I love the idea of this place. Service is first class. But I’m not happy with the the belt. Very poor quality leather. It doesn’t weather well at all … it started looking crappy almost immediately. I’m also not sold on their method of thinning the leather to attach the buckle, and the permanent rivets they use.
I’d suggest looking at handmade belts from small makers that sell direct. Look for full-​grain leather (typically bridal or harness leathers) and buckles attached with snaps or Chicago screws. I got a great belt from Orion Leather for 2⁄3 the price of the Badichi. Incomparably better quality, but of course no instant gratification.
The best thing about Badichi is that you can have a custom belt fitted and made in just a few minutes. And if you shrink in the middle, they can resize the belt for you quickly and for free.

It was after work and at first I thought oh another belt store that just specializes in belts. But then I looked at my waist… beltless– and my self in the window reflection: a slim mid-​20 single entry level/​grad student nobody, maybe I could use a belt. So I walk in and wow… a cute woman selling belts, of all different kinds. At first the price was beyond my means for the one I wanted but a little crafty-​ness and ingenuity, switching the parts up here and there, thanks to the belter, resulted in a more affordable one. I’ve had it for 2 weeks now and I can’t complain, shows no wear yet, unlike all other belts, so already off to a good start! And now I feel like I am rolling with the big dogs at work. Properly belted, 26 year old, entry level, 4th year grad student, athletically framed, almost eligible guy, ready to put on some weight, roll in some dough, help save some lives, and make some magic happen!

I’m going to start off by saying the chick who helped me and my friends pick out the belt was awesome (Moroccan), but the prick sitting behind his desk pissed me off. When we were about to pay, he asked us if we wanted to not pay sales tax. He said that if we liked Badichi on facebook we would have sales tax waived. First of all, NY exempts sales tax for clothing under $ 110, which began in April 1, 2012. The fact this guy basically lied to us and said that he wanted facebook publicity for something we should have gotten (which is the law) pissed me off. This is why NYorkers get a bad rap, they always try to out hustle you. I immediately called the guy out on it, and he asked me, «Who do you think you are? The IRS?» I said no, «I’m just a law student at Columbia.» I hate doing business with dishonest people. BTW if you do get charged sales tax (
) you can even check the website I posted which is NY state policy on clothing tax exemptions.

Yeah, I’m sold on the concept. Went in here to buy a gift for my wife… and the girl in the shop was super friendly, nice and helpful. She had just spent the last few years in France studying, so we spoke in French, which was cool. David the shop owner is obviously super committed and passionate about his store, and is really nice to boot. So the customer experience was fantastic.
The belts are amazing… you basically custom design the belt, choose the buckles, the belt, and snaps, loops, and cut to size. The designs for the buckles can be unique, like wearing a work of art. I’ll post pics of the belt we designed, but needless to say, my wife is absolutely happy with the gift… as it’s pretty unusual, unique, and the cool factor is like, 10⁄10.

Super-​attentive service from someone who obviously loves what she is doing for a living. Truly interactive shopping experience, discussing what my pairing options were going to be for the belts I was looking at, and a lengthy review of a spectacular buckle selection. I think I found a sommelier of belts here…
A quick and precise fitting led to a quick and precise construction/​assembly of my chosen belt and buckle, and a testfit confirmed that an artiste had completed yet another splendid work.
No — it’s not cheap, but quality craftsmanship and attention to detail rarely are.

Stumbled on this place while roaming around SoHo. Now I have a custom made belt from NYC! They have a wide variety of straps and buckles (some are custom made pieces of art) and the fit of the final product is perfect. Be aware that it takes about ten minutes to put together each belt even though she said it would only take two.

Really cool place with super service. They have other leather goods too — for example I got a really nice quality wallet. I also liked that they didn’t push or upsell or anything like that, not even about the $ 10 off 2nd one promotion.

I’ve been thinking that I should get some new belts for some time. I’ve been looking at stores for a few weeks, but every belt I saw was super expensive, ugly, or bland.
I walked out of Balachi this afternoon with 6 new belts. The staff was very helpful, and it was a painless shopping experience. I just said things like, «okay, and then I want a black belt that I’ll wear with a suit, and it should have a nickle buckle.» Or «okay, now one that I’ll wear with jeans and boots and it should have a more funky buckle.» She suggested a few options, I made a choice, done.
They have a great selection of belts (maybe 60 belts to choose from) and an even larger selection of buckles.
Then, after you pick a belt and buckle out, they wrap the belt around your waist, cut it to size, stamp the rivets, and you’ve got a custom belt. Each belt that I bought was about $ 65.

This place is awesome, its a small store where you make your own leather belts. You select the leather belt by color and size that you want then you proceed to pick a buckle. Buckles vary from the classic to the rocker, I even saw some western styles. Prices of the actual buckles are anywhere from $ 30 to like $ 300. The buckles located on the wall are a bit more costly because its based on a particular style.
The whole concept of this store is awesome. Once you picked your your leather and buckle, they measure you and cut out your customized belt. I went with someone that ended up getting two belts and I purchased a leather cuff. Some bracelets are starting at $ 45 and some bracelets are on sale. Leather cuffs are $ 100 each.
The salespeople were very knowledgeable and they were ready to help pick out a style of belt. The leather seemed to be really good quality, the best part is that you have a belt that you created.
