Came to Gotham West, which is a great little spot in my neighborhood, for some dinner and of course dessert! Decided to try out Choza, which I found tucked away in the back. I’m no connoisseur, BUT tacos are my thing so I wanted to give their tacos a try. I don’t know anywhere else in the city where I can get 3 tacos for $ 8! Yes, they are a little small when you compare them to America’s typically oversized meal portions at restaurants, but I still thought they were great. I tried the chicken, carnitas and steak and all were fabulous, colorful and jam packed with flavor. I will definitely be returning when I need a quick tacos fix!

This place used to be great. Now it’s just meh. Their portion sizes seems to have been shrinking after Gotham West Market got popular. The same goes for the bowl. It tastes good but it’s soooo overpriced. For a $ 9 vegetarian salad this just is not enough.

What happened, Choza? This used to be a place where you could get a great taco meal for under $ 10. Now it feels like the portions are half the size from before, and I didnt feel full after eating a whole bowl. It still tastes good, but it’s just no bang for your buck anymore.

Amazing. Stopped at 10:30pm on a Wednesday. I was starving and I didn’t know what to get. I saw Choza’s good prices and I decided to give them a try since I haven’t had Mexican food in a while. I got the 3 tacos for $ 8 and those were AMAZING. try the Carnitas. you won’t be disappointed. I will be back for the rice bowl.

Ample Hills was the main reason why I wanted to visit Gotham West Market. However, I’m so glad that they weren’t open yet, so I picked up 3 tacos from Choza Tacqueria as I patiently awaited for my ice cream. For $ 8.71 after tax, you’re able to mix and match. I went with the pollo, the chorizo, and the steak barbacoa. Each taco came with an ample amount of juicy meat, which I loved. I loved the chorizo and the pineapple on the pollo taco. At first, I thought they gave me pork because of the way the chicken was shredded. But it actually was chicken! Highly recommend the tacos here!

LOVE the tacos. Side of guac and chips is on the smaller side. The location itself is in Gotham Market which is a fun food hall but Choza’s seating bar is kind of dull. It’s great for take out. Gotham Market has outdoor seating for a nice day.

Came to Gotham Hall West for lunch. Decided to try the pollo bowl and fruit punch soda. So the bowl was ok, potion was huge. However the meal was warm and not hot and the chicken lacked flavor. The pineapple and beans in the bowl added a little flavor to the bowl. The house hot sauce was HOT if you a hot sauce fan.

Excellent authentic Mexican food, friendly staff. Get the rice and beans on the side for $ 2. Also the hot sauce they serve complimentary is bomb.

I just had the cheese tamale and it was outstanding. The corn meal was a perfect blend of sweet and salty. The corn meal was prrfectly moist. The queso was gooey and melty inside… then the crumbled queso and crème fraish on top made it perfectly delectable. Only wish i tried more food from here. Im from san diego and have tried my fair share of tamales. this one is the best ive had in NYC

Came to Gotham West Market to find some lunch and settled on this since I’m a huge fan of Mexican food. I got the chicken burrito and churros. I wanted to try the horchata but they were out of it that day. The burrito was ok, but it bothered me that everything was in layers(layer of chicken, layer of beans, layer of rice). Nothing was really mixed together very well. Also, it was odd to me that they used just plain white rice instead of the usual Mexican seasoned kind. It wasn’t the most memorable burrito I’ve had but was ok. The churros were the absolute best part of the meal. They were made fresh and came with caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. Soooo good! I’d come back for that and to try the horchata but otherwise, I think there are better places for Mexican food.

i just ordered some chips and guac to go there so idk about all the 3 star review overall rating. maybe its just that mexican food in nyc just generally sucks, and if you’re a norcal kid like me, your high expectations never go away. guac is fresh, a nice mix of ingredients — onion garlic cilantro i think — and of course, chula hot sauce packets that went lovely on top. for 3 dollars im pretty happy, considering how much of a letdown the rest of my lunch jaunt to the gotham west market was(see my reviews on genuine and blue bottle on my pf). This was a necessary treat.

This place gets points for trying to be more authentic than the typical Chipotle type Mexican place which is not close at all. They actually offer tortas here and Jarritos sodas. However, the food is slightly off in terms of ingredients and seasoning(too bland) and is clearly made by people who don’t know Mexican food too well. Food is also overpriced as well because it’s in the trendy Gotham Market. Tortas and burritos here are about $ 9 each. For $ 6 in Queens, I can get one that tastes twice as good.

