This is the most elegant salon, with the most consistently amazing service & results I’ve experienced to date. First & foremost, this salon is results driven — the quality & perfection of my hair color (by Raymond) is second to none — no other salon could come close to preserving the health & vibrancy of my thin locks, which for the first time has grown out below my shoulders while highlighted, on account of the expert administration of the salon’s quality products. Secondly, the professional & courteous staff ensure a wonderful visit, each & every time. Little details such as the amazing espresso & wonderful puppies also contribute to the fantastic ambiance. Lastly, I’m compelled to mention the décor which feels like I’ve walked into an architectural digest photo shoot. In summary, I highly recommend this salon, and hope to be a patron for long long time to come!

Amazing quality! I went in for an all-​over color and am sincerely impressed with the results. The staff is very friendly, experienced, and knowledgeable. The place is clean with huge windows that make it seem larger than it is (which is hard in the city). Overall, a really great quality service.

I had the most amazing experience at David Torchio Salon! Every person I met there was kind, friendly and gave the most excellent service I have had in all on NYC! The man who washed my hair massages like heaven! The man who styled my hair showed me how I can do my hair at home. I looked beautiful when I left. Thank you David Torchio!

Had a GREAT experience here! I bought a $ 20 blowout thanks to Lifebooker and then called to add a trim to it as well (because I was a new client it was only $ 20). Gary, new to NYC and from London, really listened to me and there was a full conversation about what I wanted for the trim and blowout. I told him I was getting in married in February and so he kept as much length as possible. He was a delight – we chatted the whole time about our lives – very easy and extremely relaxing. Small salon but great location. I will certainly return to Gary and this salon after my wedding in a heartbeat.

Came in for color and blow out– super clean, people are super friendly/​guy that washed my hair — REALLY WASHED– didn’t just rub his hands in my hair (as most places do these days) will def go back– color was ok — (but I am picky with hair color) just wondering why are salons calling a root touch up– single process as they are not coloring the entire head of hair

I have been here 2 times so far — once for a haircut and once for a keratin treatment (both with Dona). Everyone in the salon is extremely friendly. The second time that I came in, the receptionist remembered me immediately and asked how I liked my keratin. Dona is great — she listens to what you want for your hair and checks to make sure you are happy. I have had stylists in the past at other locations who seem to not listen and just cut hair how they want to cut it, so I appreciate Dona’s approach. They also made suggestions about helpful products when I asked without being pushy. The salon is small, but I have never found it to be overly crowded. There are two «office dogs» that wander around the floor — they are very small dogs (I think maybe shih tzus), very cute and they keep to themselves. But it’s something to know if you are afraid of dogs.

I have been going here for about 3+ months now after a groupon deal and falling in love.
Everyone at the salon is so friendly, I honestly feel like I’m going to a friends place to hang out and get my hair done, super cool in my book.
Dona is amazing at cutting my hair and I’ve never left disappointed. She’s the first stylist in NYC that’s let me go short and I love it! She even pulls inspiration pictures for me. She listens to what I want, understands that I am low maintenance with my hair and always gives me an easy cut to work with. She is also great with blowouts, so my cut looks even more fantastic. She’s easy to talk to and I enjoy being in her chair!
This is the second time I have gotten my hair highlighted here. He first time the color grew out and looked so natural, I loved it. Raymond did my color this time. He was quick and once again easy to talk to.
I have super oily hair and mentioned this casually to Davide and he suggested a shampoo to me, the first hair stylist EVER to do so. Much appreciated.
I never have a problem making appointments and they are very flexible!
I get excited to go to the salon because I know the results will be amazing!

First off I’m in love with this salons décor it’s so «retro chic». I came in for a blow out & left with my next appt for a color & cut. My stylist Dona had such great energy. I have very mixed her hair & with this weathers humidity have a hard time keeping my hair from frizzing up. She gave me a card with a list of products I should use and some great tips. The staff at David Torchio was amazing I even had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Torchio himself!

