Hyatt Union Square New York

Having to be at Hotel though the blizzard of 2016, I couldn’t have asked for better experience. Clean, quite, warm and the staff being incredibly helpful
Even the following day, needing a later check out because of my delayed flight was no problem at all, will be back for sure

Stayed one night. Room was predictably small but clean and well appointed, great bed, decent shower, uncomfortable toilet. Great eastern views from the tenth floor. Courteous staff.
Unfortunately, two weeks after checking out I discovered that they had billed $ 237 to my credit card without explanation. (The room had been prepaid via a popular booking site.) When I called the hotel, they explained that the online reservation was «overridden» resulting in a duplicate charge, which they immediately offered to refund. Glad to have a refund if it ever comes (in 7 – 10 business days lol) but I am not thrilled with the notion of a large credit card charge without explanation or phone call or text message or any attempt to communicate prior to charging me. Incidentally, the credit card was given for «incidentals» of the mini bar variety, not for the nightly room rate, so the charge was not only in error, it was actually technically unauthorized. Just uhhh shoddy billing practices all around. This takes my review from 3 ½ stars right down to 2.
Other minuses:
1. Windows were really dirty, on the outside.
2. The one onsite restaurant was closed that day for some function. (Doesn’t really matter, there’s all kinds of food in Union Sq.)

Great hotel for a great price. Our room was small, but comfortable. Super-​modern and chic. Hardwood floors feel cleaner to me than carpets. Nice amenities offered en suite and upon request. The bed was very comfortable, the shower reminded me of a spa, the lighting system was very cool — modern and user-​friendly. We stayed on a high floor on the «Courtyard» side so it was very quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel met all of our needs and wants: the room was on the 11^th floor and had a blue-​sky– and water-​tank-​filled view through huge windows, a very comfortable king-​sized bed, a good-​sized, tiled shower, and it was clean and quiet. The sink drain was a little bit slow and the TV doesn’t get very many channels, but if you’re in Union Square, NYC, who needs much television? Would definitely recommend to fellow travelers.

Had a meeting here, but thought I’d post a review as I’ve stayed here many times pre-​Yelp.
As chains go, I like it, strives for a ’boutique’ feel and I think it just about gets there with the cool staff, gym, bar and lounge.
I could tell you unless you book a suite the rooms are small but that would be like telling you a bear defecates in the woods — NY hotel in small room shocker; hardly, they’re fine unless you’re staying a week or longer.
Great place to be based also — on the cusp of east, Greenwich, or west village depending on your preference.

Great hotel, great staff, great location.
Just checked out after a 3 night visit for Thanksgiving week and could not be happier with my hotel choice. Originally, I had reservations at the W but changed my plans when I learned there was a Hyatt in the area as I am a Platinum member in their Hyatt Passport program.
Hotel is modern (only 2 years old) with nice wooden floors and an updated bathroom with rain shower. Sure, the rooms are on the small side but this is NYC ladies and gentlemen and the layout was more than ample and roomy enough for my needs. The concept at this hotel is very similar to the Hyatt Centric brand – clean and contemporary.
The staff was young and vibrant and catered to all my needs. Location wise, this place is tough to beat. Close to the subway at Union Square Park and walking distance to The Village, SoHo, NoLita, Flatiron, Little Italy and Chinatown… I even walked to the Brooklyn Bridge and Freedom Tower… I had an issue with a noisy guest in the room across from me on the first night but the front desk addressed the matter promptly by moving me to a corner, Urbane Studio the following morning.
The gym at the hotel was better than many others I have stayed at. Some great restaurants, coffee shops, etc within 2 minutes — 15 minutes. Good sports bar across the street. Nice little touches here such as chocolate squares at bed turndown and free apple cider (winter).
Will go out of my way to stay here again!

Nice atmosphere, courtious staff, xtra fast room service, real hot water and great beds. Better attention to detail is required for the price however, old coffee grinds in the coffee maker which makes less than a half a cup at a time, shower handle was stuck and we had to call maintenance, light mechanisms were unusal and had to be learned, and the USB charger took all night for ½ charge, alas, no tub for soaking after a long day of walking. That tub thing is more about NYC I think than the Hyatt. We will look around before staying again.

Good location and somewhat centralized. Walking distance to shopping and lots of restaurants.
(Typically) small and modern. The king size bed took up the whole room, but there was still enough space for a desk/​chair work area. Windows open so you can get fresh air! however, you still hear (almost) everything going on outside. Bathroom is tiny. Almost nowhere to put toiletries, but it makes up with a strong shower head flow.

This is one of my favorite hotels in NYC. Mainly because of the location. You’re in Union Square with access to almost any train. You’re surrounded by restaurants, a movie theatre, shopping anything you can really ask for. 5 stars for location
The rooms are modern and clean. Small like every other hotel in NY. The food is excellent. They have a small restaurant downstairs. The staff is helpful and nice. My room didn’t have a view but I assume some of them do.
The doormen are helpful in catching cabs and helping you with your bags or giving directions.
My favorite restaurant in this area is Max Brenner. It’s on the same block as the hotel. See my review for details!

