Blue Ribbon Bakery Market – To Go

Really confused by all the FIVE star reviews, really?
Extremely random and limited selection. Went in there with the intentions of getting a delicious breakfast pastry, and left with a plain ol’ ciabatta loaf.
Don’t get it.

I am a regular in here and feel lucky to have such a great place on my block. The staff is wonderful, and the food is always amazing.

Stopped by to pick up some baked goods on a Sunday afternoon. Very small shop with limited selection. Purchased their donuts, muffins, and chocolate chip cookies. All were average (aside from the above average pricing), which was disappointing since I’ve previously had good experiences at Blue Ribbon eateries. Wouldn’t return.

Friendly stuff, delicious bread… what else are you looking for?

I’m not fond of cake donuts, but these were deliciously light and fluffy. Yum! A little pricey at $ 3, but worth it.

Stopped in for a snack. The lady behind the counter recommended the buns. We got the artichoke and spinach bun and the pulled pork bun. The buns themselves were slightly sweet which was the perfect complement for the fillings.
The pork had a little kick to it thanks to the slice of pepper on it. The artichoke filling was perfectly prepared. If we weren’t in a hurry we would have gone back for a couple more!

What’s not to like? Fresh bread, delicious food, nice sushi, really pleasant staff. I feel so, so lucky that my office is near this bakery.

It’s hard not to like a bakery, and Blue Ribbon Bakery Market is no exception. The counter service was amazing, really friendly and welcoming. If you’re jonesing for bread, definitely stop by as that is the main focus of this bakery. I picked up two hot buns, one chocolate and peanut and one peanut butter and jelly. The PBJ hot bun was divine; I definitely would get this again. The chocolate peanut was less impressive and I don’t think I’d order this again, especially since the PBJ was so good. Aside from the bread you can pick up a limited menu of sushi, toasts, and salads here. Prices are not great ($ 4 per hot bun), but in line with the area. I was jonesing for sweets when I came in and there were only three or four sweet items, which I would hope for more of a selection at a bakery.

I went out this morning searching for a delicious egg sandwich and passed Blue Ribbon. They didn’t have exactly what I was looking for on the menu but both gentlemen behind the counter were so enthusiastic about accommodating me. We came up with an egg, cheddar, arugula, onion and tomato sandwich on toasted 9 grain bread. They even thought to add olive oil and sea salt which really did the trick. I sat back and sipped coffee, which is quality and enhanced by their top shelf dairy in the cooler, while the guys worked their sandwich magic.
The sandwich was absolutely on the money delicious and the service was unparalleled. The care they put into their craft makes this place a winner and certainly worthy of another visit. Given how tasty my sandwich was, I can only imagine that their menu delivers as well.
Oh, and the total ($ 9) was perfectly reasonable for a tailor-​made sandwich, a great cup of coffee, and a fantastic start to the day.

Good & reliable! limited items

I have often walked down this street before, but the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before. All at once am I two pounds fatter, knowing I’m on the street where you bake.

one of our guests brought the fried chicken. just like brooklyn bowl, awesome!!!
now we had to reheat the chicken so i was afraid we would lose the texture and flavor, no way.
awesome, awesome, awesome. these guys could sell a ton of chicken off a food truck in nyc.

Fortunately I’ve had occasion to pass this gem of a bakery several times when I’m walking dogs; it’s easy to miss, and remember: Bedford street was originally a cowpath that was a shortcut to Christopher street.
I’ve gotten ciabatta here – love the olive ciabatta – and I always grab a few breadsticks, because they sell out fast. They’re unlike any breadsticks I’ve ever had, and are great with soup, butter, Nut-​tella (I get Raw-​tella, myself) or just by themselves.
They don’t have soy for the coffee, but their coffee is so good I can drink it black. And everyone who works there is so nice – as other reviewers have said. What’s not to like?

The woman who works here on the weekends is so unbelievably lovely. She puts a smile on my face every time I buy a loaf of bread. She cares about the food and seems to be enjoying herself so much that it makes the whole place enjoyable to visit.
Also– the bread is delicious!

It’s in my building, so I feel a strong sense of loyalty to this bakery. The employees are always quiet but friendly. The bread is delicious, fresh and relatively cheap (for the quality).
If it’s your first visit, get a small loaf of Rosemary bread. If that can’t convince you to come back, I don’t know what will.
The baguettes are always a hit when I bring them to dinner parties as well.

I’ve only gotten the breads here, but this is definitely the place for artisanal bread. Their whole wheat load, which they now sell in smaller loaves if you don’t want a big one, has so much sweetness and flavor you can just eat it plain. I also like the white loaf and the country white bread. The breads here are fresh; I’ve only had one incident when I’ve had a stale loaf and it wasn’t even bad – it just didn’t taste like Blue Ribbon standards. Prices here are higher than Amy’s (a few blocks away on Bleecker) and the bread is tastier and less salty. The olive roll is chock full of olives, better than anything I’ve had from Carroll Gardens (home of the Italian breads for me!). They have a full range of appetizing prepared foods that I know people rave about but for some reason, I am riveted by the breads once I enter here.

As all the little Mom and Pop shops close down it was nice to see a hole in the wall bakery, especially two blocks from me. OK, ti’s part of a bigger, newer thing but that’s OK. The guys behind the counter are always very pleasant and greet me when I come in, goes a long way customer service does.
My taste in bread isn’t as refined as some of the other reviewers, bread usually compliments other foods (least it does at my house), so I have to say they do a great job at keeping it simple.

After doing a survey of french baguettes, I’ve concluded that Blue Ribbon Bakery carries the best.
Peer bakeries: Amy’s Bread, Balthazar, Bouchon, Parisi, Sullivan Street, Whole Foods.
At a dinner party in which I served most of the above, Blue Ribbon was first to go. It has the perfect mix of crunchy crust and chewy center — not a surprise given Blue Ribbon Restaurants’ high quality.

Sorry Blue Ribbon, but I can’t award you a blue ribbon… maybe red or white at most.
I wasn’t that impressed with your sushi too and your bread too wasn’t spectacular for a self-​proclaimed preeminent bakery. First of all, it’s overpriced for such simple bread or toasts. I know I’m the minority here for calling Blue Ribbon «overrated and over-​hyped», but I’m not giving into peer-​pressure. Basically people come here for the Blue Ribbon brand, because I’m sure you would otherwise hesitate to pay $ 5 – 10 bucks for a piece of fancy toast if it didn’t have the name «Blue Ribbon» written before «Bakery». Overall it’s above average, but definitely not outstanding. There are many Blue Ribbon worshippers already anyways so I don’t feel so bad writing such a negative review, LOL.

I went in and asked for what would be good with arugula & ricotta ravioli with tomato basil sauce. They recommended white, baguette or flat loaf of Italian bread (ciabetta) with rosemary, sesame or plain. I chose quarter of plain ($ 2.25). This ciabetta didn’t wow me. It was good but not good as Sullivan Street Bakery and it didn’t particularly worked with my dinner unfortunately…
I am a rosemary fan so I will try rosemary next time like Lucy D, Matt D and Lisa Q suggested.