If you’re looking for a traditional bob or an old-​lady blowout you may like this place, but for anything else… go elsewhere for your own good.
I left their chair a week ago looking no different than I came in – same dead ends, cow lick overgrown bangs – and this after sitting in a chair for an entire hour and fifteen. The stylist (Dona) was friendly but focused more on the conversation than the hair. I also noted that at times she was sitting down while cutting my hair and this I found unusual as stylists normally remain on their feet and move around. When I looked on the ground post-​cut there was hardly any hair there – and this after I agreed to cut several inches of hair from the back.
Normally, I just walk away and try somewhere else, but I felt compelled to send an email to the owner expressing my frustration. They were kind in responding and rescheduled me for today to correct the situation.
Did they? Nope. I had to leave the salon because I felt ganged up on and patronized with lectures about giving stylists freedom to create. I said that’s what I did last time and got nothing so I wanted to be more specific this time. The situation only got worse. I didn’t feel comfortable or as though I could trust them.
I wanted a bob with two long pieces in the front and they kept not understanding or consulting and trying to steer me to their tried and true old lady hair.
Also, Dona, the stylist of my first attempt was there. AWKWARD.
Never going there again and neither should you.

I loved the location of this salon and the people who work there. My appointment was with Dona Jones for a haircut. She was incredibly attentive, and highly professional. I asked her for volume in my fine flat hair and she gave me exactly that. The entire time she was working on me, she gave me valuable advises on how to treat and style my hair. It was a very pleasant experience for me and I’m looking forward to go back

Sigh. Yet another case of terribly inaccurate reviews on NY Unilocal.
I found Davide Torchio through Lifebooker. I’d been wanting to color my hair for a while but hadn’t taken the plunge (in 10 years!) due to a particularly traumatic HS experience. But knowing that I wanted a new look without resorting to a drastic cut, I finally steeled my resolve. Did some research (4.5 stars on Unilocal?Score!), closed my eyes, and clicked purchase.
(Before I did, though, I went in for a consultation — armed with photos of the hair I desired. Auburn and copper tones. I asked Raymond whether a single-​process would be enough to convert this thick, Asian hair into Jean Grey pizzazz. «Definitely,» was the response.)
I was literally wriggling with anticipation leading up to my appointment and showed up enthusiastic and receptive. The first thing Raymond said was, «Hmm, I’m not sure we can lift this enough.» I frowned. «That’s not what you said during our consultation,» I pointed out. He mulled this over. To ease his concerns, I told him, «I don’t care if it’s not as light as this, as long as it’s red.» «Okay, we’ll use heat,» he finally said.
«So do you work a lot with Asian hair?» I asked, while he was rubbing dye into my hair. I tried to ignore the nagging sense of panic rising in my gut. «Yeah, we get all kinds,» he answered noncommittally. As he worked (one application of only one product), he talked about his prior salon experience, and how color was something he instinctively «just got.» We talked about his old manager, who he called unprofessional because she would get «too starstruck around celebrities.»
Application done, he piled my hair into a loose bun atop my head and sat me under the heat for 20 minutes. It was really hot, and the chemicals stung like a b****. But I chalked it up to «beauty is pain» and stuck it out without nary a whimper. «Ooh, your hair is really lifting!» Raymond would walk by and say.
Some other girl was assigned to do the shampoo and blowout. The shampoo was rough, and despite my concerns that dye would get on my blouse, I ended up with water ALL over the back hem of my top. She also liberally sprayed my ears with water — repeatedly. And she was rough. A ton of strands pulled out. I tried not to care about this, since it’s just, you know, a shampoo.
Back in the stylist’s chair, I glanced at the mirror and noticed that the tips of my hair were pretty dark. I blamed the water. I told girl not to knock herself out styling my hair, since I was just going to sleep afterward, but the blowout still took 40 minutes. She even asked me to flip my head over at one point (is this normal? I honestly don’t know).
After the blowdry, I was surprised at how light-​hued (some of) it was. I also noticed that my hair at cheek level and up was considerably lighter than the bottom. «Is that going to look weird?» I asked. «I think it’s pretty! Like a reverse ombré,» Raymond responded. I naively figured this was just something that happens when you take waist-​length, virgin, Asian hair and try to lighten it. No sweat, I said to myself, and even pleasantly told the stylists that I liked it and that it was pretty (after all, they seemed so friendly…). I smiled and convinced myself to genuinely like it. I chalked the difference in color up to bright salon lighting and nighttime.
I hurried to the 6, and while I was waiting on the platform, trying to check my reflection in my iPhone screen, a lady walked up and stopped right next to me. She had the EXACT SHADE OF HAIR COLOR I wanted. Rich auburn red with copper tones. That’s when I realized I HATED my results. But I made myself wait ’til morning to make a final judgment…
…at which time, I panicked. The top looked even lighter now (lighter than the color I wanted!) and more orange than red. The bottom was essentially my natural hair. I called to point out that 1) this was not all-​over color, and that 2) it was the wrong color, even in daylight. Front-​desk guy responded flippantly, «You’re wrong. I saw your hair last night, it looked fine.» Then, to pour salt in the wound, he added, «For what you wanted, highlights would have been better…» I choked. «Isn’t that what the consultation was for?» I replied hotly. Then I pointed out that I have an important meeting to go to in the next few days and can’t go with faux-​ombré. He sighed loudly and said, «You don’t have to go for THAT defense. Even if you DO have a meeting…» «Excuse me,» I interjected, heart starting to pound, «are you accusing me of LYING?»
He perfunctorily offered me a fix, but there was no apology — not a single, insincere sorry, even.