We are Hyatt credit card holders and stayed here as part of their 2 free nights offer to cardholders. What a first class experience. If you love the hipper downtown scene as opposed to the stuffier uptown vibe, this hotel is within a mile from great bars and restaurants like Aquagrill. There’s a subway literally around the corner too. The entire staff was welcoming and helpful, but I’d especially like to highlight Hannah and Victor for their help with recommendations to eat, etc. We will be returning as often as possible to Hyatt Union Square. I have stayed at this hotel at least 5 times and it always has been a good experience. The staff is friendly and always help with any requests for upgrades, early check ins and late check outs.
The rooms are great and super clean.
The gym comes in handy :)
I haven’t tried the restaurant inside the hotel as the location of the hotel gives access to so many restaurants around. Loads of shopping areas easily accessible as well.
This has now become my Goto hotel in New York.

This is on my company’s approved hotel list, so this is where I stay on a fairly regular basis when I have meetings in the area.
Overall, the staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. Those are all HUGE factors when traveling on business.
Here’s a list of the additional good stuff:
–amenities (soaps and shampoos) are very nice and substantial (more than one shower’s worth of stuff)
–the gym is exceptionally nice
–showers are really nice; great water pressure (with one exception — i was in the accessible room once and literally couldn’t get the water working… it was just dripping out… engineering did fix it but the pressure isn’t nearly as good as the other rooms that I’ve stayed in).
–the restaurant downstairs (The Fourth) is really good. Breakfast is super expensive but everything I’ve had is delicious. The bar at The Fourth is awesome — love the bartender there. Dinner food is great, too.
Stuff that needs improvement:
–systems need to talk to each other — meaning computer and online systems. I have stayed there MANY times and they never have my history or information available.
–as mentioned, the staff is always friendly, but I recently stayed there for 5 nights and was asked, «is this your first time here?». Again — the staff that day seemed new (not the regular faces that sometimes recognize me), but it should have been in the computer somewhere.
–along those lines… my room was pretty much the smallest one that they have. Call me crazy, but if I’m staying 5 nights in a row and I’m a «frequent flyer», I would hope for some kind of upgrade. Granted, I didn’t ask — nor did I complain — but that just seems like a no-​brainer.
–internet — the wifi is pretty slow; they need to work on that. they also charge for it, but we do get it comped through my company’s relationship with the hotel.
–housekeeping is generally good but it’s inconsistent. sometimes the coffee is replaced… sometimes the shampoos are as well… etc.
–the elevators are slow and one of my colleagues got trapped in one last year. yikes.
–turndown service — i haven’t cracked the code on this one yet. not sure if they do it every night or just the first one that you’re there. again — inconsistent.
Overall, it’s a nice hotel. It’s still new, so it doesn’t feel run-​down or overused like many others. There’s a lounge downstairs (across from The Fourth… it’s called Singl) and a small sitting area near the check-​in.
Great location near Union Square.

Very beautiful hotel, awesome amenities and clearly state things you can request and keep (ie. hair brush, toiletries, laundry bags, oral hygiene products, nail polish remover wipes, and more). Service was pretty great overall, although I did have an instance where they forgot to bring one of my requested items.
The hotel is very conveniently situated, in a lively area with many restaurants and shops nearby.
The fire alarm went off around 1am though, which was very surprising for us. We soon found out it was the aromatic candles in the lobby that set them off, which seems pretty silly. Luckily we were not asleep yet, but I can imagine myself being very upset if I was woken up by the alarm.
We were situated in a fairly quiet room, although the sounds of people going in and out of their rooms were pretty loud in the morning.
Wifi is not free, which we were not at all told when checking in. We were lucky to find an IP address that bypassed their checks, though, so survived on that for the night.
We were also charged for drinking various alcohols and wines for my room, even though we did no such thing. I called in and they immediately removed the charges, though.
Despite the quirks, I’d say it was a 3.5 star stay.

Lovely boutique hotel. Incredibly tiny room… too small for two people but great for solo traveler.
Wifi is expensive here. Great location in the Flatiron District, quick walk to Chelsea, or West Village. Modern décor, friendly staff.

I loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again on a future visit.
It’s a Hyatt but it’s pretty small — I was expecting a big corporate/​conference type Hyatt but was pleasantly surprised that it was more boutiquey. There is a bar/​lounge and two restaurants, but we didn’t visit any of them. We had room service breakfast one morning which was pretty standard.
All of the employees were really friendly. The location is perfect — a block from Union Square and the tube. The lobby had way too much potpourri/​perfume and smelled nasty.

This review is for the lounge bar only, did not stay overnight here.
I’ve had drinks here multiple times, mostly just waiting for people or needing a place to have a drink and just hear the person I’m with. It’s perfect for that. They make a perfect GIANT martini. Compared to the lobby bar at the W, they def surpass. The bartender promised me I wouldn’t be disappointed and I wasn’t. If you need to meet someone for a first date or a work drink, this is the spot.
No nyu kids, def just their parents. I’m down with that.

