Ideal for take out, Tehuitzingo does great tacos in a variety of styles, from chicken to lengua(tongue). Inexpensive fare in a no-frills venue, that looks more like a Bodega than a restaurant, you can’t go wrong for a quick bite here. Have ordered from here numerous times. Once, they forget to deliver a side salad I ordered, when I called back they apologized and sent someone right away. All for a salad. Thanks for the service.

Wonderful! That is if you hate good food. Alas, a place be found! Soon discovered, and moreover a quick nourishing bite ’round midday. The sun rise and shine upon, yet in entering the dim venue, the sun did not yet shine. Nor the food. I ordered four tacos. The beef ones were veined with a disgusting layer of fat. The prices of meat attached to this vein of fat did not detach. Repulsive. Little garnish, and no cream? As an aficionado of good traditional Mexican tacos, with many consumed in the nation itself; this place is not grand. Make not the trip, lest you find this yourself.

Absolutely disgusting. I’ve ordered twice from here. I was excited to get my Caldo de Res as my first order, only to discover my meat and veggies were swimming in 1 part actual broth/salsa and 1 part pure grease. I was famished, so I ate about a quarter of my soup. I ended up with a terrible stomach pain by that evening. Needless to say, it put a hamper on my date that evening. This time around, I figured I would be safe with meatballs and potatoes, not realizing there was sauce involved. I should have known. I got meatballs swimming in grease and have the pictures to prove it. I’m having to just eat my rice and beans that cost me 15 dollars once you factor in tip.

I walked inside to order lunch with someone that I’m taking a class with. She ordered first and I was right behind her looking at the menu. The girl in the front disappeared and came back out almost 5 minutes later. When I try to put my order in, she goes you have to wait 30 mins. Hence, there is only 1 other person in the restaurant. I asked why is mine 30 mins later when my classmates is not. She goes bc you came in later but we walked in at the same time. After going back and forth she goes, ok we’ll try to get your order done sooner. As I’m waiting, I asked for a little container for hot sauce and she says she does not have any«empty» ones. She walked away to the back and I saw another employee so I asked if I can have a cup. The other employee reached for a plastic cup and she pushes him away and says there are no cups when I saw the guy try to hand it to me! I asked her why she can’t give me any of this and she says she doesn’t have any, AGAIN but I saw the guy with it in his hand! At this point I am upset and annoyed and asked her why can’t I just have an empty container to put some cholula hot sauce in. She said the sauce is for dine-in customers only and if I wanted one it’ll cost me $ 1 for a container! Am I not a paying customer? I AMAPPALLED. WORSTCUSTOMERSERVICE I’VEEVEREXPERIENCED. Update: I ate the chicken burrito I ordered after I calmed down from the horrible customer service and there was a piece of bone in it and burnt chicken that was so hard I had to spit it out. I also found a bay leaf(or at least I hope it was) in my burrito! How can one even miss it while putting the burrito together?!? I have no clue how this place even got any good reviews. I will add pictures for everyone to see.

Damn the tacos are great here. VERYFRESH and served hot. I had the beef and the chicken with lots of Mexican cheese atop. My friend ordered the rib stew which had green chiles, which he said was great too. Service was good. I only wish the made their tortilla from scratch. Aside from that, this place is great.

I really wanted to like this place. I book amrked here awhile ago and met my friend for lunch during my winter break of 2015. 2 tacos comes in an order. I should have ordered a sandwich instead, I also ordered a pork rib stewed with green chilies. I came with rice and beans which was great, I gave my al pastor tacos to my friend who finished her order of pork tacos. I will have to find another authentic place for tacos in NYC.

Cute spot. Tacos were okay. We had the carnitas and fish but both were a bit bland. Could use a bit of avocado and sour cream. Over all not the best experience but pretty good food.

Nice place for cheap street tacos. I had the shrimp tacos that were not on the menu, and they were good, but needed some cilantro and avocado. Being from Texas, I’m pretty picky about street tacos, and so I was surprised that they didn’t have cilantro or grated cheese to add on with the other condiments.

