to get some Canadian dollars, and their rates were a very reasonable 1.19÷1.27, much better than most other places like Travelex (ridiculous rates) or banks (fair rates, but they make you wait a week for even slightly obscure currencies like CAD). You can probably get better rates by withdrawing cash from a Scotiabank ATM using your Bank of America card in Canada (or using a credit card, even when there’s a 3% fee), but it’s always a good idea to have ample cash on hand before entering the country.
There are two Indian guys running this, who were both present when I walked in. I was served by the one not featured in Ernie P’s Unilocal photo; the one who served me seemed a bit gruffer than the one in the photo. But this is not a personality contest, this is a currency exchange, and as long as the rates are good I’m satisfied.

Abraham seriously gave me the hook up when I needed to exchange for British pounds and Euros for our honeymoon. Call other currency exchanges in the city, and I promise you will NOT find another place that comes as responsible, or as close to A & S. I called about five other places, and there rates were well below the amount you’d expect. How can you go wrong with a place that has a «People love us on Unilocal!» sticker on it?
Abraham made it clear that if I came back to re-​exchange my money back into USD, he would give me a comparable or better rate. He did say to only bring back bills, and that coins would be useless for people to buy; that made sense.
Don’t be fooled when you first walk in and think to yourself, «Why am I in a tourist shop?» Go right to the smiling man in the glass booth, and he will take care of it from there. He counts the bills multiple times, and even offers you to count it yourself to make sure there isn’t any funny business.
Did I feel safe exchanging over $ 3,000 in USD with this exchange? I did.
Would I come back? As long as Abraham is there!

Hahah this indian guy is funny. Walked into the shop and he’s inside this tiny booth. I had some colombian pesos that has been in my back pocket for like 4months because every airport exchange has just been a total ripoff or doesnt take that currency.
He was fast and my exchange was almost 18% more than any airport quotes. I would say go here for your major change. Wont regret it.

This guy is super sweet and friendly. He really helped me understand what the hell I needed. Lol… I told him how much I had and he told me the exact amount of euros and pounds. He totally went in that father mode and told me to double check what he gave me but to be discreet. Then right away gave me an envelope to put everything away.
I’ll for sure recommend friends to come here for currency exchange.

I called around and this place gave me the best rates. The market was trading at 1 euro for 1.06 usd and I got it for 1.10 per euro here. The man behind the counter was very friendly and even apologized for the wait. I came right after work so I already assumed there would be a wait since most people have the same idea. I actually felt bad for him because he said it has been so busy all day that he didn’t eat yet! He then proceeded to tell a bit about his life story about how he’s been doing the Forex business for 22 years and he can tell ethnicities apart and a few other random stories. Overall, great man, great service, will be back to exchange more.

Bought some pesos, the currency exchange rate at the kiosks were $ 1=12.45 pesos, I got $ 1 = 14 pesos here. SOLD! Pleasure doing business :)
