Doodle Doo’s

We’ve been going here for 7 years now, and the owner is lovely, the toy store section well edited and stocked, and the environment has always been perfect to keep my children happy while having their hair cut, from age 15 months to nearly tween. Both my son and daughter love to come here for their haircuts and the little extras they throw in like the movie/​tv show they get to pick, hair glitter, little hair accessories, and the lollipop. Through the parade of stylists we’ve had, there has been a range of meh to excellent. When we get the meh, we accept it and know the hair will grow back. When we get the excellent, I promise myself that I will remember the stylist’s name for the next time (but never do).

I had such an amazing experience today! We went in to get my son’s first haircut (he’s two) and they could not have been more wonderful! He was greeted by name and we got to pick out a chair. We also got to pick a DVD and thank goodness they had Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is his favorite. His stylist (I believe her name is Diane) was so nice and incredibly patient. I warned her that he was probably going to give her a hard time and she took it all in stride. The receptionist was lovely and immediately started blowing bubbles to distract him. Diane was fast and very skilled with his cut. I think it took 10 minutes! He looks great and we’re both happy! I will definitely go back!
The toy store is also amazing! I’m glad he won’t need frequent haircuts or else I’d go broke buying toys! He already loves his train!

Went here today to get my daughter’s ears pierced! Didn’t even know they offered this service, but found out from another mom! The woman who did it, Christina, was great and fast! Definitely recommend!!!

Been waiting 20 minutes so far for my appointment. They are quick to cancel appointments when you are 10 minutes late. How late will they be?

Doodle DON’T!
I don’t often do this but after my experience today I have to write about it. We’ve been to Doodle Doo’s many times before and gotten decent treatment but today was unacceptable. We arrived on time for my 9 year old daughter’s haircut and were told our stylist would be right with us. We waited 20 minutes and no one said a word to us-​no sorry for the wait, or would you like water or here’s some place to sit. I happen to know if you are even 5 minutes late to an appointment at Doodle Doo’s you get a call to say you will be charged a cancellation fee and you’ve forfeited your appointment-​why the double standard? When I asked the receptionist what was going on, she looked at me like I’d asked her the capital of some obscure country then said «oh yeah, the kid in the chair now has a lot of hair». We were getting ready to leave when our stylist finally became available but of course her station was a mess. One nice employee offered us a clean station in the back (but with no TV for kids so why go there in the first place) but our stylist didn’t want to have to move so she quickly (and therefore somewhat sloppily) cleaned up. When I mentioned the wait she just ignored me. We just wanted a trim so she showed me how much she would take off and got to work. Then someone alerted her that her next client was already there and sitting in another chair and she went into overdrive rushing through the cut to make up for lost time. She practically pushed my daughter out of the chair and when I said how about a braid or something she looked at my daughter and said «You wanna a braid?» and when she hesitated she said «she don’t want a braid». Well as the paying customer I wanted that braid but our stylist was clearly done with us. When I went to pay (full price) I got a cursory thanks for your patience and when I started to indicate my annoyance the receptionist just talked over me. I looked at my daughters hair once we got out and it doesn’t look like they did a thing.
BOTTOM LINE: Doodle Doo’s has had a monopoly on the downtown kids haircut business and has now gotten sloppy and rude. And I for one am DOODLE DONE!

We love Lisa. she was patient and quick with her scissors. Another staffer also helped to entertain our little one during the 1^st hair cut adventures. We recommend for 1^st haircut, but it’s pricey.

I LOVE Doodle Doo’s. I’ve been taking my son there since his first hair cut and wouldn’t consider going anywhere else. Lisa is amazing with him and really listens to what we want to do with his hair as well as offers suggestions. Unfortunately, cutting his hair isn’t easy since he cries and carries on about it the ENTIRE time. Lisa is so great and patient with him throughout the whole process. I don’t think many stylists would work so well under those conditions. Dana, the owner, also reassures me he will grow out of this phase. They’ve seen it all!
The staff that tries to help entertain and distract him are great — they blow bubbles and put on his favorite movies. I also love that I can buy him a little something afterwards. They have a great selection of toys and books at every price range. Also, a great stop for birthday presents and the staff is always so helpful in selecting the right gift PLUS they gift wrap for free!
I can’t say enough about how much we love going there!

This place is awesome for a cute kitchy kids haircut. They have fun seats– a boat, taxi, etc and will play kids videos during the haircut to keep your little one occupied. I brought my 14 month old here for her first haircut a few days ago and am quite pleased with the results. Her hair was a total mess so I didn’t have anything specific in mind, just to clean it up.
The place is also a toy store so it was fun to buy her something afterwards for being such a good girl. Sadly, the book I bought makes sounds when you lift the flaps and one of them doesn’t work :(
I took off one star because the hairdressers didn’t really seem to be baby people. There were 2 there and neither of them was particularly friendly. My daughter didn’t fuss at all during her haircut so there was no reason for the hairdresser to be overly soothing or anything but I got the impression that she wouldn’t have handled a fussy baby too well.
On the other hand, the lady in the back at the toystore (possibly the owner of the shop, Jane maybe?) was awesome! She sat and read a book with my daughter and was soooooo sweet. She really knows how to connect with kids and seems genuinely happy to be working there.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place!

Hit or miss. Two weeks and counting, my son’s haircut is still terrible. My daughter’s is boring but serviceable. His, we’ll have to get it cut again this weekend. It’s a lot of money for inconsistent.