Tehuitzingo is a little grocery store off of 10th, but inside, you will find a little taqueria in the back. Items such as Huevos con Jamon, breakfast burritos, soups, tacos, nachos, fajitas, flautas, enchiladas, chimichangas, sopes, quesadillas, huaraches, tostadas, burritos, various platters, and tortas are offered. I tried 3 of their tacos: Al Pastor(roast pork with pineapple; this was slightly bland, and I wished there were some visible chunks of pineapple with the pork); Chicharron en Salsa Verde(pork skin taco; this was in a green verde sauce, but this was a bit too wet-like for me, with a very mushy-like texture); and, a Bistec(beef/steak taco; this was super flavorful and pretty tasty). There are red and green salsa available, but I highly suggest the red salsa — this was a great complement to the tacos. I would love to come back and try out their carnitas as well as their huaraches. Just note that even though the store has posted holiday hours, they open about an hour past the stated time — it was a little annoying, as while the grocery section was opened, the kitchen wasn’t ready in taking the orders and another hour of waiting was required! +bistec tacos with red sauce +friendly staff +does not adhere to posted operating hours!

Real Time Lunch Review! Ordered up a Torta de Suadero(Beef Belly), and Bistec A La Mexicana(due to the seduction of that BOOM pic posted by Tiffany M!). Ordered up at 3pm. Hefty distance from my office, yet hot food arrived in thirty minutes! Very generous portions of beef, rice, and beans for the $ 12 price tag! Torta looked and smelled amazing! It all tasted soooo good! The beef belly is where it is AT, y’all! And that Bistec heated up perfectly the next day. Best Mexican delivery in the area, hands down!

Absolutely amazing. The Cuban was out of his world. If you’re looking for authentic, fresh Mexican food this is the best place in the area. They have large portions and the inside is clean and quaint.

LOVETHISPLACE! Cutely decorated fiesta! Came here Friday night around 9pm with my younger brother, being a teen from the suburbs of Chicago, he was impressed by the ‘hole in the wall’ he relished in the experience! The staff was super nice, helpful in making suggestions. Great in getting our food out fairly quickly. The tacos were amazing, and authentic. Ingredients were simple but all played a role in exciting the taste buds.

Just a little disclaimer before you read any further, I like tacos more in theory than in practice. The only reason I came to Tehuitzingo’s is because it was #NationalTacoDay(yes, I’m one of «those» people). If I’m getting Mexican food it’s usually for a burrito or a quesadilla, tacos just aren’t something I enjoy all that much. So this review may not line up with what a true taco lover may think of Tehuitzingo’s. I went with two friends and between the three of us we had a steak torta and orders(they come with two) of chorizo papas, carnitas, and suadero tacos. We had originally wanted the pollo tacos, but they were all out. There is only counter seating, but there’s enough space for a dozen or so people to sit and eat. The space isn’t that special, it looks like an ordinary deli. Albeit with a giant TV and a mirror lining the walls. One of my friends commandeered the torta and before I knew it it was gone. From what I could tell it must’ve been good. It was filled to the brim and had a TON of ooey gooey cheese. He’s also had the burritos at Tehuitzingo’s and he said the torta was better, so that’s interesting. Of the three tacos my favorite was the chorizo, my friend’s favorite was the carnitas. The chorizo was more potato than chorizo sausage, but still good. It did need some lime to lighten it up however. I wasn’t a big fan of the suadero(beef belly) tacos. They were fatty, but with weird dry fat? Not yummy chewy fat filled with moisture and flavor. All the tacos were unbelievably bland in my opinion, no salt or anything, and despite disliking Cholula I actually put a hefty amount to give the meat some kind of flavor. They were really filling though, by my third taco I was uncomfortably full. The boys said this place was good, but I guess as a person who doesn’t really like tacos it’s hard for me to see that. Maybe I need to go back and try that cheesy torta. If I was basing this off of just my experience and food preference it would be a 2 star spot, but the boys insist that it’s good, so I guess I’ll go with an «A-OK» rating.

This authentic Mexican grocery store and restaurant could be a hole in the wall given it’s so small, but it’s so clean and pleasant it’s hard to say those words really describe it. Try the squash quesadilla and chicken soup on a cold day. Yum!

