The girl in this store was so nice to me. She fixed my glasses for free which I bought from another store.

The legs on my glasses got messed up while playing basketball. I came here to get it fixed. In less than two minutes, they gave it back to me, like new, free of charge. I was surprised because I didn’t even buy the glasses here.
Service is definitely on point here. It’s the intangibles like care, professionalism, and attention to detail that set Devonshire apart. Worth the extra.

We had a problem with our son’s first pair of glasses, but Devonshire worked hard to fix it. John and his staff clearly care very much about their work.

The staff at Devonshire Optical believe in SERVICE. I was afraid going to a small, neighborhood place would mean I would have fewer frames to choose from and pay much more. The prices were cheaper than the last place I went. The selection was great. But what was really impressive was the service Angelique and LeeAnne gave me. They sent my lenses back to be remade until they were perfect. They answered every question. They helped me go from «mom glasses» to the 21^st century. I can’t say enough good things about them. Going back to get my third pair next week. Bought sunglasses last week.

We had to beg to be helped. We waited glumly in uncomfortable chairs while several batches of other customers needed to try on every frame in the store and ask a lot of questions about their feelings. The «help» we got was staff dumping a pile of frames out in front of my son and expecting him to «see something he liked.» We settled on extremely expensive frames, and they broke almost immediately. We brought them back to have them repaired and the owner cheerfully charged us another $ 150. There are so many other places to buy glasses in New York. Save yourself the frustration of this shop.

Love this store and wish I needed to buy glasses more often. The frames are gorgeous and the most variety I have ever found in NYC. That is saying a lot. John and his staff are lovely and accommodating. Great service and stellar products. Lovely setting too.
Excellent business to deal with.

I broke one of the temples on my eyeglasses but, after numerous phone calls discovered that virtually no opticians will fix a broken frame anymore. The only option is to buy whole new glasses! Aargh!!! Then, after an internet search, I found Devonshire, my very lucky day!!! I arrived at 11:00am and had a lovely discussion with Hira, a lovely associate who assured me that they would do their best! John, the owner, arrived a few minutes, quickly replaced the missing temple, and I was done in 15 minutes. No Charge!!! It’s a lovely store, lovely collection of frames, reasonably priced and lovely people. I will be going back and I recommend them enthusiastically !!!

Lost a screw on my glasses today. Randomly popped into Devonshire. Not only was the staff friendly and nice, they fixed my glasses and replaced the screw in 3 minutes. No charge! The glasses looked pricey, but there’s a great selection there so if you’re in the neighborhood, check ‘em out. Also there’s a deal on Unilocal to save $ 50 bucks on a new pair if you buy one.

Walked in to get my glasses arm repaired. No questions asked (I didn’t even buy it from there) they took it in and screwed it in free of charge and in less than 2 minutes.

They repaired my broken frames for free! Awesome.

After 2 years, they are still TOP-​NOTCH in SERVICE.
That feat for a restaurant would be rare but not unheard of.
That feat for a optical place is simply unheard of.
AND they have expanded to across the street (Devonshire Optical Annex) that does only eye exams I believe.
I inquired why they didn’t just expand next door, «because they wouldn’t sell it to us».
PFFT their loss because across the street makes it EVEN MORE VISIBLE anyway.

I came in today FINALLY to fulfill my fresh lens for my glasses after delaying month after month to get it done.
Devonshire even had it ordered FOR ME in anticipation.
These guys are ON POINT. No sugar coating.
Manny got my lens in and out within 10 minutes.
Good thing too because if the lens took all day, I’d be struck by a roadside car for sure as I didn’t bring my contacts.
Or most likely being groping random stranger’s shoulders until I reached safety…
I’m glad I avoided all of that.
The individual service I get from this place is always intimate and NEVER rushed whether you bought your glasses last week, last year or well I don’t know how long you’ve had your glasses for…
I prefer wearing contacts but when I do wear glasses I always remember that this is the place to go.
They can be pricey as mines was quite in the ballpark of… well…let’s not talk about that.
But since I only use one pair, quality is always better.

A nice little optical store where I stopped in to get new nosepads for my glasses. The woman who helped me was very fast and friendly!

