Although I love Marc Jacobs and the cute affordable-ish accessory items this place sells, the rating can only be average because of the shopping experience.
The location is incredibly small and crowded. Previous reviews are correct that staff are intimidating and not extremely helpful.
However, this is a cute place for gifts.

I heart bookmarc. The staff was a little intimidating but I just pretended like I was as cool as them and my insecurities melted a little. They had a great selection of books and movies, Edie Sedgwick coffee table book, documentary on graffiti, every Sophia Coppola film, Nightwood. I have always admired MJ as a designer and now I feel like we could be great friends because we have similar tastes in things.

Fun shop in collaboration with Marc Jacobs… Lots of fun stuff for any budget! It is nice to see a book store that is full of shoppers! The location is also a must see!
The highlight must be the sexy, friendly and hip staff always ready help! A must visit!

I am not fan of Jacob and I am not a fan of their art collects in this bookstore. So I only give it as a 3 star.
But if you like Marc Jacob, this one is an interesting spot for you to understand more of the hints of Jacob’s fashion philosphy as well as his design style. My friend, who loves Jacob, loves this store really much.
I was not paying attention to the books on the bookshelves. But all the books they collected based on the coverline seems really artistics.
In addition, there are some wallets, bags and jewlery for you to choose and those are not that expensive.
Last but not least, service is really nice. My friend had some questions and asked the staff there. The staffs were really helpful and knew every details of the store. I appreciate the efforts.

Tiny store aka Bookmarc. Nice, trendy employees. I ignore the books (mostly coffee-table type tomes) and go straight for the small table of cool keychains, desk accessories, and trinkets. OK place to shop for male and unisex gifts.
There’s a good chance they have in stock whatever relatively cheap knickknacks other Marc Jacobs stores are sold out of.
No cash/credit returns. Only store credit or exchanges are available — with receipt and within 14 days of purchase.

One of my favorite shop in NYC.
A lot of nice artsy book selections, and lots of cheap knickknack. Always find something to buy, whether for me or for my friends. Feels like a nice posh flea market.
I wouldn’t recommend going on a week-end though, because the place is small and tends to be crowded easily.

Very crowded, very hippy and staff is very scary. The staff all look like vampires, like you’re going to be their next dinner. I also felt like they were watching your every move and annoyed when you touched a product to look at it. Nonetheless, I like the set up of the store, with books all around and various accessories spread throughout.

i do love the marc jacobs brand so maybe i’m partial… but i did dig my experience at bookmarc. i actually found the staff here to be more personable than some of the other marc stores in new york. friendly and helpful, i appreciated the staff getting the items i bought not from the floor displays but from the back stock. the selection of books is pretty cool and varied. if you want cheap accessories branded by mbmj this is your go to place. its basically the section of the marc by marc stores that offer the key chains, cheap bags, knick knacks, cell phone and iPad cases, etc but laid out with books. hey, to each her own!

This place was so cute! Apart from the obvious pun, there was a lot of fun to be had here. Nothing was cheap enough to tempt me except a super-cute ring which was inscribed in Latin (like my wedding ring) and so I got one for the hubby. The line on it was reminiscent of part of our wedding vows… I knew it probs wouldn’t fit him, but for $ 3 the gesture felt like it was worth it. It was super-busy in here which isn’t great for browsing, but I think that’s their luck in being opposite Magnolia so people come in for a nosy while they are in the queue over there!

A pretty small shop, but loaded with fun stuff. The books are all pretty modern and chic, lots of pop culture and fashion reads obviously. Some really nice coffee table buys, perfect for the hard-to-buy-for savvy/scholarly friend. LOTS of cute MJ items for any budget. iPad and iPhone covers and cases, necklaces, lipstick pens, markers, notebooks, the list goes on. The perfect shop for gifts!

I LOVE Bookmarc. There’s always some cute little knickknack here that’s cheap enough for me to pick up on the whim.
The Boyfriend brought a really nice suede Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet here about two years ago for only $ 23. He just replaced it today.
I’ve picked up cute long necklaces here for less than $ 20. They look super cute with just about everything and it’s Marc Jacobs!
Tip: Things are final sale here so make sure you’ve made your final decision before buying!

This is the type of place I like to visit when I’m in the mood to have twenty people pressed against me, elbowing my back, blocking my path, and whacking me with their purses. Which is never.
There are some cool things here (hence the two stars), but it just isn’t worth the claustrophobia.

Adorable little shop in West Village. Key word: LITTLE. Perhaps I hit the Saturday mid-afternoon rush, but I was barely able to navigate through the store and had to basically plow over a few folks. (sorry!)
This store has a variety of items from actual coffee table reads to trinkets by Marc Jacobs. From iphone/laptop cases to random pencils or key rings, it’s worth exploring if you’re in the area. Items range from $ 10 — $ 100+ depends on what you buy. Look everywhere because all the good merchandise is tucked away since this store is quite small.
Also, it’s opposite of Magnolia Café — so time get your banana pudding on!

BookMarc is a great spot to peruse oversized coffee table art books or sift through Marc by Marc Jacobs signature trinkets (Marc by Marc mini sharpies, keychains, lipstick pens, etc.) Due to its location and name (and proximity to other Marc Jacobs’ stores) this place is typically packed full of tourists and aspiring fashionista students.
Avoid the crowd: come early on a weekday (they open at noon.) When it’s not jam packed the staff can be quite friendly and helpful. I chatted with an associate for a while about choosing a great laptop sleeve.

What a snotty little place. With snotty staff. Here’s a written illustration:
Skinny sales boys running around in MJ tapered jeans. Yup, this place has them. And, for some odd reason, the fact they work at BookMarc has given these same boys an inflated sense of entitlement. Maybe it’s the fact that these dudes are the only ones skinny enough to navigate the tiny, tiny space. Or, in truth, these are the only guys that would purchase the MJ bilge on sale here (Crayola colored MJ totes for $ 40? No thanks). But, at the end of the day, if you took these guys out of the equation and let the store run itself, it would be a FAR better place to browse and shop.
The one redeeming quality is that the book selection actually seems thoughtfully curated; a good cross of gay sensibility, insider art market culture, and fashionista. A couple of the surrounding bookstores could take a queue from the buyer working here.

So what does Marc Jacobs know about books? Well he doesn’t but he knows how to sell other people’s books, while at the same time, selling his own popular knick knacks like the canvas tote bags and necklaces. I assume most people come here to buy the «Marc Jacob» merchandises more so than buy actual books. However, I wouldn’t necessarily consider this your average bookstore as most of the books they sell here are artsy and hipstery books. The one problem I have with this place is space. I feel like I’m surrounded by walls of books everywhere I turn and the next you thing you know, I’m butt bumping with the surrounding shelves and people who try to slide pass me. If you have claustrophobia, beware. Unfortunately, this place doesn’t give me enough of the book-nerdy feel. I’ll go back to my Barnes & Noble.

AMAZING
This place has some of the coolest little things. In addition to all the fab books and stationary, there are tons and tons of cool Marc Jacobs accessories, purses, etc. Everywhere you turn there is something new to look at. The place is tiny, so it promotes lots of movement. It’s hard to standing one place with a constant flow of customers in and out. But every time I made my rounds I found something new and exciting to add to my «cart.»
I bought a fantastic ring that I have been wearing everyday since, an amazing lipstick pen (perfect for me), and small leather wallet perfect for a few bucks when out on the town.
I can’t wait to go back!