I tried coloring my own hair last week and it was a disaster. I used a Groupon to try this place out and see if they could save my hair, and it turned out great! Raymond did a wonderful job evening my hair out and making it look pretty again :) Everyone was super friendly and I loved the atmosphere (little dogs were running everywhere!). Definitely would recommend.

I was really excited to get my haircut at Davide Torchio since all the Unilocal reviews were so excellent everything was going well until the end of my haircut. I am trying to grow my frontal bangs out so I figure getting a haircut by adding some side bangs and face framing and layers would look nice. I explained this to my hair dresser and I guess she really didn’t understand. She didn’t cut any more bangs to blend with my ugly frontal bangs she just trimmed them and swept them to the side. I also asked for nice layers that blend with face framing and she did not do any of that. All I have now is the same exact style with shorter annoying bangs and hair. I wouldn’t suggest this place to anyone. Even the conversation people were having around me was inappropriate. I am so frustrated and will never get a groupon from here ever again!

I’ve been hoping for a reasonable place to get a quick blow-​dry (and potentially more) in the neighborhood, so I was excited to see a Lifebooker blow dry deal to try this place out. I had a Bat Mitzvah to attend, so thought it was the perfect time to go!
I was surprised to be greeted by a dog when I walked up the stairs, but once over that (I tend to be afraid of animals), and seeing that dogs were well behaved, I will say that everyone there was lovely and friendly… with the exception of the girl who did my blow dry and seemed to lack a personality. She wasn’t mean or anything, just not very warm and kind of blah.
I have long hair and dislike always doing it myself, so blow drys are my absolute favorite form of relaxation. (Other than the unreasonable prices most places charge. I still don’t understand why a simple blow dry needs to be more than $ 20 – 25 anyway. But I digress…)
Once my hair was complete, I left thinking the blow-​dry was just average, nothing I couldn’t have done just as well myself. To me, it wouldn’t be worth the full price, and I’m not sure I’d trust them to cut my hair; I’m long overdue for a real haircut, so was hoping to love them. I’ll just have to stick to my $ 12 Chinatown place for blow drys, or do it myself.
I’ll give them 3 stars because of the friendliness, cleanliness, and everyone else seemed happy.

I’m sad that I found out about this place now that I moved back to CA. This hair salon is a hidden gem. And when you try it, there’s no turning back because you’ll never regret your experience.
I had Icie do my haircut, styling, and blowout. She did a fabulous job with it and I came out in that Salon so happy. It’s been a long while since I had that feeling of joy after going into a Salon. She actually listened to my request and took time understanding my complicated explanation. My problems with other hairstylist was that they never listen to me and they start cutting my hair on what THEY think looks best on me… the result, I ended up not liking it because they never listen to what I wanted in the first place. But Icie is different. She listens and voice out her opinion as well, so you will never go wrong having her as your hairstylist.
On the other hand, it’s little hard to get a hold of them to make appointments. You have to consistently call them to get someone to answer the phone. Part of that is because everyone is busy with their customer so they hardly answer the phone when it’s busy. I’ll still give them 5 stars despite of that appointment dilemma because I was happy with everything when I got there and when I left. Great job Icie! Great Job Davide Torchio for having high quality staff :)

Very friendly hassle free atmosphere! Icie did hell of a great job cutting my hair. She was very thorough, it took her almost two hours due to the length of my locks.
I was given tips on better styling and could not resist buying one of the hair brushes they use in the salon. Great experience!

