Blo Blow Dry Bar

This was one of the BEST blowouts I’ve ever gotten. I booked the appt. last minute for a Saturday night slot. First win for Blo — open late on a weekend. It seems that so many salons close early on the weekends! Anyway, I was running a little late, and they were very accommodating. When I walked in, i was greeted by a few stylists, then introduced to Michelle. From the beginning, it was a wonderful experience. We talked about music as she washed my hair, and I knew it was off to a great start. I have pretty curly (but manageable) hair, so the fact that Michelle was able to seamlessly tame it without having to use a flat iron was awesome. Most of the time, a stylist doesn’t use enough tension so my roots end up frizzy or my hair isn’t fully dry when I leave so the blowout ends up being a waste. Michelle styled it so perfectly, that through my 10 block walk, my hair still looked flawless when I got home (and into the next day!) I will 100% be back and will book again with Michelle!

Booked an up-​do with Priscilla on a recommendation from a friend for a Gala dinner that I had. Having pin-​straight hair (bc of Japanese straightening) I was skeptical that they could give me a «Breakfast at Tiffanys» looks. Priscilla is a perfectionist and she was wonderful. My hair looked amazing and I had a great event. Will def be back to treat myself to a different look for a night out on the town. The champagne is a nice touch too!

Blown away yet again! Was walking by the salon and figured why not see if they can squeeze me in. They look a little busy but the lady at the desk let me know it would only be 5 – 10 minute wait. By the time my coffee was made, the stylist was ready for me. She blew out my hair with beautiful body. Love this place!!! Thanks girls !

This place BLOs.
The girl put in the big rollers, blow dried it (burned my scalp 1x) and then unrolled it and, yea, that about sums it up.
We discussed I wanted — round brush twirled around to make it wavy/​curly and depending on how it looked, maybe some curls and the flat iron on the baby fuzz — I picked the big volume curled look from that book. When she was done unrolling/​hair spraying she just had her hands behind the chair with a look insinuating «ok…you’re finished.»
Speaking of the chair… I sat in the chair 2 from the back — the girl had me facing the wall/​walk space the entire time so I had to constantly keep moving my feet in so people could squeak by — nonetheless I could not see what she was doing, which was putting rollers in.
So, the results? Frumpy. I had to go home and flat iron the baby fuzz in the front and the roller waves were already gone by the time I got home. All I had were flipped bottoms, which is no feat. You couldn’t tell I got my hair professionally done.
*To top it off the girl at the receptionist desk was probably the least friendly person I’ve ever come in contact with.
I can’t speak for the other hair stylists or others who work there, but I was 0:2. They were surely not professional and surely would not return.

stars are for how my hair looked afterwards, but not necessarily for the overall experience. The salon is small, and although it appears clean and well decorated, something about it felt outdated. The hair washing basins are awkwardly set up so that the stylist must stand next to you while washing your hair– not behind you like they usually are. It was kind of weird, especially as she’s reaching over me to wash the other side or my head.
I had also asked for a cup of coffee, which i promptly got, but after one sip, saw a little black hair on the side of the cup which really grossed me out. Then, as I’m looking at one of the brushes she was using on my head, i realized that it looked soooo worn out and was missing a bunch of bristles. You’re a hair salon. You should at least be able to keep up on brushes with bristles intact. The blow dry was fine, but as she was doing the top of my head, which i asked for extra volume, she was drying zoo close to my head that it got painful and felt like she was burning my forehead. Additionally, i felt numerous hairs being pulled from my head as she was brushing through. Not planning to run right back there. Theres so many blowout spots in the city, i wouldn’t go back to an ‘eh’ one. However, i did receive a few compliments on how my hair looked.

Ann and Cynthia did a fantastic job– ann did a beautiful fishbone braid on my niece. Cynthia did the Hollywood on me. According to my niece, I looked much younger! I’ll take that! Thank you!

I will vouch for Sarah who expertly blew out my daughter’s hair, which is quite a curly mane, to the pin-​straight hair she has always wanted to see on herself. Never once did she scorch my daughter’s hair, pull too hard, or become frustrated with the many tangles she had. She was patient, she was perfect.
The receptionist made me a fresh cup of coffee and it was a very nice experience.
I might add that I have held a cosmetology license since 1981. I was very impressed with the operations of the salon. Would definitely revisit.

Came here to get my hair done for engagement photos. Told the stylist I wanted curls and volume, which I thought would be pretty simple since I do this myself at home regularly, but just didn’t have the time and was hoping that having my hair done at the salon would make it last longer. She washed my hair then started sectioning it, and proceeded to blow dry the sections straight, then curl them with an iron. Once she did the first section, I explained to her that my hair never holds curl after it’s been blown straight but she assured me that the way she does it and with the spray she would use it would stay curled, so I let her proceed. Less than 30 minutes after leaving the salon my hair was almost completely straight with the tiniest hint of curl at the ends, and no volume at all. I was extremely upset that my blow out was a waste of money and I hated how my hair looked for the engagement photos. When I curl my own hair without straightening it first, it last several hours. Maybe they should listen to their clients.

I have read your reply, and you are NOT understanding or perhaps not acknowledging that your salon did not charge my credit card, but a relatives credit card for my service !! This is totally unacceptable, and cannot be part of your 24 hour cancellation policy to charge another persons card for a service that was not theirs! This was embarrassing and unacceptable. I will be reporting your business practices to better business bureau and as an owner i can say your response falls very short, & thats an understatement!

Victoria tamed my coarse hair and blow dried and curled it into a gorgeous look for a big event last night. They even took me last minute on a saturday. A great experience all around. My hair still looks awesome this morning!

