Ok so after alot of searching this morning for a recipe I saw on Create for Sicilian Cassata. I thought I’d give it one more try to find SOMEONE that made it in a good old fashioned family bakery. HOWDID I MISSTHISPLACE? Since I work in NY but live in jersey after all these years? And to find its gone when I found it… WELLGUESSWHAT! Had it not been for one poster HERETY, I would not have researched to find that they reopened in CLIFTONNJ! Yeah, found my xmas desserts! Spreading the word now. THEY’REBACK. Wonderful family and pastries, got my sugar fix today and I’ll be back. New name DeRolicious 64 ½ Market Street Clifton NJ

De Robertis CLOSED today after 110 years in business. Very sad. Read the bad news here:

So sad, I read in the AMNY that they’re closing down December 5th. I actually really like the cookies and cappuccino here. They have a huge assortment of sweets and just passing the window full of ornate cakes brings a smile to my face.

I want to like this place more than I do. It’s got a great atmosphere, been around since 1904, and the walls are covered with famous patrons through the years. The only issue is if you’re not getting a cannoli(which I am not), there other sweets aren’t good. I’ve had the black and white, and the chocolate chip cookies. Both were hard, and tasted a bit stale. The fig tart was another miss. Likely won’t be returning.

Came in just because I have the bladder of a two-year old, didn’t intend to stay at all, saw the tiramisu and had a great feeling about it. It was tall, which is usually a good sign because it means it’s light and not dense. The tiramisu was perfect — not too sweet and just airy. The lady suggested the cannolis, and I took one because hey why not(even though I think cannolis are disgusting). Walked out with a slice of tiramisu for home and ate two cannolis. This place is delicious, amazing. Total gem. I’d take someone here on a date but they would have to be really special tbh.

Picked up a cannoli and a chocolate ball coated with chocolate spinkles that was absolutely amazing. The cannoli — not so much. It was old, the cream was weird and foam-like.like tough foam. The shell was not crisp. The chocolate ball thing was amazing!!! Super chocolatey. Only downside is that you have to eat it quick because it starts giving out huge amounts of oil. Super rich, I can’t see how this thing can be consumed in one sitting. So good, yet so bad. The young woman who served us was super sweet and very helpful. I would definitely come again.

I’m not a New Yorker but I’ve had my share of Italian pastries. I discovered this place by accident when I had time to kill waiting for a table at Mamofuku which is directly across the street. Since we were starving we decided to start with dessert. We both went for the cannoli but took the chocolate coated one filled with chocolate ricotta. It was fresh and very good. The shells were already filled, but you can tell it wasn’t done too long ago since the shell wasn’t soggy and still crisp. I’d definitely come back to this East Village spot to try more sweets next time I’m in the neighbourhood.

I was walking home one night and HAD to check out De Robertis Pasticceria because I could smell the delicious aroma of Italian pastries wafting out onto 1st Avenue. What started out as «I’m just going to get one cookie,» turned into me getting about 4 pounds worth of various Italian cookies, pastries, and meringues. Mm’mm! The only bummer about this place is that they wrapped up my huge box of cookies so beautifully, complete with several strings tied into a knot around it such that I couldn’t eat half the box on the way home… Haha.

Don’t have much of a sweet tooth but I definitely like this place. It feels homey and the people working behind the counter make it a five star joint. The sweets from The Canolis to the mini cakes are delicious. With ten bucks you can walk outta here with a ton of mini delights. Not a regular but I Won’t hesitate coming back.

This is a historic pastry shop in the East Village that has been around since the beginning of time. I remember going here as a child with my grandparents and I thought to myself, «This is mobbed up». It looks like it is straight out of the godfather. I was a weird kid. Okay, on to the pastries. You must eat the mini chocolate cannolis. They are tiny pieces of heaven that melt in your mouth. Oh so good. They have four flavors of the minis, but I stick to the plain and the chocolate. The filling is the best part! It isn’t too sweet like some other shops. I also enjoy the pignoli cookies. They are perfect. Oh, lobster tails too. Basically everything. Stop here for a little piece of New York history and sweets!

