Owner Jennifer Esposito, a celiac herself, created each recipe and understands the need of food being safe. Bakery also has health related events and tasting events. Established in 2012.

4 yrs ago Jennifer was diagnosed with Celiac disease and severe food allergies. She was told a gluten free diet would solve her problems. Not completely true. Not only did most gluten free products taste like a shoe, but they were loaded with starch, sugar, sodium and preservatives AND made in cross contaminated facilities! She created JennifersWay Bakery as an answer to all that. To be the Celiac Standard requiring only the purest healthiest, organic ingredients. All made is small batches at this strictly gluten free facility to ensure quality, nutrition and taste. For anyone who wants to live a healthier life without sacrificing the sweet side of life.

Not to be confused with the other GF bakery chainlet with «way» in its name (By The Way Bakery, currently on the UES & UWS). Very friendly staffer greeted me and explained the selection. Went with the thumbprint with hazelnut dough (good) and the pumpkin sandwich cookie (very good whoopie pie-​esque concoction). Very interesting bag choice for a GF spot. Set me back $ 5.25, with a $ 10 cc minimum.

When every single thing I eat causes me pain and suffering, this place is my saving grace! No questions, no speaking with Chef’s, no scrutinizing menus, just order and enjoy! Thank you Jennifer for putting your heart and soul into a place for this with Celiac and severe food allergies and intolerances. The food is delicious, the bagels are so good they made me cry, and bet you can’t have just one cookie!

This place was such a delusion… First and foremost sadly we had the same experience just like in almost every vegan bakeries: they try to substitute animal products (e.g. egg) with a ton of other weird ingredients and the result is something totally artificial and absolutely not healty. The place is very small and they have a slight variety of sweets. I was literally horrified by the prices: we had a quinoa savoury ‘bread’ for like $ 4 but it was small. We also tried a chocolate chip muffin which was OK but very sugary for my liking and it was so teeny-​tiny like a mini cupcake or something and it cost $ 4,5 and the other small cupcake we chose was also at the same price, it had a vanilly frosting but I didn’t like it. the best was the savoury one but all the sweets were way too sweet and had a really artificial aftertaste so although the girl was really friendly and cute at the bakery I wouldn’t go back. It’s a robbery…

Just arrived in NYC to find this gorgeous gluten free bakery a few shops down from my apartment. Black chai tea, coconut and banana bundt and the chocolate donut were my first choice. I’ll be back again and again.

Ate: Pumpkin cookie & Raspberry Jam cookie
For me, two stars means «I’m not going back and if my friends wanted to come here I would suggest that there are better places to spend their money.» The Raspberry Jam cookie was bread with jam on top. It’s how gluten free cookies used to be — no flavor. The pumpkin cookie was good — light and fluffy, but I feel like it was only favored with pumpkin spice. My favorite part of eating these was the pumpkin cookies texture. Really fluffy — almost angel food cake like. The cookies were $ 1.75 and about the size of a five year olds hand.
Customer service was on point though.

I’ve been eyeing this place for a while on the way to work, due to its super cute exterior. I was early one day so I decided to take a look. I was immediately greeted by the woman behind the counter, who I assume is also the owner (Jennifer). She showed me all the baked goods they were selling that day, which was definitely very helpful. I ended up buying a carrot cupcake for $ 4.50, which is on the pricier side, but hey — it’s gluten-​free (+ other _​_​_​-​frees that I can’t remember) so it’s expected to be more expensive. The cupcake wasn’t AMAZING, but it was a pretty solid cupcake. Maybe I’m just too used to sweet baked goods.

I like milk and eggs. That said, Jennifer’s Way Bakery does a good job considering the audience they are trying to cater to. My cousin and sister would have me bring goodies whenever I came home. They were very happy by how the bakery was able to account for their numerous allergies. I luckily am only gluten-​free and prefer Tu-Lu’s a block away.

One of my all time favorite Gluten Free Bakeries in NYC because of its influence on Clean Eating! I know its a little pricey but its because of all of the fab ingredients! Definitely worth the trip if you’re in NYC and planning to be healthy (or have food allergies) I know its a MUST on most of my Gluten Free Tours of NYC!

This place is really rustic on the outside and inside. and Very small! there is one medium sized table and maybe 4 or 5 chairs. It also kinda blends in and unless you look for it, its hard to see the place.
Anyway, about the goodies, I had hazelnut cooking filled with rasberry, hazelnut cookie filled with chocolate chips and chocolate chip muffin. The rasberry was my favorite, it was chewy and right amount of sweet. The other two were good but the chocolate chip was a little hard to chewy/​dry and the chocolate chip muffin kinda kept getting stuck at the top of of the mouth… However, I did eat everything.
The price is a tad expensive, for 2 small cookies and the small muffin it was $ 7.50…However, I do understand that gluten free stuff costs more the only issue is that the average person will not continously buy this.
Now, is this the same as the regular cookies and cakes that contain gluten, eggs and etc… obvisously not! I am not gluten intolerate however I do have digestion problems so I chose to try the stuff and was open mind about it and it was not bad but it is acquired taste, so it’s not for everyone. I wanted to try the bread, unfortunatly they only accept cash… and I didn’t enough so will go back at later time.
Suggestions to Jennifer and the staff
1. Put labels on the goods, so the cashier does not have to repeat multiple times what each item is to each customer. It is not expensive, a small sign wouldnt’t cost more than 15 cents.
2. Please start accepting credit cards and have a minimum.

