I purchased a living social certificate for balayage, 1:? They are cheap with the processing products = not many high lights !!! 2: the receptionist will mention over the phone while booking and while checking out a 20% tip on $ 395.

I am not one to negatively comment businesses on Unilocal but I was absolutely APPALLED by my recent experience at Aaron Emanuel. As a recent college grad, I was very excited to spend my graduation money on a new hair style. I purchased a Living Social deal for the balayage treatment package that included balayage color, deep treatment, a hair cut and blowout. Upon entering, I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist however shortly after my hair stylist (named Kaylie) was very rude and short to me and made me feel very uncomfortable. She told me that she was pressed for time since she had a client right after me and rushed through the process. While brushing my hair, she aggressively pulled my hair and when I asked her to be more gentle, she laughed me off. While washing my hair, she asked someone else in the salon to wash it and while my hair was being treated, I clearly heard the other woman say «she needs a couple of more minutes» and Kaylie said «No she’s fine. Rinse it out.» I am a client and I am a person — how dare you speak about me that way as if I’m not there? On top of this disrespect, many of the hair stylists were texting on their phones in front of clients and while my hair was being rinsed, I heard two hair stylists bad mouthing the clients. Where is the professionalism?
Just when I couldn’t feel more uncomfortable, I was asked to pay an extra $ 50 because I had «thick hair.» I read the guidelines of the Living Social voucher that there may be an extra $ 25 charged for longer and thicker hair. I have medium length hair and my hair was cut only two weeks before this balayage. In addition, Kaylie told me that I «most likely» would not be charged the fee since she did NOT cut my hair. The package included a hair cut. Since I just wanted to leave the salon, I accepted the extra fee but while I was tipping, another (very rude) receptionist told me that my tip wasn’t enough. Verbatim: «The cost of your balayage without the discount is over $ 350 plus the thick hair so your tip should be based off the full cost.» I had already tipped my hair stylist $ 35 even though I was on the verge of crying because my balayage had BARELY come out and I felt so disregarded by Kaylie. The receptionist watched me place more money into the envelope until my tip was at $ 60.
Although my hair itself is not completely damaged, I definitely would have to say this was the WORST experience I’ve ever had at a hair salon in my life. I will definitely be notifying Living Social of this experience and I hope anyone that reads this review will NOT book an appointment at this salon, especially with a Living Social voucher. It is not worth it– the people who work at this salon were very nasty and it is evident that they do not care about their customers. If you scroll through this Unilocal page, you will see there were many other customers who shared the same experience I did.

I got a cut and balayage by Luba. Thank you SO MUCH, I left with completely new hair. The ambiance is great, people are friendly and they gave me nice warm coffee on a Saturday morning. I will definitely be going back. Luba helped me pick the right shade and give me what I wanted by just showing her a picture I had taken. I was nervous because it was my first colour but Luba just made me comfortable and I got the feeling that she took the time to understand what I wanted.

I recently made an appointment for a Balayage service with Nora. Upon walking in to the salon I was greeted by the receptionist that quickly asked me to have a seat while she notifies Nora or my arrival AFTER a 30min wait I was wondering if I was forgotten especially since the receptionist had gone on her lunch break. While I waited patiently Nora walked up to me and explained to me that the receptionist FORGOT about me. As if she was not eating right outside the salon and saw that I was still waiting for my stylist. Once I got into Nora’s chair I explained to her that I was here to balayage my extensions and my hair. without no hesitation Nora said «We Don’t do that service here «. All I could think about is how was this possible especially if I booked the appointment via phone and confirmed about the hair services. I was so taken back especially after being told that my travels to the salon would not hurt my pocket especially if I work or go to school. I replied back to Nora I still waisted my money and time heading to this salon when I could have gone elsewhere. LONG STORY SHORT they waisted my time and was very unprofessional ! If u must make a appointment at this salon make sure they don’t play games over the phone or for get about you while you wait for your stylist.

Best blow-​dries! I love the way they can create natural, yet chic wavy looks… Will certainly come back!

I used the living social coupon and the staff was so nice and attentive. They gave me water and magazine right after I sat down. I met my stylist Luba and she is THE BEST!!! She was very knowledgable about balayage, ombré and highlight and answered all my questions. Gave me great advice to vote against blonde but caramel blond balayage and it came out AMAZING! My friends are all telling me my haircut and color look super expensive. 5 stars for great service, amazing Luba my stylist, the best color I have ever had! See it yourself!

