I grew up in NY and have lived around the country. If you dont live in NYC, your town or city probably has at least one«NY Style» Chinese restaurant. Charlie Mom makes the food that they are unsuccessfully trying to emulate. The Spare Ribs and Egg Rolls are worth the price of an airline ticket.

This place used to be a favorite but either it’s changed ownership and chefs or it had a bad night last Monday The wonton soup was okay but the wontons were inedible, The chow mein was so loaded with corn starch it was eating glue, which I gave up on after seversl attempts because I was hungry but not enuf for General Tsao’s so sugary and syrupy chicken that it was imaginary candy dessert, but not a good one. What happened???

This place has decent lunch specials. Try the Shredded beef and garlic sauce. They do use quite a lot of MSG though so that kind of ruins it for me.

NEVER go to this restaurant. The employees who were opening up the restaurant this past Saturday encountered a rat that had gotten trapped between the front door of the restaurant and the roll down gate(wondering where the rat came from??) and thought it was hilarious to beat the rat to death with a metal pole. Although I am not a fan of rats, they are a part of everyday life in NYC, but no animal deserves to be beat to death and so viciously. They were laughing the entire time. It was a barbaric sight. I thought that the food there sucked anyway, but now I know some of the employees there also suck.

I’ve never been treated so well at any Chinese restaurant. The man at the front counter had such a calm and welcoming attitude, and he genuinely cared to have a conversation with me after I ordered. Food was great, and I definitely will be going back soon.

Love this place. They remember who you are after the first time you pick up in person. Customer service is fantastic. Food is quite good– lots of vegetarian options, and great prices for the large amount of food you receive.

Love this place! The best Chinese food I’ve had in the ues area. In my opinion, the crispy orange chicken and the general tso are the best dishes and the egg rolls are really good as well. Def recommend this place. If you can, get the lunch specials. Great deal and price.

I can’t say enough great things about this place. I’ve been many times, The food is extremely good and reasonably priced. It’s the people who work there that make this place a favorite. The same guy is usually there and he literally brightens my day. I usually sit in there and eat at one of the tables inside. He doesn’t let us lift a finger, not even to throw our food away. I really love the friendly vibe of this place and will continue to come here for a very long time. Even the delivery guys are extremely nice! Rare to see.

New York City, New York– We were looking for a hole in the wall and we found it! The food was cheap and delicious and we were glad we could satisfy our craving so late at night. The staff are friendly, the dining area clean, and the service fast. We had the mixed vegetable dish with a side of garlic spinach and white rice. Of course we did not pass up one of our faves– vegetable egg rolls for two.

For cheap Chinese fast food, I think this place is fairs pretty well. For a tiny place, they manage to squeeze in fancy antique-looking round tables and chairs. It’s clean and it’s combo’d with very sweet and un-hasty service. We ordered the kung pao chicken and broccoli beef. Chic was really good, beef was good as well but broc was a bit overcooked and has a tad too much starch– tasty, nonetheless. We were on our way to a paint class held at a bar right next door. So we ate, we left and we were happy and satisfied. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again, but would def stop by if in the hood and crave Chinese on the quick.

Ordered fried rice with shrimp today after I saw their menu. As other reviewers said that they have a great special menu which is around $ 7 each. I paid $ 8.60 for some reason, just to let everyone know. Food was great therefore I’m giving 4 stars. Also I liked the idea to put the extra sauce in the bar, so whoever needs extra one can take it without asking them. Oh yeaaaah, fortune cookies, that one too

Went in to order take out recent. The staff was friendly and my food was made in under 10 minutes. The lunch specials are under 8 bucks.

Pretty much delivery or take out only, since the location is tiny. Really solid food with a great lunch special. Beef /chicken and broccoli are good go-tos if you’re not sure what to try. Also, the people here are really friendly, and will make your order as specified.

Their chicken taates rancid. Just ate broccoli and threw rest away ! And I rarely do that. Play it safe. Just order a veggie steamed meal with brown rice.

Not bad for an upper east side Chinese food place (I found most UES Chinese food to be «yuppie-ized» and flavorless) Ill keep coming back!

Over 20 lunch specials offered 7 days a week. They’re all under $ 7 and come with either a soda or soup and an eggroll. Now that’s what I call a deal! General Tso’s chicken is always a winner in my book. It even stays crispy when reheated the next day! Delivery is lightening quick!

I’m in the midst of a desperate search for a good, solid, Chinese takeout. My boyfriend and I order Chinese at least once a week, and I just can’t seem to find a place that has everything I need. The reason I like Charley Mom’s is because they actually use sliced, white meat chicken in all the chicken dishes. I’m finding that more and more Chinese takeouts in the city use the sort of half fried half sauteed dark meat chunks of chicken — leaving mostly fat and no meat. I think most of the chicken dishes in the other takeout places around here are GROSS — and I usually stick to shrimp. The bad thing is they don’t have boneless spare ribs!!! WTF??? They only have them on the bone and they are just so-so.

I’m thinking that Charley Mom didn’t join the Unilocal Protection Plan — a lot of these reviews are BS. Those who are talking about your waiters — you seriously sat at that table that the delivery guys hang out at? There is no table service here. Hence, the five stars, to counter the nonsense. Because you see, we like Charley Mom, and I would have given them four stars regardless. Maybe because it’s like two blocks away, for easy pickup. Maybe because the guy in there(the owner?) is always very friendly. Maybe because we like the food(wife likes the cellophane-noodle soup). Look, it ain’t gourmet, and it’s not Our Place(I have yet to try that place but everyone raves about it). Susur Lee is not in the kitchen. But it’s very good comfort food for the price, and what the hell else do you want from Chinese food?