I am so thankful that Doodle Doo’s exists!!! I took my 14 month old son for a haircut yesterday and it was such a pleasure. Everybody was extremelly nice to us, helped distract him with bubbles, toys, wheels, and videos of Elmos while Gina gave him a perfect hair cut. He enjoyed it so much. I strongly recommend this place to any parent that is afraid of cutting their kids hair (like I am) because they turn the whole process into actual fun.

I just got my 2.5 year old son’s beautiful hair cut for the first time. Lisa was very patient with me and recognized my hesitation. She suggested a transition haircut that basically neatened things up but kept my son’s beautiful waves and curls intact. She was very good with my boy, also. You can tell she really likes kids. I will definitely be seeing her again when I’m ready to go shorter.
Get ready to pony up for an expensive toy though, as the store is stuffed with irresistible gear.

I was going to leave 4 stars because toys are so overpriced but that wouldn’t be fair to the hair salon part — we love it and never ever take kids anywhere else

Prior to working with Doodle Doo’s, I was a customer and completely loved this place!
I can always find something here for my neices and nephews.
The staff was and still is always welcoming, the stylists are as amazing as they get and specialize in making the little ones feel great about what can sometimes be a scary experience!
Totally LOVE Doodle Doo’s and working with the staff here is just a bonus!

I just tried them for the first time and am impressed! After 2.5 years of botched haircuts by dear mommy (me), it was time to get some professional help! I was nervous as every time he sees the scissors he starts crying… Lisa was fantastic, connected with our son right away, and knew how to get him to follow her directions. She even got him to giggle every time the scissor snapped! The entire experience was great and we will certainly be back!

Update: This place is still fantastic. Even though we didn’t leave as happy after our second time at Doodle Doo’s. We used the same stylist as last time (only 2 months ago), and asked her to give our son the exact same haircut she did before. We even showed her two photographs that were taken after his last haircut. Granted, one was of him wearing a hat, but you could clearly see a full pompadour of curls gushing out from the front of his tiny fedora. I pointed to the curls and said «See how full his pompadour is here? You can see it even with the hat». And then I found her a photo of him without the hat. We reminded her that the last time she cut his hair, they printed out a photograph of John Travolta as Danny Zuko in Grease off of their computer, and she cut it based on that photo. I asked her if she needed to do that again, and she said she didn’t, and she knew what to do. I repeatedly mentioned she should barely touch top at all, just the slightest sliver of a trim. She kept telling me she wouldn’t. But at one point, she confused us by saying that the top cannot be left too long, or it won’t puff up high. That was confusing to us, because the first time we brought him in there, she did leave it longer, and it DID puff up high. Quite perfectly, actually. She kept on snipping, and the next thing we knew, most of his pompadour was gone. She gave him a faux-​hawk instead.
We are really heart broken, because we have a mad love affair with our son’s pompadour. So does the entire neighborhood. He is known for it. Everyone thinks of him as this tiny Elvis. Today he walked around the neighborhood and people kept asking us what happened to his pomp, and they all seem disappointed it’s gone, too. When I look at pictures of him before, just after when he got it cut the last time and that first cut was at its prime, I feel so SO sad. I could cry. I actually have cried over it, and my husband is mad at me for paying for this new cut. We miss his old style SO much. (Various before and after pics posted in my profile).
All that being said: I DID talk to her about it afterwards, and she was SUPER nice. She was apologetic, and told me that next time she would be more careful to take less off the front and top. She was very professional, and very caring, and I think she could tell I was feeling depressed about it. She had a very caring attitude about it, and I was impressed by how professionally she handled our post-​haircut chat. I paid for the cut, because it was not a bad cut. It was actually a good cut! IF we wanted a common faux-​hawk, instead of a more unique pompadour that is more our son’s style. This IS an adorable faux-​hawk. He got a good cut. I just wish it was the cut we wanted and asked for. :(
Fingers crossed for next time! We do plan to go back again. We’re just a bit concerned that perhaps this stylist, as sweet and as great with kids as she is, might be a tad inconsistent. She seemed to eventually understand what we wanted the first time, but not the next. The first time we went in, she didn’t even know what a pompadour was. My husband and I exchanged worried glances, and then he told her maybe we should see if another stylist there did, and go with her. But she surprised and delighted us by printing out a photo of Danny Zuko to work from, and gave us a great full fluffy pomp. But after Saturday, it dawned on us as she started carving away at his gorgeous pomp, that she still doesn’t understand what one is. It isn’t just height down the middle. That’s a faux hawk. That’s not what a pompadour is at all. My husband told me after we left that he suspects that she just really lucked out on the first cut, rather than actually understanding what the cut and style really entails. I’m thinking he might be right. Hopefully next time we will leave with a big glorious pompadour of curls like the last time. We are hoping his hair will grow back in fast. Fingers crossed. :)
A huge shout-​out to their receptionist! I think her name was Jaimie, or something like that? Damn, I wish I was sure about her name. Anyway, she wins the trophy for giving the best customer service I have ever had anywhere, in YEARS. She is the nicest person ever, and so smart when it comes to knowing about products, is SO helpful, and I almost wish she lived in my neighborhood just so I could hang and be her friend. She is FUN! Our son loved her too.
Even with the loss of his gorgeous pompadour, the bottom line is that he still looks very cute, he still got a GOOD cut, he still had a great time there, we still got good customer service, and we will still be back. My husband really wants us to try a different stylist there next time, but we both still very much recommend this stylist and all of the others highly. Despite not being wowed this last time around, this place is STILL the best kiddie salon anywhere, hands down.