As any eyeglasses wearer knows, choosing new frames is no easy feat. It would be like if you decided to buy a shirt that you’re going to wear EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR SEVERAL YEARS. So obviously, you want to choose correctly.
After going to several Lensecrafters and Pearl Visions and being severely let down, I decided to check out this place (based on it’s high Unilocal reviews, of all things!)
It was easily the best glasses-​buying experience of my life. The woman working when I arrived was friendly and attentive, and asked me what I was looking for. I was immediately given several dozen pairs of glasses that were all in the exact style I wanted. I tried on pair after pair after pair, and she continued to offer her honest advice.
It’s important to note how much her HONEST advice helped me. Other stores will simply try to get you to buy whatever, but she seemed genuinely interested in the well being of my face.
They have a wide selection of hip, stylish glasses to choose from and plenty of well lit mirrors to check yourself out in. I even came close to closing time, and a gentleman working at the time stayed a little bit later to help me out.
This place is amazing. The glasses weren’t exactly cheap, but they were all designer frames so it makes sense. It was such a friendly and pleasant experience that I didn’t mind paying a little extra.

I used Devonshire Optical recently to get new lenses put in some very nice frames that I already had. I’ve used them in the past and they were great. This time they were terrible. I had to do 5 frames. They got two right. The others were done incorrectly the first time. Worst of all, they over-​heated one of my Oliver People’s frames putting the lenses in and ruined them. I didn’t know this until a month later when the lenses popped out and I was told by another place that Devonshire fried a key wire that holds them in. I called Devonshire to speak to the owner about getting a refund for the job. I shouldn’t have to pay for a job that ruined my lenses. He never returned my call. I called again. Still no answer.
It’s a shame because they were good. But I would never use them after this.

I went to my regular optometrist because I broke my glasses – a screw that connects the arm to the frame was pulled out. My regular kept the frames for over 3 days and then called to say he couldn’t do anything with them but he could get the frames from the manufacturer for $ 150 – $ 120 less than I paid for the frames less than a year ago. I googled «eyeglass repair nyc» and Devonshire was the first name on the list – BOY AM I GLAD! I spoke to a man on the phone who told me to bring them on over and he would see what he could do or if he’d need to send them out. When i got there, he took 2 minutes to determine that he could replace the screw and that it would take about 30 minutes – and cost me nothing! I told him I needed a case and would buy that from him when I got back. When I got back, he’d fixed them and found a case for me and said, «$ 5 for the case» — a bargain! Then, when I gave him a $ 20 (all I had), he didn’t have change so he said «No charge.» I said, «No way: you just saved me $ 130 – lunch is on me!» and left him the twenty.
I now have a new optometrist! And I was, until this, very happy with my old one. It’s so great to meet someone who really believes in customer service!

After being nagged by a saleswoman at another store to buy some ugly glasses that looked ugly on my face, I decided to try Devonshire Optical.
The service was like night and day — the person I was working with took great care to find glasses that actually looked good on my face, and she turned me away from some of the more expensive brands I had been considering because she found something that looked better and suited my needs.
Since purchasing my glasses a few months ago, I’ve actually gotten compliments from friends and strangers about them. That has never happened before. I actually like wearing glasses now and have started to wear them for more than just driving my car.

I almost hate to write about this amazing shop because they are one of NYC’s best kept secrets. The selfish part of me doesn’t want others to know but I feel that my desire to recognize excellence overshadows my own needs.
I have purchased glasses all over the world and their selection introduced me to international brands that I had never heard of and absolutely love. The staff is so friendly, they remember you and create an experience that you want to duplicate over and over again.

I’m amazed that no one has reviewed this little treasure of an eyeglasses store yet. Tucked away in the chaos on NYUnion Square, this place has a great selection of eyeglasses and very helpful staff that, in my experience, goes well above and beyond typical NYC customer service.
Regardless of who helps you, these people give you their complete attention and time, educated optical information and fair prices.
I keep coming back to this place because they remember who you are and your specific needs, as well as being very speedy with complicated prescription lenses like the ones I require and are always available for optical problem-​solving that goes way beyond the normal advice you get from a big chain eyeglasses company.
