Ambiance is great, wine is good, staff knows very little about wine. If you’re looking to learn something about what you’re drinking… bring your phone. It is a pretty cool space.

My wife and I have been here a few times. Nice quaint building. Wine selections are okay. Not fancy. Have not tried the food. Nice place to sit and have a conversation over a glass of wine.

Came here last week to meet up with my sister and was pleasantly surprised. I worked on that side of town for years and never noticed this place. Its quiet and cute… The Happy hour wine was really good and great price. We tried the bruschetta and the mozzarella stuffed meatballs. sooo good. The meatballs come with little pieces of toasted bread that went so good with the sauce. The staff was also very friendly. Overall great vibe!

I came here with my friend and I liked it a lot. Some places are solely wine places, which is fine but I liked that they have food options for dinner here. I had a personal pizza and my friend had lamb chops, just to give an idea of the variety. The wine was so good and the wine prices are convenient. The atmosphere was very dinner like and intimate, I think it’s a great idea for one on one’s or small group gatherings if you guys are wine lovers. There is also a bar there, so everyone is set. Our waiter was really attentive and I overall enjoy the experience thoroughly.

I came here last night on a date. He arrived about a half an hour late, and during that time I got to chat with the chef in the back as well as the bartender. They were both very friendly and I had great conversations with them. In fact, I enjoyed their company more than my date’s but that’s another story… The place was absolutely dead — there was nobody in there except for my date and I. Apparently they are much busier on weeknights than the weekends, but I kind of liked that it was quiet. We ordered the porkchop which was good and there were lots of options on the menu that I’ll definitely come back and try! I love my red wine, so I really enjoyed this quaint little wine bar for a quiet night. This place is also hard to find from the outside. They need a sign or something because I wasn’t even sure I was in the right place for a little while!

3.5 stars I stopped by after work with some coworkers. The glasses of wine are okay and they give a decent pour. Although I didn’t try the food, my coworkers ordered the dip and I believe the bruchetta. While the portions were very small, I was told it was good(although it seemed a little over-priced to me). It’s a very small wine bar, but a great place to enjoy a conversation over a glass(or two) of wine.

Place looks nice. But between the blaring music and the offensive BO of the garçon, decided to bail.

Thank you for the reply– however we tried to visit both times during normal business hours(early dinners, once during the week and once in a Saturday before 8 pm). The below reply doesn’t explain why you are randomly closed without a sign or notice.

Went here last night after an old friend told me to join him and his friends for happy hour. I love a good wine bar so I somewhat happily went — and if I felt awkward, then at least there was wine. The bartender was nice — just a bit distracted and not as friendly as other bartenders at wine bars that I’ve been to. She didn’t like riesling(which I love), so she said she honestly couldn’t say if it was good or not. Which wasn’t very helpful for me but the wine ended up being good… so all was well. Cello is a really cute bar — somewhat of a hole in the wall, but super cute and more suited for a date or a girls night out than a loud group of friends(and a tagalong aka me). But for a wine bar, it has a somewhat basic wine list, which was quite disappointing. I didn’t even think it was a wine bar based on the wine list — it seemed like another regular bar with fancier food and a little more than just the house wines available. The food seemed good — one member of the group ordered some, but I didn’t want to grab some even though she offered.(I mean, I was already kind of intruding their catch up time, I didn’t want to eat their food too.) But I’m definitely planning on buying some food next time — those scallops looked amazing, and the mac & cheese sounds amazing. Also, very sad that their happy hour ends at 6 — I don’t even get out of work until 6:30 most days. I hope that changes in the future. And also maybe get more wines — if you want to be called a wine bar, have more than just a basic wine list. I wouldn’t venture back out here to get together with friends but if I was in the neighborhood, I’d probably make a stop here again.

Cello wine bar is just another bar! The wine selection is basic, at best. This is my first review after going there for almost a year. I live on 53rd street and I wanted to allow myself to have a full experience before reporting on it. While I give them credit for changing their wine list, the staff doesn’t seem knowledgeable about the wines. Wine is supposed to be FUN, not intimidating or pretentious. Not sure I get that vibe here. Bartenders seem to not want to talk about wine —- imagine that!!! If you are in the neighborhood, consider instead the following where you will get more wine bang for your bucks: Sophia wine bar, Pierre lotti.

I randomly picked this place for a weekday happy hour and we absolutely fell in love with it! The reviews here are to the point. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate. Their service was great and food was delicious(we tried the margharita pizza which had a crispy crust and made with perfection). Def recommend it for a romantic date night or just a random wine night with your girlfriends :) p. s. their happy hour ends by 6pm. hopefully they will change this at some point!

Have to say this place started off slow. Only one sitting at the bar with 2 other people around at 6 fast forward to 630 and this place is pretty much standing room only. Had the meet balls stuffed with mozerella tasty but a bit over poked for my taste. And it was swimming in a tomato sauce. Delicious. But the presentation was something left to be desired. Bar tenders are attentive and they know their wine. Good suggestions all around. Would come back to try other food items on. The menu for sure. Their fig and Brie empanadas look epic. Though never had them myself

I’m rarely in this neighborhood at any time of day, let alone weeknight happy hour, but needed a wine bar nearby on a recent Wednesday and Cello Wine Bar pulled through for me. Dark, nicely lit, cozy, with good happy hour deals and a friendly server giving us big pours. Liked the malbec, the mushroom crostini, and the fig & cheese empanada(which, while large, probably wasn’t worth its pricetag).

I really like this little bar. I stumbled upon it on my way out one evening. I grabbed a seat at the bar, ordered a glass of an interesting looking white and enjoyed the vibe. Next time I’ll come back for some food, which looked wonderful. Good service by the bartender, nice décor. Well done.

Came on Wednesday evening after work and loved the atmosphere. I was greeted right away by the staff and sat by the bar to wait for my friend. Water service, as noted by other Unilocalers, is impeccable without being intrusive. After perusing their menu, we decided on a bottle of wine, two appetizers, and a pizza to share. We had the Cheese Dip, Eggplant Pancakes, and Wild Mushroom Pizza. The pizza stole the show! Copious amount of cheese and mushrooms, perfect drizzle of truffle oil, thin crispy crust. Eggplant pancakes were essentially slices of eggplant parmesan, and that cheese dip is HUGE. Your bread is gonna have to call for backup. Friendly service, great wine selection at a reasonable price too!

Cello is a dimly lit, cozy wine bar that’s great for some quality time with that special someone. It’s quiet and perfect for a date. The wine by the glass list isn’t huge but it is well chosen. There is food, mostly of the small plates variety and everything seemed reasonably priced. I had a delightful Gruner at $ 11/glass for a generous pour. The bartender was a nice guy — on top of water refills but unobtrusive. A great find in Midtown.

Super cute place for a little bit of wining and dining! I popped by on a Friday night for a little impromptu catch up with my roommate(yes, I’m aware we live together but it’s still important to have roomie date nights here & there! :D). I grabbed a cozy table near the back around 7pm, before the place really filled up! We split a bottle of Malbec, which was on their special list for about … $ 30ish? I have no idea, I guess downing half a bottle of wine will do that to your memory! We also split the 3 cheese + 1 meat plate and everything was divine! Loved the goat cheese — so yummy! Lots of dates going on around us. and with the dark yet cozy atmosphere and decently priced drinks, I can definitely understand why.
