History

Established in 2014.

Restaurateurs Marco Moreira and Jo-​Ann Makovitzky of One Five Hospitality, which includes Tocqueville and 15 East expanded its repertoire in spring 2013 with The Fourth and Singl Lounge opening on the south end of Union Square at 132 Fourth Avenue.

Renowned Master Sommelier and Sake Samurai Roger Dagorn, serves as Beverage Director for the group and brings his exceptional experience and palate to each property.

The team announced Botequim in September 2014, inspired by Marco’s native city of Sao Paolo, is a South American-​inspired subterranean nighttime culinary destination.

Meet the Business Owner

Marco Moreira, Joann Makovitzky A.

Business Owner

Brazilian-​born chef Marco Moreira arrived in New York City in 1982 through an inspired twist of fate, he ended up training as a sushi chef at the very beginning of the sushi craze. In 1986, he launched Marco Polo Sushi Catering, and soon afterwards he was hired to implement the sushi program at Dean & Deluca, where he met Jo-​Ann Makovitzky, his future wife and business partner.

Jo-​Ann, a New York native, had been enthralled by the food industry as a child and began mapping out her career in the kitchen at an early age. Joann attended the prestigious Culinary Institute of America.

In 2000, they opened Tocqueville Restaurant, a French-​American restaurant with a European sensibility. The pair then opened 15 East in January 2007, which also earned two stars from The New York Times and a Michelin Star.

In 2012 the couple created One Five Hospitality and opened The Fourth, Singl Lounge and Botequim the team’s newest addition featuring dishes inspired by Marco’s native city of Sao Paolo.