I live next door and stop by once every couple of weeks for a blowout. The lovely girls that perform magical blowouts are very sweet and very talented; I stop by to say hello when I walk my dog; I just like them! They don’t mind having my pup there which is really wonderful for me.
My only complaint is NOT about them. They are fabulous. I did go in once to ask for a donation for a charity bike ride (we had a basket of goodies for the raffle) and the management wouldn’t even give a coupon (10% off or something like that). I have consistently bought their packages so I found this odd, but given the comments about the owner on Unilocal,I guess I see why.
I went to my normal color/​cut salon and they gave me a free blowout instantly.
Definitely use their services and tip well!

The first time I came in, I was walking by and saw their sign for $ 30 Blow Outs on Monday! I walked in and they could take me right away. My stylist was very nice and gave an amazing shampoo. I usually get my hair blown straight but i decided to add some curl this time. She did such a good job, I loved how my hair turned out! I came back the following week and again, was very pleased with my blow out! This is my new therapy!

Avoid. Against my better judgment, I decided to redeem my Gilt City voucher for a blowout here (I had bought it before all the negative reviews appeared), and I should have just skipped out.
First of all, the girl who curled my hair burned my scalp at least half a dozen times. Most of them I just winced and held back the pain, but once I actually had to Unilocal out because it was so hot.
Then when it came to payment — I had specifically called in while making my appointment to make sure that my Gilt deal could be used to the full. I booked the appointment well in advance before it expired, and I was told that Blo Blow Bar would still honor the full deal because I was redeeming it before the expiration date — I’ve done this with a few other places, all of which have honored the deal. But when I went for my appointment, I was told otherwise — that it was after the date and my voucher had expired and I could only has half of it as credit. Not at all pleased that I had to pay an extra $ 25 for a painful blowout.
Will not be back.

The hairstylists here are great, no doubt. I especially recommend Priscilla.
However, I recommend NOT purchasing a package. I made that mistake. Unaware of their ridiculous policy that you cannot reschedule or cancel an appointment more than twice, they charged me for one of my package purchases. Please keep in mind that I am an excellent customer, it is the holidays, and I also was very sick — rescheduling happens. I am very disappointed in their management and will continue to discourage friends and family from frequenting this institution.

Stylists are great. They really give you what you ask for and their blowouts last a long time.
The management, however, is a very different story. I was given a package of blowouts as a gift, only used once and three have been taken off. I called to ask why and their response was more or less asking me if i forgot that i went? They said they would take care of it. Welcome to three weeks later. They are so very rude, too.
I will not renew when my package is done. But The stylists are BOMB.

I will give them 2 stars, because the stylist, Sarah who did my hair was very sweet. That being said, I was disappointed by my experience. Sarah sat me down in the chair prior to washing and asked what look I was going for. I explained that I wanted soft curls. I took my hair down so she could see what she would be working with. I have long soft wavy hair.
She washed my hair and asked how I wanted conditioner (whole head or ponytail) and I told her I would defer to her expertise, but I usually only conditioned the ponytail. Once I was back in the styling chair, she asked what products I wanted to use. Again, I told her I would defer to her expertise. I would think the stylist should know what products would be necessary and appropriate depending on the individual customer.
I was faced away from the mirror for the duration of the blow out. She only told me that the curling iron was not working with my hair, and asked if I would like to try a flat iron. I told her yes. She specifically commented to me that my hair was very soft, and she was having a tough time with the curls. I’ve had my hair curled on multiple occasions at other salons and this has never been a problem with other professionals.
When she was finished, it looked nice enough, although the curls were only on the lowest portion of my hair (maybe only a few inches from the bottom). She also recommended to me that I get a perm in order to change the texture of my hair, which I found mildly insulting.
I live 10 blocks away from this Blo location and by the time I walked into my apartment, the curls had fallen and I went to my event with straight hair (which I could have done myself, for free).
Sarah was very sweet, but I think she should have known what products were necessary to achieve the look I was going for.

I was skeptical at first, due to the mixed reviews but I came here anyway out of desperation and a lack of a curling iron/​hair dryer. Anne did my hair. I asked for the Hollywood but with less volume, loose curls. I have VERY LONG straight hair and she opted to blow dry first, then twirl and pin my curls rather than using a curling iron. The final effect was not bad, given the rainy day. I asked for a little bit of hair spray to hold, which she did use. Overall, it looked A-​OK. However, I have done better with my own blow drying and curling iron skills. I would say, if you’re in a bind for you hair to look good — sure, it’s not bad. If you’re looking to look like a knock-out…perhaps this is not the place for you.

I have been a DryBar loyalist for a long time, so I was skeptical about trying this place out, but getting a weekend appointment at DryBar on short notice is practically impossible. As it turns out, Blo may be my new favorite blowout spot.
Sarah was incredibly nice and did a really terrific job. I absolutely loved my hair (classic blowout with a little extra volume), and when I asked out using some hairspray to ensure my ‘do lasted until the wedding I was attending that night, she generously offered to put my hair in pin curls to avoid the hairspray crunch! Talk about going the extra mile. My hair lasted four days, and I will absolutely be going back and requesting the same stylist.

Let’s start off by saying what more can a girl ask for than being offered a glass of wine upon checking in and enjoying it while someone else does your hair! Having no idea how to style my hair besides wearing it straight, I decided to give this place a shot before a night out. I have naturally wavy and very fine hair so I am not used to having curls stay in my hair for more than an hour without totally falling.
My stylist promised me these curls would last all night. and they did! She started out by making tight curls and then explained she would run her fingers through it and separate them in order to make the beachy waves which I desired
I was beyond happy with how my hair came out and it even looked great the next morning after sleeping on it. I had such a positive experience and would definitely come back here and maybe try to catch on to a few tricks on how to do my hair myself!