Went today for a blow dry with Dona. She was friendly but a little rough when washing but also when towel drying me. I wasn’t asked how I styled and my hair and she started to do it very differently, I realized that part if the reason you get it done is to try something different and I shut up, Fabio was so helpful at desk and met colorist. I liked her suggestions for another time but I admit I probably can’t afford her suggestions as she wanted to do it. I used lifebooker so I made sure I tipped well and enjoyed it. Pic would come back, the two dogs they have are so cute and so well behaved, nice small upper east side salon.

This is hands down the best salon I have ever visited, both in terms of quality of work and atmosphere. I’ve been going to Davide for four years now, and it always makes me happy to go back. It feels like visiting old friends (Davide and Fab, the owners, are wonderful people, and Donna is very sweet) while getting the perfect haircut. Davide is a hair genius.

I recently went to the salon with a Lifebooker voucher for a keratin treatment, 2 for $ 179. Making an appointment was easy and no one made me feel awkward for using a voucher, which was nice.
Just to clarify, while they do use Coppola products (which is why I went in the first place), the voucher is for the Express Blowout. It doesn’t say that on it and the stylist didn’t seem entirely certain of the differences between the two, but I’ve had the regular Smoothing Treatment done several times already so I know. My stylist Dona was very sweet and informed me you can wash your hair after 8 hours (compared to 3 days for the regular treatment). I waited 3 days to wash my hair anyway just to be on the safe side. My hair was definitely smoother and less frizzy after washing it, but not nearly as straight and silky as with the regular treatment. This is a weaker version that does not last as long. I believe the Coppola website says it lasts 6 weeks, not the 3 – 4 months that I was told it would.
All in all it was a pleasant experience and I will return shortly for my next keratin treatment. If you can find a deal on Lifebooker it is definitely worth it, as it is a great salon.

The verdict is… Fantastic !!! Yes… I loved it !
The very first impression was clean with fresh looking décor. …then awwwwwww!!! those two little so awesomely cute puppies!!! so friendly… making me feel happy right there! lol
Again, had to stop by ATM at the last minute (yes, I used to carry no cash with me till I moved to NYC, so sometimes… okay. often… I found myself not prepared for cash to tip right before the appointment), so I was a bit late​.Any​way​.it was huge relief that the hair designer was finishing up her previous customer as well .(I prefer waiting for the stylist a bit than making her/​him wait over my appointment time).
I bought 2 deals from lifebooker for Davide, which is the 6^th salon that I have tried over last 30 days or so in NYC. (I like to try out blow dry first in order to feel the salon and their attentiveness before I go further). — I will also write the reviews for the rest of salons I have tried (the rest of them were neither bad nor great, except alibi 25).
While I have already booked another salon to try before I visited Davide today (that would be 7^th and the Last one, as I am done searching for my spot for hair now), Davide Torchio salon is now officially on my list!
As for blow dry… shampoo was done thoroughly without being rushed. Thinking back, I didn’t want her to give any volume to my bang (which she did at first then put it down at my request); but the way she gave the volume to the bottom layer (I have heavy bang) made my bang look better (thus my entire hairstyle) throughout the night (I just got home, so even after midnight!)
And the rest of hair was done very well, it didn’t loose any curl or volume throughout my busy day. Compared to another salon I tried 3 – 4 days ago where I constantly felt uncomfortable due to high heat to my wet scalp from hair dryer as well as heated brush (sometimes to my face when she was drying the side), she seemed like paying good attention to make sure not to overheat scalp., As a result, I felt comfortable throughout the whole process.
At the end, I was really satisfied with the service so as usual, I tip not only based on the regular price but also the amount I have saved from deal.
Here comes the final touch! For the half price deal customer, the Davide came down from 3^rd floor (I did my hair at the second floor), to introduce himself and say «thank you.» He obviously read my Unilocal review (posted a day before I visited), which tells me he is all about customer satisfaction.
Well, some salons sells the deal to get as many customers possible (kind of like low margin high volume strategy, so I won’t be back to those of course), but the salons like Davide Torchio do so to turn the try-​out customer (like me) to loyal one (I will be one !! lol)
