Specialties
We are a local, Irish American bar on the Upper East Side. Our fees are moderate and our crowd is diverse! Whether we’re packed or sparse, we promote merriment and familiarity and refuse to tolerate obnoxiousness and inappropriate behavior. If you’re looking for a quiet drink at your local, welcome! If you’re coming in after work (or before work!) for a quaintly happy hour w friends, welcome to you too! If you have a popped collar, ask «what’s your cheapest drink?» and are trolling for booty, Second Avenue is two blocks over!
History
Established in 1962.
Originally founded in 1938 as McGraft & O’Neill’s, the bar became known as Carlow East in 1962. The establishment received a major facelift and renovation in 2000, but the Carlow East has been a staple drinker’s bar on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for as long as most people can remember.

Cold beer, warm whiskey… love working on the upper east side and repping SeaTown out east!
