I love this place. has been here since I moved to the city and I come back every so often to check out the sneakers as they usually have interesting and trending kicks that other stores don’t carry.
In fact, my first pair of adidas high tops came from this store (I still use them today cause they always get remarks). They brought in a neon yellow high too that was too amazing to not get. The price was actually cheaper then at Adidas factory.
Last week I came back to find a coat for the winter, they had a 40% lowest price which reduced a $ 250 Superdry coat to $ 60. super warm and happy with my coat! I also found Nautica snow boots here for $ 20 and now I own my first pair of snow boots!
The one thing I would wish they did was take care of the store itself. It’s kind of an eye sore and I do feel like it does not belong in the location compared to the stores around. It looks thrifty which is probably why the low prices as they don’t have to worry on the looks and appealing to people outside.
That said, I’ll be back many more times as long as they keep the cool merchandise rolling in!

Good find and mostly good deals! I found some good cargo shorts for cheap, and my girl and her friends found some good sneakers and heels for a deal too. Definitely worth stoppin’ by every now and then just to see what’s on sale.

Maybe it’s such a disappointment because my tastes have changed since I was a 19 year old, when Eminem was my style icon.
When I was 19, I loved this place. I bought huge t-​shirts, baggy jeans, and cheap timberland boots. On this visit, I didn’t like any of the stuff in there. The customer service was appalling too.
The one thing I had seen online that I liked was a big North Face parka but there were none in stock in the store. When I asked if I could order it and get it delivered to the store, they just grunted at me, and looked at me like I was an alien!
It used to be my favourite clothes store to visit in NYC, but I wont be returning.

The customer service at Dr Jays is horrendous and apparently so is the quality of the items they sell. I received a $ 330 North Face coat from Dr Jays for Christmas that was bought online. I contacted them well within the 30 day return period asking for an exchange because the zipper on my coat was continually separating and their response to me was that they would not exchange worn items. How am I supposed to know that the zipper is broken without wearing it a time or two. All of the tags are still on the coat but they refuse to answer my emails and have only offered me a $ 30 store credit. Why would I buy anything from them again if they are selling defective items that they refuse to exchange. Any sane buyer would avoid this store and shop at Macys, Sports Authority, Dicks Sporting Goods etc etc who stand behind the products they sell and they all sell the same items.

Deserves 0 stars. Worst customer service I have ever seen. I walked in the store to look at the shoes and was the only customer in sight. There were 3 employees staring at me like I had three eyes and none of them said one word. Absolutely uncalled for and embarrassing. I hope this place goes out of business.
I will never step foot in this place again and I wouldnt recommend that anyone else does either.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Worst customer service ever. Had a return that they did not want to take back because I got it in a different location, never experienced that before. It was in pristine condition. Since it was the last day to return and I wouldnt make it to the location I had bought it from in time, I asked the manager to write a note that I came to exchange and they denied me so that I could still return it the next day. The manager did not want to do it.
So he did not want to exchange my purchase and did not want to let the other stores know that he did not want to exchange and left me stuck with my sale forever. Save yourself the headache and go to the Brooklyn locations. Some of the workers there have attitudes but the managers take care of their customers. Both managers and employees in this location are the worst I have ever encountered.

What happened??? Is Dr. Jay’s under new management or is there a new buyer? The customer service is terrible. There are no sales people on the floor and there is a bunch of random merchandise thrown everywhere. I came in here today looking for a gift for a friend based off an item I saw on the website. I asked the woman at the register if I pull it up on my phone, could she locate a store that carries it. I was told that the website and store are completely different and there was nothing she could do. Needless to say… I was very disappointed because I remember shopping there before they scaled back in size. The merchandise and service was much better then.

Buyer beware: You get to pay for their screw ups! Ordered from the website and received wrong item (incorrect size) and it took 4 messages for them to say in effect that the customer is responsible for all return shipping costs – and the initial shipping charge is nonrefundable – even when the error is theirs.

This isn’t about the store, but a company policy. I incorrectly listed my zip code when ordering online, and was waiting and waiting for my order to arrive. I finally checked tracking a few days after I was supposed to have received my package, and saw a note saying I needed to contact the shipper (Dr. Jays). I called their customer service to ask about what happened, which is when I was told I’d listed my zip code wrong and the package was already headed back to the store. I take full responsibility for making a silly mistake in listing my address, but two things bothered me:
1. There were at least two places as I was placing my order that required me to list a phone number next to my shipping and billing addresses. Why wasn’t that number used to contact me when Fed Ex presumably contacted Dr. Jays to confirm the address?
2. Once it’s returned, they refund your money and you have to order all over again. They cannot simply redirect the package. I understand they handle 100s of shipments a day, but seriously? Just correct the address and send it back. What a hassle when all they had to do was call to get a correct zip code.

Love the selection. The prices are a bit out there and the service can be coarse at times, but if you need a cool pair of shoes and you’re in Midtown, you gotta stop by Dr. Jay’s.

