Blow On The Go

I have used «Blow on the Go» over six times and has been a great experience each time. Not only are they professional and always early to arrive but my hair looks fabulous and I don’t have to leave my apt to go to those «overpriced» blow out bars in NYC. I also have never had a problem booking– not sure what everyone is talking about. I can’t wait for my blowout next week!

I wonder if Tara Decoda and her «company» have been called in to the Better Business Bureau yet?
I would love to preface this with a disclaimer that I am, by all accounts, rational and fair. Look through my Unilocal reviews – I’m not one of those serial bad Unilocaling fools.
That said, this is probably one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had by a service professional. Granted, I know this «blowout» (in air quotes, will explain shortly) isn’t saving lives. I feel silly even for this diatribe about HAIR.
I did buy a Gilt City (though I shouldn’t be held in plebeian status because I bought a deal) for 3 at-​home «blowouts» — please note the word «blowOUT» and not «blowDRY». In the fine print of the Gilt City deal it states: «[Blow on the Go Professional] will come with all the tools necessary to deliver just the look you want, whether beachy waves or pin-​straight strands.»
For all intents and purposes, this would imply that someone, as I’ve experienced with GLAMSQUAD, MG HAIR, PRIV, AMONG OTHERS, would arrive to wet hair, you blow dry it (perhaps with a round brush), and it can include, say, a curled look using a curling iron. Paying extra for an updo or intricate fishtail is perfectly reasonable.
The woman who owns «Blow on the Go» arrived 20 minutes late. Her method of notice that she was arriving late was telling me RIGHT before the appointment via EMAIL (8am appt). This is after trying to book a month out (which is reasonable) with times like MONDAY, 7am; and WEDNESDAY 4pm as pretty much the only viable options. So I chose SATURDAY at 8am because why not? Friggin 8am is way more convenient than pm.
Anyway, she stated that the «blowout» DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY STYLING. Isn’t that a «blowdry»? I think a curling iron add-​on was $ 20. I was really pretty fed up at this point. Tara wouldn’t give me any refund, as she stated that in the confirmation email after you booked through the system, she emailed that «styling would be subject to an add’l fee». This is VAGUE — styling could have meant intricate updo or fishtail. Gilt wouldn’t honor a refund b/​c I had booked the actual appointment past the 3-​day (or so) window to get a refund, which is kind of unreasonable, since not everyone schedules blowouts within the next 3 days if it expires in a few months.
I had to then use my voucher another time, begrudgingly (she negated the 1^st visit and counted it as a blowout since she came and left), and did a blowdry with my hair. Once done, I asked «ok, thanks, can you hairspray it?»
HER: «Uh, do you have hairspray?»
ME: «You didn’t bring hairspray?»
HER: «Do you have hairspray I can use?»
[Dejected, with straight hair with a tiny curl from a rounded brush at the end, I went to get my own hairspray from the bathroom]
ME: «Do you need any more products? [this was snarky, I admit it. I already apologized in my head later]
HER: No
She sprayed my hair with my product and left.
Please, if you want to ever care about customer retention, please change your entire business model and customer service.

WORST BLOW OUT IVE EVER HAD!
Do not waste your money on this service. I am a very loyal enthusiastic gilt city user! I think they only provide deals that I know are going to be at places that offer incredible services and products! I had no fears in buying a guilt city voucher for «blow on the go» — but I have to tell you I was completely horrified by my experience!
The voucher says it’s for a blowout which typically leaves you with a shiny smooth frizz– free hair. I guess blowouts often and it always ends with me looking fabulous! The picture advertised with the Voucher even shows a girl with a beautiful wavy blowout.
When my consultant arrived she informed me all she could do was blowdry my hair straight. I understand that the voucher was not for styling, but this blow out was not a blow out by any normal standards. It was a crappy blow dry.
After 10 minutes max I was left with frizzy straight hair that I had to then style myself.
I made the mistake of booking this appointment before my rehearsal luncheon so I had to go to my wedding rehearsal and lunch like this.
Needless to say I was extremely disappointed in the service and I don’t feel is worthy of purchasing whether you have a promotion or not!

Unbelievable. Never showed and tried to blame us. We planned the whole night around her coming, turns out she never had an address. Then she tried to tell us she was buzzing our door.
⁰⁄₁₀ would not recommend to a friend.