Moving over to New York from California, there was one thing I knew that I was going to miss: taquiera. Time after time, I had gone to taquerias around the city, and ended up being disappointed every single time. Surprisingly, Tehuitzingo has sort of satisfied my craving. Located in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen, Tehuitzingo is a small Mexican market/restaurant. Here, there are a bunch of different tacos that you can choose from, ranging from lengua to carne asada. For those looking for a heartier meal, there is always the burrito. Here’s where I have my gripe. Mexican joints in NYC really don’t know how to make a great burrito. They’re always too fat, don’t have the right proportions of ingredients, and usually cost too much. Nonetheless, out of the taquieras in NYC, this place has my favorite of the bunch. Another dish that I do enjoy here is the panzita(tripe soup). It has a nice little kick to it, and the pieces of tripe aren’t too overwhelming. Tehuitzingo, you’re definitely the best Mexican joint in Midtown, but I still miss what there is in California. Nonetheless, you’ll have to do for now.

We were brought here by a New Yorker to grab a quick bite. I didn’t have high expectations based on the appearance and I was never too crazy for Mexican food. I ended up ordering a Cubana. It’s a huge sandwich, big enough for two people. Oh my God, it was amazing! The sandwich was carefully layered with roast pork, ham, pork brawn, sausage, avocado, and a Oaxaca cheese, plus lettuce and tomatoes. Super tasty. It’s got to be one of the best sandwiches I’ve eaten. I loved every bite! It’s a hole-in-the-wall. They have counters and barstools if you want to eat there. They also sell Mexican snacks and drinks. I’d definitely return to this place!

This was good food in general although I wasn’t a fan of the rice they used in my burrito. Apart from that it was tasty and my husband loved his tacos. The server had a really difficult time understanding that we wanted a grilled cheese with a side of fries for our kiddo… he kept thinking we meant we wanted fries inside of the grilled cheese. Really?

I last came here six years ago, and back then it was a bodega. They’ve remodeled since, adding a lot of space to sit, though you’ll still be sitting on bar stools at a counter. The tacos here come with a double layer of tortillas and filling enough for both layers. I did not know this and ordered three but in effect got six. This was a thoroughly wonderful turn of events. It’s mostly $ 7.50 for two-but-actually-four tacos. Tacos tried: chicken rice, lengua(beef tongue) and barbacoa goat. The chicken rice was great, like comfort food. The lengua was well done but felt a little unexceptional to me, though I’m struggling to explain why. The goat was terrific, not unlike the babacoa you might be familiar with from Chipotle but goatier(in a good way). The side of guacamole is generous, more than enough to top 12 tacos!, and the side of rice n’ beans is also large and delicious. Beer fridge in the back. Fresh limes and hot sauces by the front. And though it’s not much of a bodega anymore, they do still sell foodstuffs, e.g. you can get a 12oz glass bottle of Cholula for $ 8, which I think is significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

It’s not much to look at, but the food is amazing here. Tehuitzingo used to be a grocery store with a tiny window to a kitchen in the rear, but it produced some of the most authentic and delicious Mexican food in Manhattan. Now, it’s refashioned as a restaurant where you order from a counter and serve yourself. The soft tacos are perfect here. Tacos are about balance and Teguitzingo does just that. Tender meat accompanied by the perfect amount of onions, cilantro, lime juice, and sauce is enveloped in just warm soft tacos. They used to have a sauce bar but the health department prohibits this now — but they’ll put some different salsas on the side for you too. The soups and entrees are also well-executed. I’ve had the pork ribs in salsa verde, a piquant sauce made from tomatillos and peppers. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and well-seasoned. The mole is rich, dense with flavor, with hints of Oaxacan chocolate, dried chilies, and the complex array of spices that compose this sauce. They also serve a side dish I rarely see, grilled nopales(cactus), a painstaking dish to prepare. Aside from removing the numerous spikes from both sides of the pads, it must be cooked just right lest it be rubbery or dried out. Tehuitzingo does neither, and it always comes out tender, juicy, and surprisingly good. Chicken soup transports me to images of an abuela cooking for her ninos. There is a fridge in the front that has some Mexican beer or Mexican soda that accompanies the food well.

Pretty phenominal spot… chorizo con papas tacos are unreal. I also recommend their bistec torta and arroz con pollo tacos. You really can’t go wrong here. While I lived on Hells Kitchen, this was a delivery staple and occassionally we would venture over to 10th ave and eat inside the bodega. You really can’t beat these tacos with a Tecate 40oz.