I placed my first order with Dr. Jays online this month. I was happy with the delivery time, the price and the quality. The problem was with THE SIZE! I am a full-​figured gal and I was putting together an Amelia Earhart costume for Halloween so ordered the lasrgest mens’ size of leather bomber jacket which was a 3XL. This jacket should have been very roomy based on the size specs online. However, when it arrived it looked like it was sized to fit a chimp. I double checked the size and it was marked 3XL. However, I have tried it on and have had other people try it on and the consensus is that it is actually a woman’s medium!
I wrote to Dr. Jays customer service and was told via a canned e-​mail from «James P.» that I could return it within 30 days IF I used the original packaging (it was sent in a plastic bag that I had to tear to open) and IF I paid for return shipping myself. I was also advised that the original cost of shipping this tiny jacket ($ 15.00) would not be refunded.
Since I had already given the jacket to the toddler next door I chose not to return the item but know that I will never shop here again and will bad-​mouth the business any chance I get.

I LOVE this place! Love the clothes, love the prices. The only thing I do not love is that they completely rennovated the store and now it’s cluttered (no space to move around) and quite unorganized.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Sometime last year, my girlfriend was staying with me from CA and she bought some shoes from this establishment. She tried them on inside my apartment and changed her mind so we tried returning them the next day. First of all, they wouldn’t take it back because she had worn it. Umm. yea. inside my apartment. And I’m sure 10 other women wore it inside your store. We weren’t very happy about this, so I argue with her a little bit — nothing too hostile. My friend decides she’ll just keep em, takes the shoes out the box, and uses the shoes to tap the box closer to the cashier. She said she didn’t need the box. We turn around and leave and she throws the empty box at me! At this point I lose it. Who the f throws a box at their customers???
I will never step foot here again. This is the ghettoest, most unprofessional place I’ve ever been in. I’ll stay as far away from this place unless I’m forced to… which I am… today. for work research (I’m a boys apparel designer). Ugh! =(

When I am looking to lay down some coin on slamming clothes I go to Dr. Jay’s. Been coming to this store for years even when it was back in the old location. Gotta look diesel for the ladies!
Old school urban wear and upscale hip hop gear along with a terrific selection of sneaks at great prices. This newer incarnation of Dr. Jays features the sneakers and footwear on the top floor. The bottom level is stocked to the gills with merchandise crammed into every available space. You name it and they have it — shirts, hoodies, pants, outerwear, headgear, sportswear, watches, accessories and more for both men and woman. I picked up a few hot shirts recently to cover up my mainframe at really affordable prices without killing my bankroll for the evening.
Gotta keep my GTL on-​point with the nice weather coming up. You feel me?

One of my favorite websites and stores for kicks and apparel.
I usually end up finding a pair of rare kicks or two on my visits here. I want to go back to browse through all the items in their downstairs area since I didn’t have much time during my last visit.

The fourth star is for their website rather than their actual store. I’ve been to this one and the one in Astoria, and I never seem to get as good a deal in-​store.
On that note, how much do they order in bulk to pass down these insane sales that they promote? As a bargain shopper extraordinaire, this store almost takes the fun out of the thrill of the search for me.
Best deals and good quality makes Dr. Jays the way to go.

If you need sneakers, come here. Skip their neighbor Foot Locker and just come straight to Dr. Jay’s. Great sneaker selection! Something for everyone.
With that said, I had to remove a star because as much as I love sneakers, I also love clothes. The downstairs is tiny. Actually, it’s a large space but stocked to full-​capacity which gives it the look and feel of a much smaller store. It’s not as brightly-​lit as the upstairs shoe section is. Just to get to the wall racks, you have to push through racks and racks of clothes and risk getting tangled in a hanger.

We always come here whenever we are in town. My BF always scoops up a pair of cheap jeans Under $ 20 for everyday use…
The last time we came here the had everything upstairs, but this time they had a grand opening, huh? We thought they built a new store, but nah it’s the same, except the main level is now all shoes and have to go downstairs to look at other stuff…
BF was disappointed and was out of the store in less than 5 minutes… We’d have to go to Harlem or Brooklyn for the other Dr. Jay’s.

If you’ve never been to Dr. Jay’s, you’re not missing too much. You can find better deals on clothing in the outer boroughs. If you’re not big on authenticity, you can find better deals in many parts of lower Manhattan. But if its sneakers you’re looking for, then you should give this place a look.
The first floor has a section dedicated to fitted hats to the left of the escalators. The rest of the merchandise is located on the second floor. There’s a bag check-​in at the right of the entrance.
The sneaker selection is a bit sparse, especially when compared to the mega Footlocker also located on 34^th. However you will find «rare» sneakers. I’m not talking first edition Space Jams, but if you’re looking for strapped checks you’ll find it here. I even saw a few pair of hi-​top straps.

Everytime I go to NY I have to stop by 2 Dr. Jays! This one and the one in Bronx cause they have the best selections for Nike sneakers. It’s never busy and there is always someone to help out. The place is organized and well stocked. Even if I don’t purchase anything I just love checking out what types of sneakers that is there or on sale.
If your ever in NYC you have to stop at Dr Jays if your a sneaker head!