Using LivingSocial coupon to discover this gem of hairsalon in Upper East Side. My stylist Jehona was amazing. Very Pro and knows very well her job. I got full balayage, haircut and blow dry for $ 99 so she could have gone fast and easy on me. But she really did her job for 3 hours and the result is amazing. I feel like i am 16 again (though i am 40). The colors are exactly what i was looking for, the cut is an easy care one as i don’t blow dry myself.
Would definitely recommend this salon. It is small in size but big in knowledge/​customer service.

I use lifebooker often to book salon appointments, so that is how I found this salon in Yorkville. I had a haircut and blowdry with Nora and highly recommend her. The young lady that washed my hair was new but thorough and very friendly.
Nora took the time to review what I was looking for in a cut and we ended up having a lovely conversation.
The salon is very clean and I was offered something to drink. It seemed like they had a number of regular clients there and it was buzzing already on a Friday at 10 am.

This was probably the worst haircut I’ve had in a long time. Didn’t realize it at the salon after they curled my hair. But I normally wear my hair straight. There are so many uneven chunks throughout. Thinned the bottom out way too much. Didn’t follow sample photo that I shared. Stylist was Ardian.

I absolutely love this place! I came in with a Livingsocial voucher. It was easy to make an appointment. Once there, they made you feel relaxed and welcomed… they even offered wine/​tea/​coffee… My hair stylist, Arsen, was very professional. He explained everything about the hair process and what needed to be taken cared of (I had dry brittle hair– so he suggested this conditioning to go along with the balayage). I showed him the picture I got off Pinterest of how I wanted my Balayage color/​tone to be and he was able to re-​create it! I would definitely recommend this salon!!! Arsen, thanks so much!

I actually first came to Aaron Emanuel — after finding/​reading Unilocal reviews, and have been a returning client since. During my first appointment, my stylist, Jahonna, really took the time to understand what I was looking for, and did a fantastic job communicating during the process. I AM VERY PICKY about my hair, and was even a little nervous to let a new (to me) stylist take over — but I cannot express how happy I am that I found her :)
During my visit today, I hardly had to explain what I was wanting from my appointment… and the fact we have established a relationship like this, just makes the visit that much more comfortable.

I bought a deal from livingsocial for balayage and hair cut for 99 $, which is a pretty good deal. Livingsocial states that additional fee of $ 20 to $ 25 may apply for EXTRA long or EXTRA thick hair. I was charged 50 $ for neither very long, nor very thick hair! How did Kaylie come up with 50 $ instead of 25 $ idk. And I didn’t tell her anything, because I am a shy person. I always blame myself for this, but I do not speak up! I believe that charging more then the deal says is an indication of a dishonest business. Also, «in order to save my hair» she HIGHLY recommended me to use olaplaex, which was also 50 $ extra. Totally I paid 210 $. As majority of people say, you end up paying extra then the offer.
My hair turned out pretty good, but not what I asked for. they use a good products, overall experience was not that bad, probably would not recommend this place, only because they try to fool you.

I came here with a living social deal for balayage, cut, treatment and blowout. I have medium length hair so they didn’t charge me extra. However, for the balayage Kaylie charged me an extra $ 100 for single process. Because I had old highlights on my hair. I thought she was gonna color my whole head brown to match the pictures that I wanted, but she made it dark. The head basin was horrible! My neck felt like it was going to fall off. The process was also a bit rushed however we did go over time. I didn’t get the full 20 min hair treatment because she made the girl wash my hair after 5 minutes. The blowout was wonderful !!! I didn’t get the color I wanted because she said blonde would not go well with my fave color however I’ve seen a lot of people with blonde hair and similar skin tone. My hair doesn’t look anything like the pictures that I showed her and it just looks like strips of highlights :(
Before buying deals, I suggest you go to the store for a consultation because you end up paying extra!

Went back for a haircut. My GF had called in advance and given her card so I would have a nice haircut for a Bday present.
They had no card number, and no recollection of the conversation and were fairly snotty that I even asked. I would up just paying. This place has A+ hair stylists, and F– management. Very frustrating.