Randomly ended up here on a Saturday night to meet some friends before heading elsewhere. Definitely has a strong hotel lobby drink feeling (versus feeling like you’re in a bar that just happens to be in a hotel). Drinks were STRONG.

It’s a travesty when basic things like proper hotel maintenance, housekeeping, and customer service ruin a luxuriously gorgeous and functional design.
* Beautiful hotel — exterior, lobby, room; literally everything in the room looks exquisite (especially when compared to the usual hotel associated with the big 4 loyalty programs), and is designed to function well. Couldn’t be happier with this aspect. Room feels peaceful — with the cork back board behind the TV reminiscent of sand, and the pale sky blue paint in contrast to the cork, and also in the well-​designed open vanity area reminiscent of the ocean. Just love it. Absolutely stunning.
* Super comfortable bed — better mattress than Westin’s Heavenly Beds, and the pillows are perfectly plump with the right amount of loft.
* Stunning finishing touches all throughout the room from interesting and intuitive lighting to delicious toiletries, and an overall soothing ambiance. Even small things like the full mirror are situated perfectly — versus other hotels I’ve seen which stuff them in the wardrobe, behind a door that doesn’t open all the way, so it’s impossible to use. :-)
* The wood (or material that looks like wood) is a welcome departure from the usual carpet that constrains cleanliness that are all too prevalent in most hotels. It did not appear to cause noise issues, however I did only stay for one night. I heard a phone call from either the room next to me, or from someone in the hallway, but unsure if it’s related to the floor, and do not respect it is.
The challenges are as such:
* Lovely shower, but did not drain properly — unsure if it was due to the specific drain in my room being clogged, or a universal design issue with the slope of the floor not being correct, but I did not like standing in a ½−1 inch puddle. Luckily, I was wearing shower slippers.
* Bathroom sink did not drain properly and clogged up both at night when brushing my teeth (gross!) and again in a smaller way doing the same thing the next morning.
* No spare TP roll, which is rather inconvenient if you run out.
* Found a dirty face towel!!! Yuck! There were literally blotch remains of face foundation smudged all over it. Totally unacceptable. Rarely have I encountered dirty towels in hotel rooms, but this is simply unacceptable. Whoever is folding the towels should notice such things.
* I ordered room service for breakfast the next morning as I was «working from home,» and the steel cut oats were OK, but all the additional items I wanted were mixed in with the sugar, which I was not so keen on. Also, I had thought the sweetener was honey or something, and not brown sugar. And most of all, my pot of tea was luke warm and not steeped all the way — also only giving me 1.5 cups. Very mediocre.
* Front desk: the man who checked me in last night said he would register me in Hyatt’s loyalty program, since I could not find my former loyalty number from years back, yet I still have not received the email confirmation, and considering his typo of my last name in my email address last night — even after I provided him both my ID and credit card and spelled it form him letter by letter — I have doubts as to competency. Also, when I asked if my first room was adjoining, I was told «no,» however it was when I got there, and I had to move. Lastly, the staff didn’t appear as experienced/​professional — overall. Wondering if this is their first rodeo.
* Lastly, the elevators are, in fact, surprisingly slow.
Like I said at the start, nothing is worse than finding a perfect hotel and having it diminished by sub-​standard service and housekeeping/​maintenance. It feels like so much of the staff is inexperienced and learning on-​the-​job.

Ask if elevators are working! I never was trapped in one but did get stuck long enough to note other reviews here regarding how they work or don’t aren’t a joke. To give you context I walked up and down the stairs and had bellman assist to avoid being in the elevators in a quasi state of unknown suspension more than once…
Customer service is lacking in general and I for the life of me couldn’t figure it out. Maybe I’m just used to platinum level business travelers being gifted frequently and this spot is more of a tourist crowd. Unfortunately it led to many disappointments and I’d had high hopes because the location is great and rooms nearly new.
Oh, space is at a premium here so shoot for a corner room at minimum and a suite if you can pull it off.

You get what you pay for… the reason for the four of five is simply for the wifi is at costs. This should be free. A full confessional that the show Hotel Impossible has ruined me.
Location
Are you a tourist? This is a great location. The subway is in a great location a block from the hotel, a walgreens, eateries and yes a Starbucks. The park, which is a block away, is a nice place to have that coffee before your hike during the day. A taxi cab ride from the hotel to Time Square is 10 minutes and 11 bucks, remember tip.
Hotel
Sheek was my first word. Modern and comfortable were the next ones. The gym alone is fantastic! No hot tub. The gym has free apples and water. The cardio machines are modern with technology upgrades. The customer service is incredible. «Victor» the tall gentleman will meet you at the door. He get you what you need. The young and hip staff make you feel welcomed. The restaurant a step away from the lobby has great coffee and pastry.
Quick Tips:
Business travelers: there is a nice open space on opposite side of the lobby that you can have a quick meeting or gathering with colleagues.
Tourists: the laundry is done well and recommendations from the staff will do you well.
