WOW! If I remember M M was the only one btwn 40 an 50^th street in the 70s and possibly the same today. I worked for MM in the good years (70s) pedaling that 3 wheeler making deliveries. Never got hit. It was Carl his Dad, Mom and believe Tony who were the decision makers. Mr. Mazzella was a serious business man, Mrs Mazzella was real nice. Carl used to have a blue Monte Carlo and at times gave me a ride to work. Tony was a riot, he should of gone to H-​Wood and got a gig as comic. I think it was Gail? who did the billing. Did not see much of the sisters but they were Sophia Loren look a likes, foxy ladies. And no, never ate or took any of the fruits. Yes, after all these years I still remember the Mazzella’s. Best of luck in the years to come and I may drop in for a visit next time I’m in NYC.

Love this little market, especially for the convenience (I live within a block). Prices are great, though a tad more expensive than at Stiles’ up the street. Still, I come here a great deal to pick up that onion or garlic I thought I had in the fridge, or maybe some plantains I feel like frying on a whim. The owner and people who work there are really nice – once I was even short a few dimes (they are CASH ONLY) and they just told me to not worry about it.

Fresh fruits for fair Manhattan prices. Old style green grocer that many grub spots on 9^th use for their fruits and veggies.
Basil that is green and clean. Berries that are ripe and fresh and not $ 5(shame on you Gristededes). An owner who greets you and says goodbye to you. What you need and want is here. Mazzella’s is one of a kind and the kind I like.
