I may never get over the fact that the BBW era is over.

Wow I remember shopping here a decade ago, when Built By Wendy was an up and coming designer. I’m so glad she has suceded, as she makes unique clothing with a splash of vintage hipster and classy. The prices are a bit high but the designs are unique and generally adorable. The staff is lovely, and very helpful; it’s a real treat to shop here.

When i lived in LA, I looked for their store and it had just closed down. But then I stumbled upon their NY location while in Chinatown and was so shocked. It’s nestled on a random quiet street amidst the border of Little italy/​Chinatown. I love the style and fit of the dresses. They’ve washed well and continue to fit well after a few washings. the salesperson was not pushy and gave honest advice. no regrets on any of my purchases!

haven’t been the greatest — fashion speaking– but I still support this brand and this store is cute.

This is a beautiful store.
Just enough off the main drags that it isn’t mobbed by the style-​hungry masses, with a very friendly staff and simple, perfect clothes.
The thing about this place that just slays me is how things look cute on the rack but maybe not amazing enough to justify the price tag… and then you put them on and all the sudden they are PERFECT. Beautifully made, beautiful fit, just… everything. Pieces that are special but at the same time you could wear them all the time (without having them fall apart).
I disagree with the reviewer that says these clothes don’t flatter anyone. I went in with my friend and while we are differently-​shaped, we both found stuff that looked really great on, and neither of us are tall rail-​thin model types either.
All stuff on sale was 50% off which put sale dresses at about $ 150 and separates under $ 100! Also, they sell patterns for their clothes which is so awesome!

The stuff they have here is definitely cute, there’s no denying that. However, the price is way too high for some things that are so simple. A plain yellow dress for over a hundred bucks? If it wasn’t so plain, maybe. Cute, but definitely not worth it.

now that you have helped build my wardrobe, can you build some other things in my life? like a shelf for all of the super cute, perfectly cut t-​shirts i bought from you? or an ass to fill your classic cut jeans that unfortunately don’t look so classic on my assless figure? or a journal to scribe my always pleasant shopping experiences with your friendly and attentive sales staff? or an industry for me to become a captain of so i can continue to afford your amazing stylish wares? i hope on my tombstone* it reads, «here lies a man who’s life was built by wendy.» and all of my closest friends and relatives will wonder, «who the eff was this wendy girl?» and then think «gosh that guy was well dressed!»

The prices have unfortunately been getting higher but there are always great sales on past season items. The great thing about this brand is that once you find a cut that fits you well, you can get it in an array of seasonal patterns. That means you can find your favorite summer shirt in a winter fabric as well. Plus the store will usually have accessories on sale, I got a pair of Keep Co. sneakers on for 30 bucks.

really when you look at it — 150 isn’t anything to spend on a pair of nice jeans that actually fit.
and the detail work on all of the clothes is outstanding.
great stitching, great quality fabric, overall just wonderful.
AND everyone that works here (i’ve only seen two) is really friendly and unpretentious.

And, I would just like to say that even though I myself am too corn-​fed to fit into any of the men’s threads, any girl that wears Built By Wendy is automatically sexy. So shop here!

One of the reasons why I love living in New York is that I can go to Built by Wendy anytime.
Her clothes are adorable, both for men and women, and I know every time I walk in there I’m going to find something that I have to have. She also sells her patterns, which as a designer, I think is freaking genius. For example, I found a dress there once that I was in love with. Unfortunately, I had just gone on a retarded shopping spree, and wouldn’t allow myself to spend the $ 250 on it. As I walked through the shop pouting I noticed a shelf of patterns, one of which was my dress. For $ 15.
A few of the items I’ve bought from Built by Wendy have had some problems — the stitching on the hem of a shirt and a tote bag strap came undone — but they have had no problem repairing or replacing them. Their customer service is awesome, and everyone who works there has always been really nice and helpful. I prefer the Manhattan shop to the Brooklyn one (for once!), but maybe that’s because Wendy was actually working there one day while I was shopping.
She also hails from Chicago, which in my book, makes you as good as gold.

I just got a new pair of boots. These boots required skinny jeans. This terrified me (and my hips). So on the recommendation of a co-​worker, I hit up Built By Wendy.
It’s on a quiet block just out of reach of Soho’s gawking tourists. Paul McCartney & Wings was playing. The girl working was amazing — she plopped a pair right in my hands after I told her what I was looking for and off I went. And what do you know, those suckers fit like a glove. First try!
I was in and out of this place in under 15 minutes, the vibe was great and My New Best Friend sales girl wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable. The jeans were $ 135, but honestly, I was expecting to pay more. You can’t put a price on hips in skinny jeans.

I love this place. I was introduced to the store by my sister and finally found it after some MAJOR persistence. You have to ring a bell to be let in. It’s a small store… very cozy. I know they now have another branch open — Brookyln, maybe?
Anyhow, they typically have a fair amount of things on sale and the style is very different … almost has a more homemade look. I got a really cute ¾ sleeved madras dress here that’s always a hit when I wear it. Wasn’t super cheap, but it’s gotten it’s mileage for it’s unique flavor.
Even if I don’t always purchase something, love peeking in whenever I’m nearby to see what’s the latest available on their racks.

Minus one point for a pair of her canvas flats that I bought which are quite possibly the most uncomfortable flat shoes known to (wo)mankind and also the fact that 2 of my dresses have seams that came undone after a few wears — not a huge deal but a bit of a pain to fix.
Most of the stuff goes on sale at the end of the season so if you don’t feel like splurging and it’s not a must-​have, I recommend waiting it out.
The girls that work here have also always been very nice to me. Yay for BBW!

The best t-​shirts ever! The store is cute, and the girl working there was really friendly and helpful. I had to come back the next day to exchange a shirt for another size and I was in and out in five minutes. If I lived in NYC, I’d shop there all the time.

Love Built By Wendy. I’ve bought my two most conversation inducing t-​shirts here: the Ham and the Bad News Bears.
I like a lot of her other clothing but find that it can be a little expensive for what it is. That being said, choose what you buy carefully and you will have pieces that are both cool and timeless.

Okay, this isn’t a review… but just so everybody knows this, and is clear about it… Built By Wendy has mens clothing as well. Wendy loves the cock… okay? Good. And why yes, I do intend on getting the Built by Wendy «Fag» shirt. You can buy it online too.