It might not sound like much praise, but one of the things I like most about this place is that it isn’t crowded. Sounds shallow, but for a decent cannoli and some coffee and a nostalgic feeling, I choose this place. I am no expert on deserts – hell, I would only have desert about once a month(or less) if people didn’t keep giving me sweets. However, I like their deserts here. Not the best, but reasonably priced and real. I feel like someone’s gramma made these and that’s not a bad thing. I take dates here. So, if you come, please sit far enough away from us, so you can’t hear me struggling to make conversation.

What a gem! — A taste of what the East Village was like many decades ago, this place has a lot of old school Italian American charm — Great back room to hang out in and soak up the character of the place — Coffee was very good — Pastries were very traditional Italian American fare, if a little on the sweet side for my taste

DRP is OK, even though I usually only come here when Veneiro’s has a long wait. When I walked in a few days ago, there was nary a soul in the store besides the owner and his staff. Somehow it still took them a couple of minutes to notice the only customers there. We got cannoli(large, not the small, but it was not very large at that). It was definitely solid(not the best in New York, but better than you’ll find in most pastry shops outside the city), but a little overprices. We got them to go despite the torrential flood outside – there was just nothing inviting about the room.

My wife recently ordered a cake from here, to celebrate a recent milestone for my company, and had it delivered to my office as a surprise. It was delivered exactly on time, but most importantly, it was literally one of the best cakes I have ever had(SACHERTORTE)!!! The cake was super moist, the walnuts inside were crisp and extra fresh, the raspberry filling was high quality, and the entire thing was simply impeccable. You could really taste the love and experience that went into this cake. It was also huge — and it’s hard to pull off a really big cake, and this was just amazing. Thanks to all the folks here for making it a great celebration! Also, I was sure there was going to be a TON left, but it was gone — and I mean GONE — in 30min :-) Also, I have been here a few other times to sit in the back and have some pastries. Again, this place is the real deal. Vintage surroundings, good coffee, and a dangerous assortment of fresh pastries, cookies, etc. I especially like that their stuff is not super sweet — it’s just right. Anyways, thanks again for the great cake — and for making it a day not to forget!!!

Everything looked old and not freshly made. I don’t think I’ll ever come back here again, except for their cheesecake on a stick. Yum. Cheesecake, dipped in chocolate, on a stick folks!

I liked the customer service, the back room, and the old school italian bakery vibe. I really felt comfortable walking into this joint. My friend and I came here after walking around to get a coffee. We ended up getting dessert too and decided to stay. The back is very old school and very cool with original tile work. We ordered a coffee, cappuccino, some type of roll covered with chocolate and stuffed with a sweet ricotta cheese. The lobster roll tasted amazing, both hot beverages tasted alright, but the roll was disgusting. Nothing of it was even remotely sweet. This would totally be the type of place I’d bring my mom to once a week. I’d like to see it improve. And based on several other reviewers, bad tasting desserts has been common with them. Such a shame. 3 stars for service, good lobster roll, and decent coffee.

The old school Italian charm of De Robertis translated into just soft and stale on my visit: the mini cannoli $ 3 tasted old, do did the pignoli $ 2 and the foccacia $ 3., Everything else, the atmosphere, was delightful, except for the fact that I was all alone. But then again to feel like I singly jumped through a worm hole into a sort of parallel universe, and survived, is extremely exciting to me. You can imagine NY Italians lives gracing this charming basement store, but unfortunately the experience is more visual and nostalgic instead of culinary. (The coffee was good.)

TRADITIONALITALIANDELI in east village! w/tons of little pastries you buy by the pound! came in for dessert, without having Unilocaled the place beforehand, SO i asked the workers what their specialty was? «cannolis & pignoli cookies» now i’m not about to even attempt to find better cannolis than Mike’s Pastry in boston so i went w/the pignoli, esp. since i’ve never tried one! BASICALLY a pignoli cookie is an almond cookie w/whole pine nuts in it! the cookie was CHEAP(i think i paid less than a dollar) & not too shabby!