I’ve been here a few times after being diagnosed with Celiacs Disease and I love their bread! It is a bit dry, but the best bread I’ve had after being diagnosed. The staff is super friendly and helpful! The one thing I strongly dislike is the sugary desserts. As soon as you bite into them its like a sugar attack (not in a good way). It is a cute bakery with great bread, but I do not recommend the cupcakes at all!
For 2 cupcakes and a small piece of bread it was $ 15. It is on the pricey end but as a celiac, you sadly have to get use to being ripped off. Ugh.

The second star is only because the gluten and dairy-​free loaf tasted decent.
The patronizing attitude when I asked for pastry advice? Nope.
Charging me $ 5 for a quinoa loaf (a thick slice of bread) and an additional $ 0.50 for a side of honey when I asked for butter, Earth Balance, or any other smear for my loaf? Expensive and cheap.
Not having any coffee? At 12:30pm? And now there’s a loaf and a plastic ramekin of honey on the counter, so I can’t go elsewhere. Unacceptable.
$ 10 minimum for a card? I just came from the gym and only have my card. We all know how these things work. Given our poor service interaction, why not run my card and generate some good will instead of pressuring me to buy another quinoa loaf, telling me to eat it tomorrow. I have brunch plans, thanks!

Cute, homey bakery honing the east village vibe.
The only complaint I have is that they didn’t really have signs for the baked goods so you couldn’t tell what they had that day. Some of the goods were covered for storage, so you couldn’t easily see them either. It was a little overwhelming and the cashier didn’t necessarily help me by any means.
I had the pumpkin chocolate drizzled bundt cake. The texture was my favorite gluten free kind– soft, spongy and moist. Not too sugary or overwhelming, although it could use a little bit more pumpkin flavor.
Can’t wait to try more goodies in the future since it has such rave reviews.

I wish I could give this place more stars– I read Jennifer’s book and literally walked 30 minutes in the pouring rain after driving 5 hours to NY to try this place. I called the day before to double check hours– they said they would be open at 10:30. We arrived a little after 11 and the place was closed. Looking inside, we could see people in there, so we figured if we continued standing on the doorstep in the down pour, they’d open the doors.
Happily, one of the girls opened the door a minute later, but with an unkind, inconvenienced sort of way, said, «We just opened.»
They told us it would be a couple of minutes since they had just arrived, and my friend and I happily waited. After about 10 minutes they had 2 items available for purchase– not anything else on the menu. When I asked about other items, I was reminded that they had JUST OPENED (no mention to the 30+ mins late part).
We each ordered a muffin which tasted fine, but was the size of a mini cupcake and cost $ 5– and was obviously yesterdays muffin, since no baking had been done that day.
Overall, the bakery could have much more potential if the service was much better than it was. Its disappointing to drive so far, run in some crazy rain storm, only for a tiny muffin that I could have gotten elsewhere.
My friend and I ended up going down the road a couple blocks to a GF brunch place called Rustico for a delicious, GF breakfast.

Two stars for rustic ambience and a delicious spinach rosemary tart. No additional stars due to indifferent service, a flavorless and overly dense quinoa loaf, and lack of a rest room. We had enjoyed our online order at Christmas, which comes from the bakery in Queens, but this quaint rowhouse failed to deliver.

I’ve been following this company on Facebook for a while now and finally took the plunge to order some bagels. They sounded incredible and it’s been so long since I had a good bagel I decided to splurge and spend the $ 30 for 6 bagels to have them shipped to me.
I was SO excited when the box arrived. I dove right in and toasted up a cinnamon raisin bagel. Oh my gawd. It’s DISGUSTING. I mean not just bad, but really, really bad. So bad I threw them all away. Even my husband bit into it and said it tasted like plastic cardboard. I tried the plain bagels too and it was the same nasty flavor. We both brushed our teeth immediately and several hours later were complaining that the plastic-​y cardboard taste was still in our mouth.
I’m not vegan, just Celiac so maybe that is the reason. Maybe if they were made with eggs and dairy it would be better but man, I will not be buying these again. Blech.

I have been gluten, dairy and soy free for four years. It was a breath of fresh air to walk in and pick whatever I wanted from the bakery case without a million questions! Driving three hours to get here, I tried a number of things. The chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting is the best GF/​DF/​SF cupcake I’ve ever had. I cannot get over them, 24 hours later.
The cookies were okay, the quinoa bread was a bit chewy for me. But that cupcake… goodness.

I was stoked when this place opened up in my neighborhood, but then couldn’t figure out when they were ever open. It seemed like they were always closed when I tried to go.
When I finally did get a chance to try it out I was super disappointed. I really wanted to support a GF bakery in my neighborhood, especially one with a cool, rustic and adorable vibe.
Unfortunately, JW won’t be my GF bakery of choice The baked goods are incredibly overpriced and of the five different items I chose, they have that classic «you can tell it’s gluten-​free because it tastes like tasteless chewy cardboard.» The bread was pretty gross. I took bites of all my items and tossed them.
In terms of the service, the girl behind the counter looked uninterested in a pretentious sort of way.

As Bestie and I were wandering through the East Village, we were easily lured into Jennifer’s Way Bakery with the intention of browsing, no biting. As the door swayed open, the aromas of freshly baked bread and oats took us to a heavenly and divine place.
A very small and simple selection showcased, indeed. However, the raspberry thumbprint cookies looked so good that Bestie and I had to get one each.
As the wrapped cookie was placed in the palm of my hand, I was so excited to feel radiating WARMTH! This was the BEST thumbprint I have ever had. The mildly sweet oaty cookie paired so perfectly with the warm, rich raspberry jam.
I would love to come back and try their pumpkin chocolate chip cookie… and more thumbprints of course!