We decided to give this place a second try after the first was a bit of a disappointment. First time we came for dinner. We had chicken tacos, carnitas tacos, and Carne asada tacos. They charge an extra $ 1 for Carne asada, which is pretty typical, but we literally got like 6 tiny pieces of meat per taco.(Still hungry) I moved onto my carnitas taco that had slightly more meat and a few more toppings. It was ok. The chicken tacos were by far the best and largest of the three. They had a decent flavor and were pretty packed. If all had been like the chicken I probably would have enjoyed it more, but the others we so tiny that I went home and had a snack to get full. Service was fine. Seeing how that wasn’t horrible or amazing we decided to go back today for our favorite meal of the day, breakfast. Being from California I grew up on breakfast burritos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This place only serves breakfast until 11am, so we had to wait for a weekend to try. The moment we got to the register I was already turned off. Gothem market was pretty empty and there was no one in line. There was 3 employees working Choza this morning and yet we still waited at the register for awhile before anyone even acknowledged us. The male employee who was preparing food for another guest eventually said he’ll be with us in a minute. Okay cool. One of the female employees come to take our order that had an attitude that came across as we were an annoyance and just wanted to rush us. My gf ordered the torta. Employee asks, «what meat would you like with that» as if meat was included. Little ticky, guess I can appreciate the misleading up-sell attempt. «Is that it?» employee asks. Ummmm there’s two of us standing here? Am I just supposed to watch her eat? I’m thinking. Overall the staff just didn’t come off as very professional. I ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon when given the chance. Both of our food was cold with pockets of warmth. The bread on my GFs torta tasted stale and it just wasn’t appetizing. The flavor was just meh. She didn’t end up finishing her meal, and for those that know her that is not usual. The burrito I had was small(they love to help with portion control here), and it tasted like a frozen burrito I’d heat up in the mirowave. Bacon was that precooked kind you get on your sandwich from Subway every so often that you always question how they call it bacon. Burrito was mostly lukewarm potatoes some unoriginal salsa. So dissapointing. We won’t be back. Fortunately Gothem Market has other places that we really enjoy.

To me, Chipotle has become the«standard» for tacos/burritos. And for the first time in quite a while, I found a place that actually might give Chipotle some good competition. Choza Taqueria was excellent. A little pricey, but I guess not too bad considering it’s in the city. The meat in all the burritos I tried was very tender, and flavorful. No blandness here. The«falda de res»(brisket) was my favorite. The cotija cheese was awesome in the burrito as well. Would love to come back and try more from their menu.

I was very disappointed by the tacos here. The chicken tasted extremely average, and the carnitas were super soggy. Both lacked the strong flavoring that I was looking for. The taco shell though was by far my least favorite part. They were thick and doughy and honestly such a distraction from the rest of the meal. I feel like I would have been more satisfied eating chipotle instead. The Gotham west market itself is adorable. It reminds me of a smaller and more comfortable Chelsea market. Choza however just did not live up to my expectations. I’ll definitely come back to the market and try some of the other options next time.

Not bad at all. I had the taco set($ 8 something). You get to mix and match, so I got two chicken and one with carñitas. The chicken was ok, but the carñitas were awesome. Very tender and full of citrusy flavor. Next time, I’d just get three of those.

Carnita torta: Amazing! One bite was all it took for me to wonder if Choza was available anywhere else in the city. Juicy, flavorful, delicious! Carne Asada torta: This was also finger-lickin’ good! Saucy, delectable, tender! My mouth is watering as I reminisce… Fantastic lunch option if you’re around the area. Grab a Jarrito with your meal and enjoy!

The tacos at Choza actually look pretty good, but I left the place still disappointed and searching for good Mexican food in New York. The pricing for the this place is kind of strange. They say 3 tacos cost $ 8.04, but then they have some tacos that cost extra. I got the carnitas, pollo, and carne asada for $ 9.25. Carne asada for an extra $ 1 makes sense, but pescado for an extra $ 3? Imagine a scenario where you get the carnitas, pollo, and pescado. Comes out to about $ 11. The first two don’t cost extra, so you pay about $ 2.60 for those. That means you’re paying about $ 5.80 just for the fish taco. I’ve had good fish tacos at cheaper prices. The tacos tasted ok, I think they look better than they taste. I would probably have it again if I came back, but I didn’t leave feeling I just had to come back to eat here again. Mercadito in Chicago was one of those places, and I really wish New York had one.

I enjoyed my first visit here so I came back for a quick lunch. Got the same tacos as last time but after one bite in, I realized it wasn’t what I had ordered. When I went up to ask them about it, the girl who took my order insisted it was correct and I must have said the wrong thing. Yeah, no. I know what I said and I know what I do and don’t eat so this was irritating to hear. Turned out my order was switched with another girl’s, who also came up shortly after me. There were no apologies on their behalf. I understand mistakes happen but placing blame on the customer before you have all the facts of a mishap does not make your business look good and does not make me want to return. That, combined with the fact that this time around the tacos were cold and bland, is little incentive for me to ever come back.

There are a lot of hole-in-the-wall taco joints dispersed throughout Hells Kitchen, but I’m glad that Gotham West Market decided to include Choza into their variety of purveyors because it’s just a little more trustworthy, in my opinion, than some of the other options I had to choose from, before I discovered Gotham West Market. Another taqueria option would be in Chelsea Market, Los Tacos No. 1, but you’re bound to wait on a 5−10−15 minute line, depending on when you go, and you won’t even have a place to eat it! Choza Taqueria is one of the few vendors in Gotham West Market and their tacos are good. They hit the spot, for when you’re craving a corn flour tortilla taco. We ordered a platter of tacos– chicken, fish, and carne asada. We also ordered a side of rice & beans, chips & guacamole. One downside of the chips & guac though, were that they definitely didn’t give us enough guacamole for the bag of chips. The guacamole is served in a small plastic saucer, more suitable for dipping sauces. The rice & beans are not pre-mixed, thankfully, so you will get two containers of black beans and white rice. You order your food, wait for the kitchen to put it together, and either take it to go or grab a seat at a bench indoors. You can also eat it outside, on one of the patio tables. Choza Taqueria also offers tamales, breakfast tacos, ceviche, rice bowls, aguas frescas, and juice smoothies. I have yet to try any of these, but I definitely will be back to do so!