I’m someone who usually finds my stylist through personal referrals, but I found Tara through gilt city and it’s been the best thing EVER!!! Reasonably priced, always punctual, and makes my hair look amazing every time. I can’t understand how anybody can have a bad thing to say about this service.
I will say most of the bad reviews I’ve seen, had more to do with policy and procedures then service or skill.
A tip, when buying through gilt, you must read the details, (i.e. Service zones, initiating voucher dates, expiration dates) and you won’t have half of the issues.
I would recommend anyone to try her out. Since signing up with blow on the go. This is the best my hair has ever looked.

I bought a Giltcity voucher for 3 in-​home blowdries, thinking this would be a good way to start having a weekly blowout at home instead of going to a salon.
The first one I used successfully. The second attempt to make a booking was rejected, on the grounds that I lived outside the zone. The zone, I discovered, stops at 96^th st (a fact which was not at all clear on the voucher). I live on 98^th st.
I am giving this service one star, because it seems to me, given that i live TWO BLOCKS (ie two minutes’ walk) outside the zone, and given that this zone was not mentioned on the voucher (It was mentioned over the page, in tiny print), that this is basically an excuse for them not to provide a service which I have already paid for.
In my opinion they should have honored the voucher. They did not make the exclusion clear at all– obviously I would not have bought it if I had known I was not in the zone. The voucher said «Manhattan», and I live in Manhattan. However, in any case, I am right on the border of their zone, so it is not as if I was asking them to travel to Brooklyn or the Bronx.
Also, for anyone thinking of using the service: it is quite difficult to get appointments, they are limited in availability.

I would not use this service because of the deceptive behavior of the owner if you have a Gilt voucher. It’s impossible to redeem and after being assured repeatedly I would be able to get the full value of the services I paid for (i.e. all blowouts on my voucher), due to this difficulty in booking throughout, she then cancels all my booked appointments that went past the voucher date. I had to go to Gilt for a partial refund.
Save yourself the trouble and use Glamsquad or similar if you want this kind of service but performed reputably.

It’s unfortunate anyone feels negatively about Tara, because clearly they have their own issues. She arrives on time (advises when she may be delayed), does a great job, and is significantly less in price and uses more professional products than would be used with a discount provider. My hair has grown like 4 inches, working with her, and I’ve NEVER had that with anyone. Also, while I am African American, her skill set transcends all races — which is a rarity these days.
I encourage you to try her and THEN make a decision. If you’re disappointed, discuss it with her and she will work to make it right. Her business hinges on her name and she takes that seriously.

I seldom write reviews because I believe everyone is human and deserves a second change. I bought 3 blow outs to use in 90 days. First, two of my appointments were cancelled (one an hour before and one three hours before) day of. I had events both days that I had to run out to get my hair done. First time the stylist was about 20 minutes late because she got lost. I gave both of these times a pass. Second time I had an appointment the stylist was almost a half hour late and in turn, I was late to my event. That ⁰⁄₂ in punctuality as well as cancellations. In a salon, if one stylist cancels usually there is an option to use someone else. As there are two people here the hours for options are very limited (often morning and daytime and no weekends unless you book very far in advance). I work late most nights and options for noon and 3pm for most working women are not options at all. The first time they cancelled, I received an extension on my 90 days. Now the second time, I can not use any time before it expires and I reached out hoping for decent customer service. I was denied after explaining the situation and the pretty poor past experience but got a standard response they could not accommodate. I can’t say anything positive about these experience. To add, I was burnt with the fan the second time but also kept this to myself. At this point I am beyond frustration and would like to warn anyone else to avoid «home blow outs» by this company. You will not have dependable service or at least an understanding experience.

Bought 3 blow outs on Gilt – went on line to make appt. they’re pretty much booked a week ahead so no spur of the moment blow out… I made an appt for week out I ran home and then was emailed my appt was cancelled as I live 10 blks outside of their area… I never saw this on voucher but could they have not informed me a week ago when I made the Appt! Its back to Dry Bar… at least you can get an appt within a day!

Tara was on time, and so lovely… Super fast and very professional. My blow out lasted for three days which was amazing!

Tara at Blow on the Go exceed ALL of my expectations. She is not only prompt and on time, but also efficient once she arrives at your home. She always makes my hair look amazing, and I am so happy that I have found her in the large pool of blow out options in NYC. I used to be a DryBar member until I found Tara. She is consistent, kind, and always a good time. I would recommend Blow on the Go to anyone. Do NOT hesitate to use her services because I mark my word you will love you hair!