I just had a Balayage and cut with Jehoan, and let me tell you she’s incredible! I brought in pictures of what I had wanted and she not only nailed it but also had an incredible understanding of what my very fine hair needed, and the results have left me beaming. She took time with me, she explained every step of the process as well as the questions I had asked her, and was so easy and fun to spend time with.
I’ve always been disappointed with salons in the past, especially with leaving feeling like the stylist didn’t listen or understand what I was saying. This is the first time I’ve had a flawless experience, and it’s safe to say that Jehoan will be styling my hair from here on out.

Used a Living Social deal to get ombré plus haircut, blowout and conditioning for $ 99. I was a bit skeptical because I’ve seen the vouchers posted so frequently, and the place is pretty small with a young staff, but I was happy with their services. I had Johona, who was very sweet and knew what she was doing. I had originally requested something with a bit more contrast but she advised on something more subtle, more like balayage than ombré. Overall I’m happy with the result, and she did it in a way that will grow out well. This is quite a good deal– if you want ombré/​balayage I’d definitely recommend it.

I did a last minute decision (walk-​in, sans appointment) to cut about 4 inches and change my hair from brown (natural) to a medium blonde balayage style. I LOVE it, and so does everybody else! Arsen did an amazing job styling my hair, too. I am very, very happy! $ 275 for haircut with balayage in my case (with the Unilocal check-​in coupon). Very much worth it. I had not dyed my hair in like 3 years. I needed this so much! Thank you!

UPDATE (08/​07/​2015): Their manager Ana reached out to me and welcomed me to come back to take a look at my hair. The owner Aaron placed lowlights to tone down the front and blend it out. It turned out exactly how I originally wanted :) I would consider giving them another chance seeing as how they were concerned with reaching out and correcting it. While I was there, the other clients getting their hair turned out great so I think the quality of their work isn’t questionable. Thanks again for taking the time to see me!
Pretty disappointed.
I went in on Saturday, stylist was nice (to start), told her I had a voucher, and wanted balayage/​deep conditioning/​cut/​blowdry. I showed her what I wanted and off the bat she said it would be too light and shocking for me. I trusted her judgment and told her to do what she thought was best. No problem.
Color-​We ultimately agreed in caramel, it didn’t look like it to me. The body of the hair looks great, but the front has two odd streaks. I mentioned to her if she could fix the thickness of it, that it looked chunky. She immediately got an attitude, said she gave me what I wanted, that is what balayage is, and started to explain what balayage was for the next 5 minutes. I knew what it is and I wasn’t questioning her job, but I was asking her to simply fix the framing of the front (see picture). She placed a toner all over my hair to tone the color down (not what I had asked) and left it like that. She kept saying «I’m so glad I didn’t listen to you because then you would have been really unhappy, I’m so glad» (again, I wasn’t questioning the color — just the front). She was very upset and I didn’t leave in love with my hair – which is what should be the ultimate goal.
Cut/​blow dry – cut was great, she did a great job in keeping the style I had and did a great job in styling it.
Deep conditioning treatment – I’m pretty sure I didn’t get that unless that’s what the toner was in lieu of.
Overall, I had high hopes for the salon and I was ready to make it a permanent choice. But me speaking up got me a lecture in front of everyone, customer (me) was wrong – which should never be the case, and I still left unhappy with a streaky front. Unfortunate.

I loved how my hair turned out at the end, it wasnt perfectly what I wanted therefore I would give that 4 stars.
My total experience inside the salon was 3 stars.
Therefore the total stars I would give to this place would 3.5 I am giving it total of 3 stars because I think over all experience is very important.
Some things I did not like about the place which would make me hesitant to go back.
I made an appointment for 1pm. I am not refuting that I got there late. However, when I got there my stylist Kali was working on two people. She told me it would be just a few minutes so I waited for 15 minutes. I decided to get a sandwich because it seemed like it was going to be a long day…
She finally got to me at 2pm… which I was a little upset about, but whatever I was just focused on getting the hair I wanted in the end.
I showed her pictures, and she explained to me that there is a supplement because it would take a longer process to achieve what I want. Fine. How much is it? She said 150 dollars. In my opinion I think that is excessive. Not sure why I bought the living social deal because at the end it pretty much comes out to the same rate which I am pretty annoyed about. Ive gotten ombré done before.
I felt like I did more waiting than getting my hair done. And the head basin where you shampoo your hair is probably the most uncomfortable one that I have ever used. I dreaded going there. Thought my neck was going to fall off.
After it all I finished at 7:15PM. but my hair did turn out great in the end.
